    Good talk! When you do the A10 Thunderbolt from XFLY I think you'll like it more. It's really fun and easy and with its wing shape it is also much easier to orientate. Just like you I have little time or interest to make a bad flying plane flying good when it takes to much work as there are so many other great flying planes right out of the box.

    Hi again and thanks for your Email via TH-cam. I can't help liking what ya said about rudder. Yank and bank is okay until one wants to finesse an approach from base leg to final and landing. First rc plane was a Balsa and shrink sheet I was building in the 80's with a nitro engine. After weeks of the build I swapped it for a car engine (real size). Then in say 1993 When then mrs was pregnant, I bought the largish powered glider (2500 mm span). 7.2 nicad, 2 channel 28 mhz. ya switched on plane and always had to keep in the air until battery died (Rudder and elevator only channels). So Maiden flight crash was a laugh. Up on a hill so I put tiny trim adjustment coz I could see all the levels on the horizon. Damn it , I freaked out when I learned that flying towards me needed opposite rudder. I tried to stall it out by yanking on elevator but it just looped and nearly hit me. Imagine the pulse rate having to put it in a tree instead of through someones window ahahah. Good thing about RC pilots is that we laugh with and not at pilots. I have ordered a pair of counter rotating 50 mm edfs to add to my collection. Reason is attempt to build a Harrier vtol avoiding torque roll on take off. I know t like a he math to make it launch like a quad and fly like an airplane but wow the mixes are gonna do my head in for the transition ahahhahah.

    Cool plane. I dont fly my f15 64mm alot because im a newer pilot and it disappears certain times of the day. Safe has saved that plane ALOT from loss of orientation. Also it would be cool if you could review some of the big freewing jets like the mig 29 twin 80mm.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. When you get a bit more experience, you'll learn how to feel out what direction you're going....but then there's times that it's still just down-right impossible to tell.
      Here's something to try next time you get disoriented....
      when flying, level out, the best you can...cut throttle to less than half, comfortably above stall speed.
      Pick a direction, up or left or right. Execute slowly. If you see the tip lift, then you can start to feed in a left or right input. this will help you establish your direction. Try you best to make you BETWEEN the sun and the plane...usually easier said than done in these conditions, I realize, but you can work closer to that end and you'll be surprised how huge the impact will be.
      It's all about knowing what direction the plane starts MOVING. You'll usually have it sorted out in a few short seconds that feel like hours!!! ;)
      Give it a try some time, and if you still can't figure it out, SAFE it is.
      P.S. No shame in SAFE - EVER - save the plane!!! Just won't always have SAFE, so start picking up some of these tricks while you can.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC yeah I need to start going to my field late in the day instead of morning. The sun is right in my face in morning and its really not much fun to fly while being blinded. In the afternoon it will put me between the sun and plane. Thanks

    Hi Brian and Meagan (or Megan). As usual a good presentation. I often cheat and record your channel coz if the weather is to crappy to fly here in South Aussie, I can still be entertained. A friendly remark about something that happened with the Bae Hawk crash that ya no doubt figured out anyway. Higher torque roll at hand launch (guessing up near 70,000 rpm using 4s on 3s motor). This SU 27 review is helping me decide about the F-111 I wish to build from scratch (1400 mm span open, 780 fully swept). Hmmm , use my 70 mm 12 blade 1800g thrust or my twin 50 mm 11 blades at 950g thrust each. Always Curious about the Attraction of 6s aircraft. Gee Brian, I looked at the Freewing A6 intruder. 1170 mm span, 80 mm fan, 2250 g weight and over a grand in Australia for like 5 minutes flight time gentle on a 4000 Mah 6s battery. Sorry for the rant but my first modified jet is a Durafly Vampire. Got rid of the 5 blade and popped on an 11 blade disc, took out landing gear and get like 15 minutes of cruising about on 3200 3s or good hard 7 minutes on 4s. My kindest regards to you, camera crew and your family. P.S. I never legally flew full size but my ex father in law had a small airline and when my brother in law and I would fly Freight , he used to let my do circuits from time to time.😉

