- Lithium, Hydrogen, Solid-State: Which Will Shape the Future of EVs? • Video
What makes an EV truly stand out from the crowd? One of the key factors is the motor, which converts electrical energy into mechanical power and drives the wheels. There are many types of motors available for EVs, such as induction motors, permanent magnet motors, switched reluctance motors, and more.
Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, such as efficiency, cost, weight, size, and performance. However, there is one motor that might be the most impressive one yet: the magnet-free EV motor developed by ZF.
Join us as we discuss ZF’s magnet-free electric motor.

Isnt that exactly how the first loudspeakers worked before there were magnets? 😂
as I remember the speaker electromagnet was also used a a choke along with capacitors to provide a clean B+ power
😂🤣😂😅🤓
what a news! Induction motors without magnets or synchronous machines with electromagnetic excitation were invented a long time ago and were considered as classics until they were replaced by EM with PMs, now we are returning to machines with electromagnetic excitation and consider it something new! Are you seriously!?
Magnet free induction motors have been around for DECADES. Those motors are used in washing machines, refrigerators, furnace blowers, etc.
They are bulky for the power they output so the trick is to make the.motors smaller and more powerful for electric vehicles.
That is true. To generate strong enough magnetic field, the current and coil turns must be crazily large. It is very difficult to make a powerful motor campact without permanent magnet, unless you use superconductor. So I doubt the video is real.
@@jerryli5555 search "ZF makes magnet-free electric motor uniquely compact and competitive" and read ZFs press release. It's real.
Those are squirrel cage ac induction motors though. This is really just a dc motors with a rotating inductor to excite the rotor instead of using brushes or slip rings. The inductor receiver has a built in rectifier to convert the AC induction current into DC. I'd imagine the power density of these motors will be great since you are able to generate flux from both the rotor and stator and since it's using DC power you don't have to worry about skin affect so you can run very thick wire to minimize resistance
Just repeated the same simple core concept at least six times ....
Yep. Really annoying.
I need the core concept repeated because I am slow;
A slick marketing video that explains nothing about the inner workings.
The same few buzzwords over & over featuring a few TOTALLY unrelated, though nifty animations. & all without showing or even attempting to explain how it actually functions. The future of clickbait & fake news, today.
A step in the right direction!!! The industry is getting greener. Imagine back to a time when Lemuria flourished, and in that age the craft floated or rather operated under magnetic levitation, and the skies were 100% Blue!!! with no pollutants in it!!!
So the rest of the industry is catching up to what Tesla announced last year.
You mean, what Nikola Tesla did a century ago
Clickbait + endless information-less blablabla + mostly stock footage having noting to do with the title ... as an increasing number of bullshit YT videos, nowadays.
Thing is: ANYONE who know a bit about electric motors, is aware of brushed, brushless, synchronous etc. variants.
ANYONE who is SHOCKED by such a development is either a babbling journalist or ... clueless.
The only 3 questions of interests about any new development in this sectors:
*) Did they manage to build the motor without a fallback to a brushed rotor (which would mean losses and extra maintentance)
*) What's the "power density" = output per weight?
*) what's the efficiency?!? brushed ones did >93% for ages
---> claiming "50% CO2 reduction" here is utter nonsense ANYWAY. STOP ANY TITLE naming some CO2-bullshit!!!!
Exactly. I don't think anyone wants to spend a bunch of time refuting stuff. It's WAY too easy to make shit up and transmit it these days. But it still makes sense to put some correct info out there.
I designed one motor like this, before 4~5 years ago,my intention is to remove the brush commutator mechanism...
So they (re)discovered the "induction motor" ?????? LOL!
From Wiki:" The first AC commutator-free polyphase induction motors were independently invented by Galileo Ferraris and Nikola Tesla, a working motor model having been demonstrated by the former in 1885 and by the latter in 1887. Tesla applied for US patents in October and November 1887 and was granted some of these patents in May 1888. "
Synchronize reluctance motors doesn't use magnets. You can add permanent magnets to them to increase their performance but they would work without magnets
Induction motors don't have magnets either. Neither do motors that use external excitation rotors and their brush-less counterpart which use induction-coupled external excitation. Magnet-free electric motors have been around for a very long time, just not as sophisticated as some of them are today.
