My best friend saw the American Idiot musical and I thought he'd hate it, but he said it was one of the best shows he'd ever seen! I really need to go and listen to it... 🤘🤘
I used to think like you did about American Idiot because of the title. I completely changed my mind when I finally heard it and listened to the lyrics. It's not about what you probably think it is. Give it a try. "Don't wanna be an American idiot. One nation controlled by the media. Information age of hysteria. It's calling out to idiot America".
Yes, it’s deeper than the title suggests …and if you can’t look yourself in the mirror… This is a great Nation, but it’s okay to admit that as a great Nation we also stumble.
If i remember rightly, the video was filmed in black & white, then the colours were added in. You HAVE to listen to American Idiot. Not just the title track, but the whole album. Blind allegiance is not patriotism.
American Idiot is a great song. I really don't get how anyone could be offended by it or really think it's anti-american. Also, in my opinion, the album as a whole is an absolute masterpiece. 🤟
Never judge book by it's cover BP "Don't wanna be an American idiot" "Don't want a nation under the new media" "And can you hear the sound of hysteria?" "The subliminal mindfuck America"
Pop music goes in waves, and obviously punk was not new when Green Day started or became big... but this 90's blend of pop punk was new, and there was nothing on the radio like this at the time. Green Day, The Offspring, Rancid, etc. gave birth to all of those late 90's early 2000's pop punk bands, like Blink 182, that dominated MTV and the radio. Green Day was very influential in their own right, and are one of the few old school bands still around and helping to carry the banner for rock music today amidst a pop scene that has generally moved away from actual rock& roll, loud guitars, etc. But it will come back someday... rock & roll will never die.
💚Green Day is a great first listen. It hooks you and you want to hear all of their work. American Idiot is not anti American. It is a protest song about the media and its hold over so many peoples' minds.
My 33 y/o daughter has been OBSESSED with GREEN DAY for years!! I accidentally introduced her to St. Jimmy early on and then had to endure hours, days, months, and years, of very LOUD Green Day!! 😂It's all good. I love Green Day too!! 🟢💚🟢
Thank you. When I see her again, I'll have to ask my daughter if she's heard of their new album Saviors. It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of hearing Green Day. My daughter is going to her first Green Day concert pretty soon, too.
I loved this album when it came out when I was a freshman in high school, and as I listened to it over and over and understood the lyrics better, it only grew on me even more.
Do you really believe a patriot is someone who never criticizes or says a negative thing about the behavior of fellow citizens? You can love your country but still think critically regarding human activity (including one's own), be it in gov't/politics, business, legal system, religion, education, sports/entertainment, media or just the individual, couple or family down the street. You have to be able to separate the two. I enjoy your reactions & you seem like a thoughtful, caring person. I hope you'll give this more reflection. Listening to "American Idiot" would not make you a disloyal American. Peace.
In theory, you are correct, but in practice, you're wrong. Your argument simply doesn't apply here. Billy Joe Armstrong is just an attack dog working on behalf of the activist Left, whose 'criticisms' are excessively one sided, very uninformed, and absurdly hyperbolic. You're trying to pitch Billy Joe Armstrong as a strong principled American patriot who's courageously speaking out because no one else would in an effort to better his country. Nothing could be further from the truth. This man is a pacifist and an avowed anarcho-Marxist who *only has bad things to say* about his country for ideological reasons, not strong ethical/moral reasons. He actually doesn't know much American history, nor is he aware of the contemporary Western philosophies the founders were inspired by when establishing the United States in the 1780s-90s. In order to be a patriot, you have to demonstrate a love of- and offer yourself in service to -your nation. Billy Joe does neither. He's just another myopic, uninformed, radicalized, deranged progressive who believes America is always the villain no matter what. You can't be a patriot if you only have bad things to say about your country.
In Canada we had Much Music and they were just as good as MTV for us Canadians until tv as a whole decided to longer play music videos and just repeat the same shows a million times over❕❗

Billie Joe has said that he wrote American Idiiot partially because he didn't want to become one. It isn't slamming others, he's just singing about something that 20 years later is even worse than it was. I hope you do react to American Idiiot. It's a great song and he's got a great message there. I love your reactions and I hope you'll do that one with an open mind.

I hate and love the fact I have never seen these guys in concert. I was supposed to see them cause they played one of my friends 17th birthday party but I got grounded. Years later I used to go meet a friend of mine at a Punk Co-op and like 12-15 times while waiting for her to get ready these guys would come by cause they had friends who lived there too! Never seen them live but I played them all on the Sega Genesis that was there! And let me tell you, Billy Joe is not a good looser lol!

