Another reason why your chainsaw might not be oiling: There are two very small holes in the bar. They're on opposite sides of the bar. When the chain is mounted properly, one of the holes will be located opposite the duct where oil flows from the oil pump. The oil flows out of the duct, through the hole in the bar, and onto the channel / slit of the bar where the chain runs. If the hole in the bar is plugged with a mixture of sawdust and oil -- or if the channel is full of sawdust -- then the oil won't coat the chain. So clean out the hole in the bar and clean the channel of the bar.
After making sure the bar, groove and hole is clean, It was still not delivering oil. Simple fix on mine was that the little hose in the oil tank was flipped up. In other words the hose inside the oil tank was sucking air from the top, not oil from the bottom. Just make sure the hose is pointing down and at the bottom of the tank. Stihl O19T.
Glad I came here, mine was all gunked up cleaned it out real good, and still no oil. Read your comment and mine was sucking air also, now it's working good . Thanks to you both.
4:03 it's not the chain you're going to run through if the oiler doesn't work, you're going to create a bur on the edge of your bar that will keep wearing down the edge, considering the chain is hardened metal and the bar is just mild steel, it's the bar that is going to wear down
Much appreciated! Friend's dad gave him a Stihl MS311 that isn't geting oil to the chain. I'm going to try to solve his problem. You video is a GREAT place to start. Again - thanks.
Took my Greenworks electric chainsaw model 20332 apart and found that the spring that holds the shape of the tube from the oil reservoir up to the pump had slid down so the tube was crimping in 2 spots. Slid the spring back up, oil flows, problem solved. I'm always hesitant about taking things apart, so it took a little courage to remove screws and the clip that holds the sprocket in place - it's like a key chain ring. You'll need something very pointy to separate it and turn it out to remove. Also, don't forget to hook the 2nd tube from the pump to the feeder whole back up when putting the housing back together.
Thank you! I have to share this! Going to turn our local Stihl dealer in to manufacturer. When I got the saw back from a hard starting issue it was still hard starting & the chain wasn't getting oil!
Be sure to clean the groove in the bar where the chain runs. Clean it out really good. Must be free of debris if it's going to oil properly 🙂 And remember, that God loves you ! 🙂
Good advice on oil delivery. I just had mine serviced at a certified Stihl dealer, not real happy with the product and service I received, tipped the guy 25 bucks, nice guy but old behaviors hard to get rid of, like blowing compressed air when finished with the mechanics, giving the client a clean machine after spending 200 bucks + tip. The guy was my age, 63 , you would think us old folks would be better at these typical issues. The exception is definitely not the rule!
You also should unlock the brake before removing the cover if the band is in the cover. If you don't do that you will have a heck of a time getting the cover back on again with the brake set.
Rotary tool and port the oiler holes on the bar. May just have to service your chainsaw more frequently. I run a chainsaw and I've watched hours of video on TH-cam for proper care and maintenance I recommend it. A lot of folks aren't warming up their two-cycle motors especially chainsaws enough it's causing piston damage also they're not mixing properly 50 to 1 is not really a good mix that's a good EPA recommendation. You're better off burning a little smoke out of your two-cycle like a 33 to 1 mix. I'm always taking my chainsaw apart and keeping it clean making sure the oilers are cleared out. Checking the spark plug. There's a proper way to run them store them maintain them all of that.
Oil tank or hose is probably either leaking (not seated properly anymore) or the hose has cracks in it. Best way to tell if either of those are the problem is fill up with oil and wait for the engine to get a little bit warm then cut it off and then see if a lot of the oil in the tank get about empty with the saw just sitting. If the oil comes out that’s the issue
If you're running an older Stihl chainsaw, on the bottom of the saw there is a round plug with a fitting for a screwdriver, this is your oil adjustment plug. Use a screwdriver to adjust how much oil it's using. There is a video on TH-cam somewhere of a guy who show's you how to do it.
Why would you wan to? Bar oil is very inexpensive, especially when you consider what it will cost you to replace the bar and chain because you wanted to save a dime or nickel.
You didn't mention to check your bar oiling holes on eather side of bar, always make sure they are not blocked As this is often the course of chain and bar not receiving the lube.

I had that problem with the fuel pick up on a Stihl blower.