@@teardowndan5364 Synchronize reluctance motor is more efficient compared to induction motors. Share the same core principles but an upgrade nonetheless
induction motors are not new, no one is shocked unless there's bad insulation.
I wonder if magnet free technology can be built into Axial motors. Thus developing extremely small powerful inductive magnet free motors.
this sounds like a rehashed press release, but with more nonsense and buzz words.
Because it is. th-cam.com/video/fBnyzqFpliY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AXyWj9biYDfDmBP5
😂😂😂
Exactly, the viewer's time is wasted. Only a few seconds of actual information.
At last, a script written in good English.
😯 Cool! 🔥🔥
It is not contactless. Looks at 7:00 ,it has.
When can get lightweight powerful motors, powerful lightweight batteries and ultralight airframes with reliable fast chargers,
We will leave cars behind us and fly …
Strong permanent magnet motors use lesser battery power just as a woofer with very strong magnet has a harder beat
The correct title should be "Permanent Magnet Free" Electro magnets are still magnets
Ironic they've gone from magnet free motors to permanent magnet motors to magnet free in just one generation. See, the ancients did know what they were doing 😁
Independently excited generators have been used since forever, so it makes sense to try it in a motor.
Wireless transmitting of the excitation current will be prone to interference so you may not win as much as you think, as you may have to put a lot of effort and cost into keeping it interference free.
The path to success is seldom a straight line but rather a zigzag full of potholes.
Yes I'm telling about this sir
Whether talking about solution for solenoid actuator assembly of motors and delroto were gone wrong with some other scn
Material will soon be readily available from space mining and not from earth mining leaving a zero eco footprint...
Shocks the industri. Shock is a word everybody abuse in here.
Does not say about amount of torque they produce...
I like Gas.
Means permanent magnet free.
Se puede hacer coches eléctricos sin baterias y también coches de aire comprimido y de vapor de combustión interna estos funcionan solo con agua del grifo sin más sin electrolisis por que eso es hidrógeno yo digo que funcionan solo con agua del grifo
Click bait neodymium is mined in west Australia by Lynas exported to china to refine.
No shortage, is mined in Australia's strict environmental conditions. No damage.
Australia is one of the largest suppliers of diffused minerals.
( rear earths ).
Someone ramping their share price BS
Its not that new and there are other companies already producing similar motors.
its Zed F. as in the Gearbox and transmissions manufaturer.
Will it come to market or in theory???
It's the Non Bio of electric motors! The Greener thinkers will go for it! Motorist want to get from "A" to "B" by the the most appropriate means that suits their means. Me, I take my limo to the airport, fly my private jet to Nice A'port. Transfer to my private helicopter to flight deck helipad of my private Superyacht, Moored in Monaco harb but put to sea to facilitate landing. Drive golf buggy to the prow deck to drink cocktails as the sun goes down! One can't be lat e for the important things in life
Coming to market is similar to mating elephants, much hollering, screaming and noise and most importantly done at a high level.
Does Greener mean More Cabbage Looking? I would be very interested to hear elon Musk's & particularly Peter Rawlinson's (Lucid Motors C.E.O.) on what they think is best! Actually I'd like both of them to do a top 3 & why? Gold, Silver, Bronze & Don't Go There! So we the purchasers knew where we stood!
This sounds like a company propaganda ad campaign. Pitch the company and their products to possible investors.
So far I haven't heard anything truly innovative or to think about this "new motor".
Who will this save money? Clearly not the consumers! The one who built it? Yes! Building a plant, having enought suppy, so on and so on! Stop with the bull!
They have totally put a Brushless synchronous generator to EV as magnet less motor. Not a new technology anymore.
Allot of random images that have nothing to do with the subject.
Interesting but boring presentation
ac induction motors, and series wound motors (as shown in the video) are nothing new.
