The greatest sticks that ever hit a drum !!!!! He'll always be remembered as that profound drummer that led young upcomers to try and be as he was. Without a doubt the central and most dignified stick Master of our decade!!!!!
saw Fred at a local discount store here a few months ago...I started playin triplets on a store shelf and just lookin at him lol..he came right over talkin about Bonhams style,,lmao..we talked drums and laughed,,he invited me to the practice house...way cool guy..
I saw him do a solo at the old tombstone junction and he played until he broke both sticks and finished on the cymbals with his hands. I have seen a lot of artists and that drum solo hasn't been topped 👍👍 thanks Fred you rock man. Hello from Kentucky mountains USA 👍
The Headhunters were at Big Spring Jam a couple of weeks ago, and Fred did the drum solo. Pretty cool for about 7 or 8 minutes, but he kept going and going. Longest solo I've ever seen. He didn't stop for close to 15 minutes. Lot of energy for somebody his age.
Who says an 'ol hillbilly can't play? No words can come close to describing this performance! Love this clip and the performance!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!
I saw theze cats out at the rallys in sturgis one year they were phenomenal. They did a meet&greet after the show and I got to visit with Fred a little. I said I thought he and And Bonnham had similar styles. What he said to me then was a testament to the mans character. One of the nicest people I've met as well as humble and goodhearted.fred. you are every bit the drummer he was. Id bet John would agree. GOD bless you fred.
Not being a huge country guy I never have the Kentucky headhunter a listen. The 1st vid you could tell there's a born killer on the kit. I can't believe I just saw this. Fred Young MONSTER
Word of warning to all who try to fight a drummer.. You'll get your face pulverized in less time than it takes for you to say, " What d'you say ?" With hands like that, Mr. Young is one such drummer that will prove that.. LOL !
Fred Young is one of my Fav drummers. I saw him live in Houlton Maine at the Fair Sat July 27 2001. I was there when the power went out during his solo.. I also played in a band called Ragtop on Fri July 26, 2001 the night before that gig. LOL What an awesome memory!!
For you drumming fans out there, you can see and hear the inspiration of Three Dog Night drummer Floyd Sneed on this drum solo, particularly in the last half of it. Mr. Young has often cited the influence of Mr. Sneed on his drumming in various interviews through the years.
I have never heard anything like it... What a talented person, and I heard from the tractor people that spent all day at his place..He is a down to earth and a very likeable person...Thanks Fred.
always knew this guy had chops just by listening to the cds....but hes a frikkin beast on the drums. reminds me of Tommy Aldridge and John Bonham....but with a tradtional grip!
Ive liked these guys from day one. My band plays walk softly. This is one of the most amazing drum solos Ive seen...PERIOD! Fred is the MAN!! All hail the mutton chops!!
Hey, before I forget, I also want to praise Kid for an excellent job on making this video! Fred gets all of the attention, so I wanted to give the creator of this video a thumbs up too. Great job Kid!
I love that kit! 28" bass drums! A great drummer and he's in a great band - The Kentucky Headhunters. I saw a short clip of Fred Young drumming a few years ago and could not remember his name or the band he was with. I just recently came across the band and him again and it's good to get to know them here. Again - what a cool looking kit! I collect and play vintage drums - these drums are the Kentucky version of the Late Louie Bellson's kit......nice!
+Jay Bing I was lucky enough to see them twice back in the day. Saw them open for Hank Jr. in 1990 and then I saw them on their first headlining tour in '91 I think with Travis Tritt opening for them. They were great. Fred played his a** off that night.
The boss and I saw them on the 25th of Jun 11 and they brought the house down. Old school rock........and roll............Same original members since the 60s. Fred always does his solo at every show. New CD coming out on the 18th of Oct 11. Buy it or stay on the porch.
Video is old, but as of last night, he can still do it. He's still got it! The man is amazing and just an all around great guy. Love the dude. My son got to meet him. Awesome man!
Fred, love the old marchin' band bass drums brother. Nice way to implement them in your retro. The tamberine takes me back to John Bohnamn of Led Zepplin, I use it as well.
Fred is Amazing on the drums. Believe it or not , but if you look at the small drum in the middle on the stand , About 1994 -1995 i was sitting on the tour bus with Fred. He had picked up some wrapping paper at a pawnshop and i was cutting those little figures out and he was gluing them on his drum. We sat on that bus doing that and watched the movie tombstone. They were playing a small concert here in Shelbyville , I was only 15 and it got to hang out with em all day , It was awsome.
He has to be the best drummer ever. If you play any kind of musical instrument you will realize how amazing and talented he is and how difficult it is to do what he does. Prove me wrong. He's the best hands down.
I almost forgot; great job on the videos Kid! The Kentucky Headhunters feature this and many of your other videos on their official MySpace profile, so you pretty much have their approval. Keep up the great work!
Not only is he the best, but he is a great guy. I asked him for a stick after a show one night, but he had given his last one out. He gave me some tips, took my address, and mailed me a pair of sticks the following week. He is a class act!
Fred is such a badass. He's the backbone of the Headhunters' sound.
Fred kicks ass and is one of my favorite drummers.
The greatest sticks that ever hit a drum !!!!! He'll always be remembered as that profound drummer that led young upcomers to try and be as he was. Without a doubt the central and most dignified stick Master of our decade!!!!!

These guys were in my home town tonight, and from what I hear this guy tore it up. Sadly I missed the show.
I was introduced to the headhunters at an early age. About 14 15, and I'm 42 now and still crank it high as it will go.
I saw him do a solo at the old tombstone junction and he played until he broke both sticks and finished on the cymbals with his hands. I have seen a lot of artists and that drum solo hasn't been topped 👍👍 thanks Fred you rock man. Hello from Kentucky mountains USA 👍

it's no wonder where John Fred got his lessons from. His uncle is one bad ass drummer!
Word of warning to all who try to fight a drummer.. You'll get your face pulverized in less time than it takes for you to say, " What d'you say ?" With hands like that, Mr. Young is one such drummer that will prove that.. LOL !
Ferd Young has probably the best John Dear tracker collection Ever!. Great Band!

Whitecloud 94 I know of Tommy Aldridge by name but I don't know who he played with. I do agree with you about John Bonham being an influence
Chops? Was that pun intentional?
@@scottgolden2766 Ozzy

I was absolutely thinking Tommy Aldridge!

Obviously this kind of wild workout has kept this old fellow young. When I say old fellow, I mean about my age. I am 66. I may take up the drums.

I love that kit! 28" bass drums! A great drummer and he's in a great band - The Kentucky Headhunters. I'm sure if you asked him who his favorite drummer was he would say John Bonham
If John Bonham had a double bass kit he would've sounded like this.
Nice Double Kicks. Love the way he demonstrates the Paradiddle towards the end.
he's probably playing double kick with those sideburns!:') great solo:)
😆😆😆. That's a good one, might b true too lol
The boss and I saw them on the 25th of Jun 11 and they brought the house down. Old school rock........and roll............Same original members since the 60s. Fred always does his solo at every show. New CD coming out on the 18th of Oct 11. Buy it or stay on the porch.
