So nice to read in the comments there are people who are giving tips and tricks to Darren.
I follow Darren and his buildings about two years now and he always admitted mistakes.Thats what I like,an honest hardworking person with integrity.
And he helps everyone who needs it and as a good captain of a ship,he is leaving the building site as the last person.

A honest man you are Darren, you’re a man that can admit when they’re wrong and improve. The thing about TH-cam is everyone sees your mistakes, but there are good people that watches and point these things out to you not to put you down but to help out. The next new build you do (if you ever do one) you surely won’t make the same mistake twice🙏🏽🙏🏽 love the channel 👏🏽👏🏽

Well done Darren. It’s actually a sign of high intelligence when you admit that you don’t know everything and are willing to learn. With the ever changing regulations a professional like yourself has to keep on top of it and that means learning new things and sometimes stopping doing things you’ve done for years. That can be hard sometimes. The brickwork’s looking good too!

Good that you take on board what you were not aware of, good that someone passed the info on to you and you did it, thats a win win. As you say, you cant know everything. Well done Darren. Stay well.

That’s a great time to do it, imagine discovering they should be in there much later, hats off to you showing mistakes & putting it right! That’s a sign of a pro builder, totally right no one knows it all, it’s mistakes like these that make us better at what we do. Proper job!

Yes as any water flows down the trays you only need a weep vent at the bottom .

  • @SuperLinuxAudioGuru

Darren I wonder if your case could fall under this rule : "Cavity trays should be provided at all interruptions to the cavity (eg window and door openings and air bricks) unless otherwise protected (eg by overhanging eaves)." There is not much height until the wall will be protected by the eaves here. It just seems like the typical overkill that building regs seem to require.

Its over kill there is no need for them in Jersey we make a verge at the end

Also with all this overkill there just happens to be a pre-formed product available. I'm seeing so much stupidity now with the green agenda and U values, I've got to insulate the walls on an extension I'm building, the wall nibs are 900mm each side of a 6 metre sliding door ffs and the room has 3 Velux so there is more heat loss out of the gigantic windows

Hi Darren, dont know if you are aware, you could have bought those trays with the flashing already attached, which would make it easier as you dont have much brickwork above, (weight wise) when you put your flashings in at a later date, be mindful you dont weaken the brickwork ( as in cracking the joints, as you have little weight above to keep it all together) just a heads up mate, the last thing you want is going back over work that you have already done, i couldn't see if you raked out the bed joint 👍

    • @darrenthebuilder

I agree with the trays for the water issue but I would think the trays would make the wall weaker.

Mate your doing a grand job, I'm a youtuber as well and video my day 2 day life and I make hundreds of daily mistakes and although I usually don't make the same mistake twice, I sometimes make new mistakes, but it's Part of being human and we never get it right, we get it as near to perfect as we can, and as long as everyone is in good health and doing what they enjoy and make a living, then who in this world is Mr perfect???
But loving the progress of the new build, also would love to know how is the cowboy build coming along or have u finished that job?
