Have you all heard the “cello cello cello“ story? They wanted to hire a cello player to play that part… But they were still so new and so broke that kid Lambert wouldn’t let him do it, so… They just simply saying the words “cello, cello, cello, cello“ Clever, and hilarious.
The rock and roll circus version is my favorite performance of all time…but I think the bass playing here is as good or better. Think of all the subtle tweaks that genius must have thought of given the two months between R&R C and LaL!
You're really great, even the way you stand reminds me of the Ox. I wonder if you're familiar with the bass line from the movie version of Acid Queen. I'm pretty sure it's Entwistle, but I've never seen anyone cover it or been able to find tabs or a tutorial of it. Thanks for sharing these!
Delicious tone and ease of traversing this early Who anchor. You’re a remedy and inspiration to current and future bassists man. Thank you. Keep playing, teaching and sharing.
Did you learn this all by ear, or were you able to find a transcription? I’ve had no luck on my search for any decent transcriptions or tabs when it comes to their live performances
I love A Quick One. I have to admit I much prefer the version from the Stones' Rock & Roll Circus (68). I suppose because it was the first live version I had heard (on the Kids Are Alright film/soundtrack).
Discovering your channel today has put a smile on my face! After 40 years of playing only guitar, I’m taking up bass (mine arrives tomorrow) and The Ox is the first bassist I want to study - and here you are, showing us the way: the tone, the stance, the techniques, the stoicism- all uncannily accurate! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much Dan! I really appreciate it! The Ox is the greatest of all time, his bass lines are awesome but not too difficult to learn. Keep it up!
@@coxbassman968 you’re welcome and I look forward to watching and listening to you some more. I first played my (much older) brothers 7” single of “My Generation” when I was a toddler, it blew my mind and I’ve never stopped loving that sound since! BTW - no doubt you already know of this- I’ve just visited this site, what a joy! www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/bass.html
i always wondered why on 'YOUNG MAN BLUES' from 'LEEDS' the bass sound is so different from the rest of the album i wondered if maybe he played a different bass for that tune or whatever but having watched this i know now he simply backed the treble all the way off on that one like he did on the first section of this tune,
@@coxbassman968 ENTWISTLE was also asked about using fingers vs. using a pick and he said it often just came down to what he felt like using at the moment. he sometimes did entire gigs with a pick which you can actually see in alot of old WHO footage.
Thanks! Yes you're right, it's a WIIO. I bought it years ago because they said it was perfect for Who's stuff. Actually it is only an overdrive pedal and I'm not very satisfied with it.. It cuts off the treble and it has too much overdrive. It's great with a guitar
@@coxbassman968 I can't say anything about WIIO, since I didn't have it in use, but I have a CB30 and a Fender Princeton Reverb, and once I decided to buy a VOX AC15HW, so, comparing them head-on, I liked the sound of my Princeton with a pedal that emulates VOX more than the real VOX. 😄
That was pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourself. John Entwistle would throw up in your face if he met you. Haha.. Only kidding. You're great . His Honorable Big Johnny Twinkle approves.
entwistle lives in your body
Your playing is a great way to understand the brilliance of Johns playing and a great lesson to thanks
Thank you!
Yes. Fascinating to watch.
Really really good, sheesh!
Great bass player 👌👍
Great cover of an under appreciated song, especially when the "you are forgiven" part of the song kicks off.

Excellent cover! Have you considered covering the rolling stones rock and roll circus version?
My fav too!!

Thanks! I appreciate that! Sadly I'm really busy now but don't worry, I'll upload something soon 💪
Great Bass cover! You as Entwistle! from Japan
Thank you man! Keep on rockin

I agree! They had just come off the road and blew the room away.

Exactly! He backed the treble also in Heaven and Hell, Can't Explain, Fortune Teller and also in Overture (Tommy's section)

Boaaaa manoooo
The bassline from the we’ll soon be home section was stolen right from the beach boys California girls
Rotosound 66?
Yep
Is there a bass tab for this song?
What kind of amp are you using?
I'm playing through a vt bass pedal, straight into the USB audio interface
Why is Tony Iommi playing a right handed bass?
What strings do you use?
Rotosound Swing 66 standard gauge
Hey bro ¿Tabs???? Please man
Sorry I learned it by ear
