    After a few mods for adventure riding, the 650r is awesome its not to heavy. You can throw it through single track or wide open in the desert. It can take me anywhere especially on the dirt

    I bought my 2001 XR650R new.
    I still have it.
    I've put many miles on it, still runs like new.
    The bike will not die.

    Than you Jimmy for speaking the truth on the 690. I've owned several XRR's and a 690 enduro. The 690 just does not handle like an offroad bike, it is very stiff in the chassis (trellis frame) and long feeling. It simply does not handle like an offroad bike.

    Picked up my 2000 650R a week ago. in the process of giving her the love she deserves (carb rejet and rebuild, wheel bearings, oil change, air filter). Just amazed that the previous owner had a 132 main jet when its supposed to be 175 around here......smh

      @MrBraxsa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahah wow didn't you picked mine!? I can say the exact same thing.
      I picked a 00 XRR on Dec. The main jet was also 135 and the bike was trashed. Now it looks way better.

    I agree, a wr 450f and exc 500 are the kings when it comes to light handling and zippy 450 style power with solid suspention. The husaburg 570 has the King Kong motor but parts are expensive and rare.
    But for on the cheap, you can’t beat a xr 650r if your looking at doing more open riding and street riding. The wr, exc and 570 are better dirt bikes but cost more and more to maintain!
    I just came from a wr 450f to a xr 650r, wish me luck haha

      Paul Brinston I love my WR450F supermoto and agree if I could only have one bike, it would be a KTM 500. But it is in no way, shape or form, even remotely close to the reliability of an XR650R. You will do more top ends, valves are a pain in the ass to change, but it’s better than the crf450l by a country mile

    I have the 02 XR650R. Bob Bell from Precision Concepts set up my suspension. Pro Circuit T4 exhaust , Baja Designs Street legal kit, Taller gearing , plated and insured. I also have a 2008 KTM 530 EXC Six Days Edition with all the mods. Great bike , but will chose the big red pig . Way more reliable , more comfortable. Don't get me wrong , I don't want to give up on the KTM, but also have a Honda CRF 450R that rips. When the Zombies come for me , my bike of choice to bring along or escape on will be the XR650R

    LoL, just bumped onto this video, I've watched some bermcannon vids on the CRF450L and loved the XR650R content as well, It's been a while since my last XR650R(I bought Martin's T1 XR650R "Bodacious", did 3 up and back T1s on that bike) , must of been 7 years ago, but sold it for a KTM 530, now I'm looking at used bikes looking for a XR650R that I can Super moto(just cause the XR650Rs Rock). I call them BRP, but it's an affectionate term, I also had a 7 gal tank, so it fit, lol, and I still had to pack extra fuel!
    Haven't seen a FE570 with less than 15k miles for years, I missed the boat there.
    Thanks for the content!!

    I picked up a bone stock 2000 at Lincoln Ne. Harley Davison a few years back for $1500.00 .
    A 70yr old man traded it in on a Harley. He lost the MSO. I titled/licensed it in Missouri thru an”abandoned title” route! Uncorked it, then my 13 yr old daughter could start it!! Threw a set of SuMo wheels on it for $500, Sold it for $4500 last year! Should of kept that sucker!!

    if you're physically fit and know how to ride, the XR650R is so much more fun than being someone who isn't or on a smaller bike. Been riding one since 2001 and it feels good to outride someone on a newer fancier
    bike

    For someone who had their heart set on a husky 701, the review kinda took the wind out my sails, but I am open minded to take it onboard and can assure you I wasn't one of the nasty commenters. I am very curious about jimmys comment about the KTM 500. This is a bike I've considered, but was put off by the supposedly shorter service intervals. Is he maybe suggesting the intervals aren't as bad as what's advertised? I can probably handle reasonably frequent oil changes, but not interested in a bike where I have to rebuild the engine every couple of hundred hours or less.

    • @bermcannonk
      @bermcannonk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s exactly what jimmy was referring to. You can always contact him on his show on Tuesday nights 7pm on Facebook. I hear good things about the ktm500. I will add that the 701 is a good bike if you’re doing a lot of pavement or roads but just recently on my last trip I was in area where the trails were really tight and two guys on 701’s we’re having a very difficult time. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻

      I was just on a Dual Sport ride in Colorado where my buddy and I passed 4 guys on KTM 690s that were stuck and not able to continue up a techical jeep road that we were on. We passed them, made it through and never saw them again. Now if I had my 300 it was have been even more fun. Those guys on the 690s just had the wrong tool for the job. I agree they are great on the road and some two track but if it gets even slightly technical...trouble unless you have extremely good skills. Even then not fun. Also, I know a guy in So Cal with over 60K miles on a KTM 500 no issues. Change the oil with Shell Rotela every 1000K miles or so.

    Husky 701 owner here.
    1, it is not as good as my KTM 520sx was off road.
    2, it has quite good enough range.
    3, the 701 does nothing perfectly but everything, very well.
    4, the fuel in the rear doesn't bother me whatsoever.
    5, I would never want to drive on a paved road for 100 miles.
    Now, I've ridden KLR's and I have a good bit of experience with off road riding, not street. KLR's are not, in my opinion, remotely close to XR's. I have some time on a buddy's XR 600 back in the late 1990's. Great bike, just as most people point out, brakes are balls, bars are balls, clutch is wtf and boy is that a fun bike to start when cold at high altitude...
    I'm not saying the Husky 701 is the best bike in the world, far from it, I'm just saying it is a really practical spork. It isn't a spoon, it isn't a fork, but damn, does it get cake and cereal like a boss, but useless in soup.
    Does the Husky cost more? Sure. But look at all you get with it. I am a KTM fanboi, for sure, but when I had my YZ400F when they first came out, and got rid of it for the KTM 520SX, those savings between them? Shot to hell between sprocket, chain, bars, pegs, all the things... KTM makes a great bike, dunno why people hate on them. I've owned Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, and obviously KTM.
    Mind you, I am thinking about getting rid of my bike at the end of the summer for a KTM 1090 and getting a pure dirt bike 2 stroke 300. The reason I chose the 701, was just for it to be a transition bike to street side of things. I'd never look at this bike as a means to compete with a 300/520 (just using my experience with these in the early 2000's), as a total replacement. But as far as fireroads and smaller "razor/4wheeler" size trails? Heaven.

      @@bermcannonk btw, I get your getting flamed thing, I posted a quick basic review of a truck I bought and how the MPG was way better than the tacoma I had. Flaaaaaaaamed, non stop. WOW CAN'T AFFORD A TANK OF GAS?! No, I was just pointing out that with a small tank and minimal mgp, I'd be hamstrung by the range. Nobody cared, got a gob of comments about how I was stupid, an idiot, had a 60,000$ truck but can't afford a tank of gas, blah blah blah.

    I love XR650R's. Ive had two over the years. I moved to New Zealand 3yrs ago. Now I cant get one (plated) for under 8000NZD$ , which I find a ridiculous price. As much i I love them I might have to go for something similar but not quite as expensive. I do more street and green lanes rather than rougher terrain . i need the aggressive low down grunt the XR has or I will get bored. Appreciate suggestions please.