Your daughters will introduce you to new music when they get to be ten y.o. or so! My oldest son was in elementary school in 1989 or 1990 when I noticed one of his classmates wearing a "Green Day" t-shirt. I had no idea and thought it had something to do with ecology! A few short years later, my sons' music was what I listened to much of the time: Blink-182, Sum 41, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Counting Crows... "You Get What You Give" is my favorite song from that era. (Gotta admit I dislike parts of the video, though.) I thought it was incredibly innovative and fresh-sounding music. I still love the early '60s girl groups and the Motown I grew up on. Love all kinds of music - Big Band, pop standards, jazz (especially jazz.) 🙂
Come on BP While you’re vibing on a rock kinda journey. You NEED to react to Shinedown now we’re getting this rock funky. Shinedown are a US band spanning 21 years now. You’ll know there stuff once you play it. They covered simple man in the 90’s and in my opinion Brent’s vocals are insane 👌🏻. This song is a banger though still on my car playlist 🙌🏻 xxx
Ya this is my son's music he lessoned to all these rapper,he like this band he is different remember one time my son was watching him on TV performing on show I watched it he was spitting in the air and touching in his mouth while that was gross lol but for some reason I like this song, he really feels this way some times, he's struggles with mental issues
WELL U were Probably to YOUNG! 🤣 I was BLASTING down the "BACK- Roads" at, Twice the Speed Limit "Listening to DOOKIE" 😉 "American Idiot" came Next! and THAT, Went HARDER! Yes, That's the Timeline!
Great trip down memory lane. I was almost 10 years into punk rock when Green Day exploded onto the pop culture scene with the album Dookie. I loved the production, the sing a long choruses and energy of that album. As for American Idiot, the songs are amazing. I loved that it was a concept album where one song connects to the other. It was even turned into a musical that ended up on Broadway. In addition, as the music fan I know you are I think it would be a disservice to not listen to the whole album once. That being said, at the very least I would love to see you react to the music video, the song that is the Opus called Jesus of Suburbia. The video is close to 12 mins long with all kinds of musical twists and turns. th-cam.com/video/fZFmaMbkUD4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2l_WjHC9whGQlJ2h
I like the Mode are you trying to talk emotions in your brain. Its cool because emotions and sensations are not things rational . Sorry for my bad english
One of my favorite quotes involving Green Day, can't remember who said it, but compared them to The Offspring: "Green Day are punks who make non-punk music, The Offspring are non-punks who make punk music." Both bands have a ton of absolute bangers though. Except "When I Come Around," that song is definitely not a banger.

You could go with Weird Al Yankovic's "Canadian Idiot"
I hate and love the fact I have never seen these guys in concert. I was supposed to see them cause they played one of my friends 17th birthday party but I got grounded. Years later I used to go meet a friend of mine at a Punk Co-op and like 12-15 times while waiting for her to get ready these guys would come by cause they had friends who lived there too! Never seen them live but I played them all on the Sega Genesis that was there! And let me tell you, Billy Joe is not a good looser lol!
Greenday was absolutely huge in the early 90s. Do yourself a favor and check out "She" which is a fantastic pop-punk track.
one of my favorite bands please do Greenday brutal love
YAY i **LUV** that ya will do things that you may have or have already heard before just cuz ya feel like it! THAT totally **ROCKS!!!** Thank YOU **BP**
wow, i never heard this edited version before.
Love how a 3 man group can make a wall of sound. ZZ Topp. Small Town Titans. The Warning.
Good stuff.
This song is about billies (the lead singer) battle with bipolar disorder.
Billie doesn't have bipolar. But yes it's about his struggles with mental health issues. He has a panic disorder.
@@zoeadams2635 I stand corrected.
@@zoeadams2635while questioning his own bi-sexuality.
Green Day rocks! Loved your reaction.
I had a time in my youth wgen i listened to Songs like that .
Have you ever thought of doing a reaction to the Broadway show American Idiot! Its AMAZING!
I'm still mad that they didn't get a Grammy until "American Idiot", when "Dookie" and "Nimrod" were far superior albums
They increased the saturation of color for this video. The contrast is increased a bit too. This was a popular look in videos at the time.
And 50 Cent In Da Club. Still a BANGER!
The lead singer's speaking voice sounds nothing like what you'd expect. It's pretty cool
If you'd like to check out an interesting version of this, DJ Cummerbund mashed it up on the track "BasketFlies".
Try The Living End similar punk style from Australia. You have probably never heard of them but I am sure you will enjoy.
Ref to the movie 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' when the guy threw the water cooler thru the window.
Hope you Had The Time of Your Life is a great one from last episode of Seinfeld series.
WELL U were Probably to YOUNG! 🤣
I was BLASTING down the "BACK- Roads" at, Twice the Speed Limit "Listening to DOOKIE" 😉
"American Idiot" came Next! and THAT, Went HARDER!
Yes, That's the Timeline!
I wish you listened to their new songs too, for example Dilemma
❤❤❤❤❤❤
American Idiot is a very patriotic song!
Congrats on 300k!!
Except "When I Come Around," that song is definitely not a banger.
please react to: "Praise, Abort" by Lindemann He is the lead singer of Rammstein but this is from his solo career.
Green day has a cover of working class hero and the video has people speaking on the darfur conflict. It's interesting
Awesome video.
Should do Simple Plan song Called Perfect