Great video, really informative. Thank you for taking the time to make it. Greetings from Greece
Fours years out, and still helpful! Thanks - Another LIKE for your video!
You didn't consider that the bar is clogged also; in which case, you still won't get any flow to the chain.
Much appreciated! Friend's dad gave him a Stihl MS311 that isn't geting oil to the chain. I'm going to try to solve his problem. You video is a GREAT place to start. Again - thanks.
What was the problem mine is like bran new and and it spits almost no oil
Thanks! This is why I love TH-cam 😁 uncruded and oiled up like a beaut
lol
Thank for the video dude, was helpful with a different brand of chainsaw, but helped a lot !

Good morning from Cape Cod ⛵ thanks dude I'm going to go and assess my chainsaw and hopefully it starts oiling again ✌️🇺🇲
So calm, explained more. Dudes like you be good 👍 thank you 🤙🤙
Great video !! Thanks . I run 3 diff size stihls and always push them too hard with clogged oiler . I will def make sure to service mine more 👨🏻👍🏼

Thanks for sharing. You didn’t mention the holes on the bar itself though, these need to be cleared also!
What if you check and clean everything but still no oil coming?
So, you were just out of chain oil, right? That's all I saw.
😂🤣
That's all i got from the video lol
Without bar oil running properly, you will also burn up your chainsaws bar, causing your chain to get sloppy in the channel.
This video helped me! Thank you.
Great man is the oil feeder gravity fed or is there any type of mechanical pump
You didn't show how to adjust the oiler . Mine has oil and it's free off gunk. But still no oil.
What about cleaning your bar out?the oiler hole and the grooves,oh and get the burrs off too while it's off and flip that sucker too.be safe.
Ha! Love it. Thanks man
more detail for not oiling chainsaw and is the petrol is correct way to wash.
Good question. I was wondering the same. Too bad there are no answers.
Dude you need to keep the cam on the spot where the oil comes out!
Much appreciate the help
Does it matter if the bar is upside down
Great film thanks
Thanks for vital info location and adjustment. Also flawed video footage.
Good tips!...thanks

Tipping for doing a poor job is crazy
Thank you sir!
So you just have to keep topping up the oil! Ok, thanks for that useful tip.
good info. Noticed in your video you are overdue to change your drive sprocket. Need replacing
How can you tell? Mine’s started rattling a bit.
I have the same saw it's coming out somewhere else and no idea why -.- I probably have to place the whole case

Czy jak idzie pół zbiornika oleju na zbiornik paliwa to źle czy może tak być??
Get some compressed air and clean that saw, also change your drive sprocket.
Great you take the Time 2 show Folk's this Area with Pulp build up Requiring Regular Maintenance , Tooth Brush the SucKer ". .
Or compressed air the sucker!
Thanks for posting, an easy fix but something I didn't know until being shown. Full working order again ✊
My small hole in bar quickly close with wood and dust and oil is not flow along chain it just came down.... What is its solution

0:61 “these two nuts!” 🤣😂
Never mentioned the other obvious things to check ie the bar oil holes and bar track being full of gunk !
so, what if i have the opposite problem and it dumps way too much oil out

Kaun sa oil dalta hai
My ms 390 saw won’t distribute oil after all above cleaning etc , anyone have any ideas what else it could be?
Your oil pump could be bad.
Check clutch is seated on notch for worm gear if applicable. Replace worm gear and oil line 4:22
Can I use honey mixed with water for chainsaw bar lubrification ?
🤔
Why would you wan to? Bar oil is very inexpensive, especially when you consider what it will cost you to replace the bar and chain because you wanted to save a dime or nickel.
💩😂🤣😂
Also mix in a little silica sand to promote the lubrification process.
@@shawnwise2458 I heard gorilla glue does the trick
Nice vid 😊👍
What model?
Thank you.
Sir Bering breke dram 038
Thanks for posting that video
I've done that and it didn't help.... what do I do next?
U can also clean ur bar.. theirs 2 holes were the oil goes Into. Make sure their clean and not plugged.
Good lubricant
Looks like needs crank sprocket
I was expecting to learn about FIXING the Oiler, not a class in cleanliness.
Me too
Seriously don't understand the purpose of this video. Sorry, you shouldn't own a chainsaw if you didn't do this before looking for videos.
First comment I guess?
Thanks for watching!
You didn't mention to check your bar oiling holes on eather side of bar, always make sure they are not blocked As this is often the course of chain and bar not receiving the lube.
