Sir, there is a stray dog that sits outside my house and the neighbor's house. I and my neighbours give it food. It is a very well behaved dog. But recently it has developed some kind of a serious skin issue where in it scratches itself all the time. It has even started loosing lots of fur in the tail, head area, etc, where ever it is able to scratch. It has started to look very ugly. It also has developed a very bad smell due to the skin problem. It stinks. But we want to care for it and see it recover. It however does not allow us to touch it, though it wags its tail when we call its name or give it food. So medication can only be given in the form of food (mixing it with the food). So what I need to know is... Is the treatment that you have described in this video the same for this dog? Since you did not mention the symptom of a terrible bad stink of the dog. If so, then how can the deworming tablet be given? Can it be given with some food in the morning? Or is there some treatment that needs to be followed in this particular case? The dog is about 7/8 yrs old, and is about 15/20kgs. Thks for your help.

Any dermatological condition needs proper diagnosis before start of the therapy... this is not a one protocol fits all situation... For example fluoroquinolone group of drugs (ofloxacin) are contraindicated in young pups as they may cause cartilage abnormalities, these are generally considered higher tier antibiotics and therefore it is recommended do a proper culture test or atleast start from a lower tier antibiotic first... Steroid administration needs proper care, withdrawal should be in tapering doses and is not advised in cases of demodectic mange... Conditions like atopic dermatitis or fungal infections need a different treatment protocol altogether.... Vet may also advise topical medication depending on the condition... So my sincere request for the vet is not to suggest such generalized protocol, rather focus on case specific diagnosis... otherwise it encourages quackery...
