The Devil's Crown was a BBC television series which dramatised the reigns of three medieval Kings of England: Henry II and his sons Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland. It is also known as La Couronne Du Diable in French.
The series was shown in the United Kingdom in thirteen 55-minute episodes between 30 April and 23 July 1978.
As a very brief explanation...Henry Plantagenet (later King Henry II), sees his opportunity to seize the crown of England and create a kingdom of law and order. The series stars Jane Lapotaire, Christopher Gable, John Duttine amongst others...

I have worked with Brian Cox several times. He is a ‘heartfelt intense fabulous’ actor who commands the stage without trying. A natural so much so that the entire cast became drawn into what ever world it was that we were meant to create, as Brian brings magic to the stage. I get tickets to what ever stage play he stars because I know it will be an enthralling event to remember. 👑Thank you Brian xx
Can you ask Mr. Cox to use his undoubted influence to pressure the BBC to issue this spectacular series on region-free DVD? How is it that France's INA can sell it?

This is really the very best of the BBC Tv Series that I have ever seen.

I’m concerned. Is not only entertaining, but it’s also educational, as it gives you some idea of what the world & the times back then in the royal court were really like. I have a series objection to TH-cam blocking these episodes. Because they are documentary-dramas (Docuramas), TH-cam isn’t just about entertainment, for me at least, it’s also an educational learning tool.
I really do wish that they would leave series and other documentaries & docuramas on in a permanent status. If there’s more than one version of the exact same thing. Observe which one has the best picture quality and sound, leave it on & delete the others if they must (in the interest of saving space, so long as there’s always at least one whole and complete version.

I think that your “Quite Right”, we probably should lobby for it. I think that there are probably enough folks, like ourselves, who would certainly like to see it put back on.
It’s not only entertaining & captures the attention of the viewers, but it’s quite educational and it’s probably the most accurate depiction (to the best of my current knowledge), of what the early “Plantagenet Dynasty”, was probably like, at the time.
I think that they should probably show it to high school students, in high school. Particularly, the ones who show no interest in history, back when I was in high school, I would most certainly have sat up and took notice, if they’d shown it to my class (and I’m quite sure that my classmates would have done the same). I don’t think that there’s really anything in it, that would be inappropriate for high school viewers and its actual history “This really happened”.
You know, I didn’t even know that this BBC History “Docurama”, series (I think that’s what they call it?), existed, until I came across it, one day on TH-cam “The Devil’s Crown, 1978 BBC History Series”, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have ever known about it at all, my own Mother, really liked it too, she said that it was “Very Interesting”.
As far as I’m concerned, TH-cam, has absolutely “No Business”, taking educational series & documentaries, off, unless there is at least one single, free copy, still available on TH-cam (Now, I can see the point, of the fact that, if there are “Too many copies of, the exact same thing”, on TH-cam, that they might have to delete most of them, in the interest of not wasting, necessary space. But just taking it off, when it has become such a favourite of many folks. Please correct me, if I’m wrong, but when a show or series, that is available on TH-cam, is so very well liked, doesn’t that cause, many viewers, to prefer watching TH-cam, much more, than spending so much time on other apps, I would think that it would cause TH-cam’s ratings to go up very high, surely making TH-cam, even more necessary than before? And when something is so well liked & as popular as “The Devil’s Crown 1978 BBC Tv Series”, doesn’t that not only cause viewers to watch TH-cam every more than previously, but moreover, to mention the series on TH-cam, to their friends, family neighbours & acquaintances, which in-turn, causes some of them to go on TH-cam and also watch, not only that series, but also other shows & things, even people who have never heard of TH-cam before, I would think that as a direct result of all of this, it would be an extremely good & would affect TH-cam, in a very positive way (Surely: Isn’t that the entire point of what TH-cam is trying to achieve, in the first place?).
Therefore, to remove such a show or series from TH-cam, that has the ability, to affect TH-cam, in such a very positive way, isn’t that highly detrimental to TH-cam and definitely not, in TH-cam’s own interest (I believe, that’s called, “Working against themselves”?), It makes absolutely, no sense at all, especially not business sense. I would think that, only fools, would do such a thing, is that really what they want their viewers & business investors to think of The TH-cam Company, as a group of complete & utter fools??? I should think that, would be very bad for business.
But in TH-cam’s own actions, that’s most definitely what they’re doing, so what else, am I, as well as others to think?
I took the “Business Education” course, in high school. I even worked in my own village that I lived in, doing odd jobs and yard-work, during that time, while attending high school and it’s no exaggeration at all, for me to say that “I had cornered-the-market”, in my own area, during that time.
I had a reputation as, a very hard worker, who was very conscientious and charged a fair “middle fee”, for my services, while providing, the very best & most thorough work”. I wasn’t at all, grasping or greedy, but both fair & honest.
Example: For mowing lawns, I charge $10.00 for a standard sized yard & $15,00 for a large yard, and I provided my own fuel & lawnmower.
I was so in demand, that I could, only just manage to keep up with the work.
Others, were trying to charge &25.00 for every yard, while using the homeowner’s fuel & lawnmower and there were no takers.
When they asked me, what they were doing wrong, I told them, you’re charging too much, while not providing your own equipment.
They’re reply, “Well on the Television Evening News, they’re saying that $25.00 is the current going rate”. I then replied “Well the Television News people obviously, have their own occupation and definitely aren’t mowing lawns, this summer, so what do they know about it”.
I then gave them all, one very basic, but valuable piece-of-advice, I said “Remember, your services are only worth what you’re charging, to someone, if they can afford & are actually willing to pay that much for them”. In-short “You can charge, whatever you like, after that, it’s then left to the discretion of the buyer, whether to buy or not”, if you charge x amount of dollars, but no one’s willing to pay it, than you’ll end up going home with nothing, because it’s not worth that much to them. It doesn’t necessarily make them, literally wrong, but fundamentally speaking “The customer is always right”, most of all, if they represent the view of the majority of consumers. It’s not necessarily, right, or fair, but unfortunately, it’s how it is.
I think that your idea of lobbying, is the very best & quite possibly, the only effective idea, that might work. I don’t know, exactly how to go about it, so I would, most definitely value your input on that, together with any advice or suggestions you might have.