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and very Cool Stephen! Thanks for sharing! I think this one has a solid power system, but it's a bit heavy for the thrust. I'd like to see these jets at 1:1 or so power to weight to help with battery chewing tendency. I've flown her 3 times now, and noticed that I really need to get that pack BACK to allow for good elevator authority, and I LONG for a freaking rudder!!!!!!! I hate not being able to line up with the runway well. Makes me feel like a BAD pilot ;(

    Hey !! You two are Awesome... I really like the videos you put out. Thanks for sharing.
    Consider setting up a good Aileron/Rudder Mix with a proper Flight Mode Bias !! Essentially, while in a stabilized Landiing Configuration, any commanded Aileron Input provides a corresponding Rudder Input to assist in Line-Up and Roll Axis augmentation... My Flight Modes are all tailored to assist with various corrections of this type... I do this similar thing with my nose wheel steering sensitivity using Expo ! Your Flaperons are WaaaaaayCool also Amigo !! Cheers

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've had good luck mixing in ailerons to rudder like this. Also, another cool way to get some yaw authority, is to make a clear rudder ON the nose gear bogey. I wonder if that would be enough ??? Either way, some rudders make the planes ROLL badly, almost more than ailerons - LOL - and I bet this is why they didn't install them. I still can't help but wonder if that would make this one fly more like I want...especially for landings.

    • @TheBobaroooo

    Thanks your narrative was interesting. Enjoying modifying planes can be a curse because it can eat up a lot of time, so easy to go "over budget" time-wise, lol.
    Also appreciate that you do not attempt to sell more difficult airplanes to beginners or tell pilots they need to fly tail-heavy CG which is a dangerous experiment for beginners let alone more experienced pilots.
    Most channels are pretty good but there are a very few who are more interested in making sales, garnering subscribers and stroking there ego's above all else.

  • @deandagner
    @deandagner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    FINALLY! That thing is sooooo gorgeous. Been waiting for you to review this before I bought one. It looked like a fun jet that I could play around with mixes with. Like flaperons (which you did) but also have the elevators on separate channels as well. That way I could just go wild and try different setups. Also the fact that I could just throw it in my car and go fly somewhere. Honestly for the latter reason I was also thinking about the 50mm Habu. If you had to pick one which would it be and why? This did seem like it flew well. I'm also wondering which of the two is faster?

    • @RaGeRC
      @RaGeRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianPhillipsRC They work well actually and they don't really roll the plane much. You have good yaw control to get the nose pointed where you want. I highly recommend doing it and wiring them is pretty easy as well. The Elevator servo wires run right under so you can just follow those wires. I have a video of it if you would like to see them in action. (Not trying to promote! haha)

      I would contact Horizon Hobby or Spektrum and get to the bottom of it. Do it before you have an accident because of it.
      I have to assume it's intermittent? If so, you could try to find a loose cable, if you wish, but better to send it off for repair, or upgrade to NX8 - don't forget whatever you do, backup your models if at all possible to the Micro SD Card so you can pull them back out into another Tx, if you get a replacement.

      Thanks for being here with us! Good luck with your search! At 12 years old, it's a tough time of life - almost old enough to work, but still have to ask Mom and Dad for help paying for stuff like this. I get it!!! I too was a young man myself, an haven't forgotten that period of my life...but in my case, my Mom had just died of cancer, and my Dad was learning to take care of two young boys all alone...so he was very easy to spend in the hobby shop. This is how we got spoiled with our RC-10's and RC-10T for my brother, but it was also a very difficult time of life, for obvious reasons.
      My suggestion, is to get a job as soon as you can do it, with your parents blessing of course, and start figuring out what you want and how much it's gonna cost. Life comes at you fast, and better start learning how to do it now. I can tell you that you'll never had more "free money" than you will in the next few years of your life...I know, you'll feel like it's not much, but wait till you have a family spending it FOR YOU ;) It's a lot harder than you might realize at this age, but the sooner you learn to make money work for you, the better you'll be. Good luck, and keep learning!