Yara yara yara ,.. magnet free is better, nicer, reduced Efficiency,.... words with no substance! What is the "new" efficiency? or How much lower compare to the magnet motors?
7:24What a very uninformative and repetitious sond track! I think you tell us about the advantages of this new type of motor at least three times, maybe more. (I am not going back to check!) However, you never once explan how it works.
Repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, but zero about the mother.
Its old technology

its an old things dude
Do some real research.
Mahle is pronounced mahlah..
Are you sure? 😁 I would say Maale! or maybe Maalae.
EVs 👎 I like how the commentator completely ignores the fact that EV batteries cause the environmental problems as mining for magnetic products!! Hahahahahahaha 😅🤣😂
Invented by tesla
It doesn't require as much rare Earth minerals...the EV battery is full of them.
Sooo...its now an electromagnet. Still a magnetic motor.
The real world has caught up to the hobby grade RC world ...10 years later.
Are there RCs using induction motors?
@@markhathaway9456 yes
@markhathaway9456
We call them brushless motors.
There are a few differences between the two...
Brushless motors have a higher level of control using AC and permanent magnets .
The induction motor makes it own magnetic field. It lacks the ability for precise speed control. These motors are best suited for things that run at a constant rpm.
I dont understand the obsession with dangerous bulky batteries and chemical fuels at all. Nicola Tesla, T Henry Moray, Edwin grey and Adam Trombly tapped the vacuum ZPE which is the most energy dense electromagnetic stuff known. Stephen Greere discousses this in the Lost Century and How to relcaim it, all the suppression goinon, Adam trombly was poisened and servived, Floyd Sparky Sweet device had a good power to weight ratio like T Henry Moray and both were shot at. Now the QEG, Homopolar and neutrino power cube are mentioned.
So you like starving plants of their essential food? Please leave that CO2 reduction ideology/idiocy out and limit yourself to the specifications of that motor
Are you a climate change denier?
That’s weird. What else? The earth is flat? You don’t believe in vaccines?
bullshit it is not a new invention, the inventor, the Russian, was murdered here before because people would risk a revenue model with petrol and oil and he sold mopeds and cars and wheelchairs with a magnetic drive, which turned 10+ if you don't actually stop them !! The world can get rid of all those dangerous car batteries within 5 years, but the revenue model is number one for the money-grabbers and tax countries who earn a lot from car fuel, for example the Netherlands charges more than 2.15 per liter. That has to change. cars with magnet motors can then be sold at half of today's prices!!!!
Ford and GM just officially stopped EV production cutting losses. People don't want bulky batteries and long charging time. Even Sales for Tesla cars slowed down. Meaning this is a niche market for high tech fans at about 10 - 15 percent of total auto market. There is a huge consolidation in EV industry in China, lots of startups going bankrupt. Giants like BYD and Tesla can cover 10 percent of battery cars. No more is needed. There is a strong anti battery sentiment right now and market moving into hybrids of various types.
Liar
In Norway where people are richer and maybe more educated than in other countries, 90 % of new car buyers choose BEV. Don't you think there is a reason for this development even though there aren't suitable EVs for every purpose (yet).
People that not really care about costs per km/mile, they can choose other solutions.
At least in the second hand market the buyers are looking for cars with quite low maintenance and running costs.
Uh? First off, all car sells are lower this time around then last, so both ICE and EVs have lower sell numbers not just EVs. 2nd Evs make up over 15-20% of all call sells right now and growing to 40% by 2030. Some markets already see new car sells of EVs around 30% today. Next year a few battery type comes out that is safer and more power dens as well allowing 15min charge times or better and double the current range from 300 to 600 miles. I will agree with the china issue, but thats chinas doing - not EVs doing. Their sub their cars to the point that startups came out of the wood work - in a industry not really design for a ton of startups. Hydrogen is horrable for the environment. The current hybrids are still EV + ICE .
What an annoying video. It keeps saying the same things over and over. Almost like AI was told to keep saying the same thing in different ways.
SHOCKS .... what a brilliant clickbait ord
Better report this kind of video. Useless and time wasting.
aaahhhhh is this something new, naaahhhh..