'WHY WON'T YOU GIVE ME ENGLAND!' is such a hilariously whiny line that I can't help but laugh every time I hear it.
Well in the medieval era, royal Princes were made Earls or Dukes, like they are now, and in this case, Young Henry was made Junior King like they did in France, normally that would mean some position of power, but his father kept refusing. That’s why four of his sons rebelled against him, with their mother’s help.
@@Courtneybenson907 Matthew Strickland's book "Henry the Young King" has a really good exploration of this topic, as well as the expectations of authority and power and balance between fathers/sons at the time! Henry and Henry Jr. was really in a very complex situation. However yes, the prevailing depiction of Henry Jr. over the centuries has been one of a more "frivolous" character, even if it's simplified. The way the actor plays it doesnt help here, he feels very stage child-like (i think it works for the character they're giving him but it's definitely A Lot)

Anyone know where you can buy or download this full series? One episode is no good. Disgraceful of BBC to prevent people watching it if they are not selling it in dvd format, since their financial interests are not affected, which is petty! Very annoying, especially for us BBC licence fee payers! I would happily pay for it on dvd!!

This series is one of my favorites in how goofy it is. Henry Jr. throwing a fit. Henry Sr. yelling at child Richard for No Reason. Eleanor trying to transition the subject by going "sure your boys are hungry for power...but who's hungry... for DINNER" Henry grooming Alys with his emo vent art. It's all goofy but gives me such a feeling of dread at the same time, it perfectly captures what it's like to read about these people in the books lol
I just came to rewatch, and this is the only part that's still up of the twelve part series? Could I ask why, or if there's anywhere else I can watch the whole series?

The BBC decided to complain - about a decade after all 13 episodes were uploaded.
For some perverse reason they allowed episode 4 and a 90 second excerpt from another episode to remain.
Does anyone know how to find the show in it’s entirety, it was recently taken off of TH-cam.
