I just ended up here because I saw a short where someone used the gold leaf rub and buff to do the frame of their TV. Then they went to a vintage art TH-cam channel. Scrolling art hanging on the wall. 🖼️
You are right...so much prettier! My grandma was the big Rub & Buff queen in the late 50’s, I believe they just had gold back then. I have used it since we married in 1968...it lasts forever! We had a furnished apartment and I was unhappy with the decor. I use it still on picture frames that need some attention. Your light is just stunning! Thanks for the lesson! Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕
Thanks for showing this. I had forgotten about this product s d you have encouraged me to touch up some lamp bases. And who knew it came in other colors? Your husband must be a real character!!!
I love this stuff. It's so versatile! I've used it on everything from old wooden jewelry boxes to the hardware on an antique chest, picture frames etc.
I didn't know about this product when I painted two light fixtures which were gold to bronze! Your light fixture looks Beautiful! Funny how colors seem to leave & come back in again!
Great idea for the door handle and door lock! I use to use this product when I made candles! I only had one tube in gold but it lasted for a long time! I am glad to see they are still making it! I will have to get some!
I ordered some and am going to apply it today on a door lockset I had to replace. The only one available was satin nickle and I need dark bronze so I bought black. As a former handyman in high school and throughout college, and after having renovated several homes, I'm a pretty capable handyman/problem solver. I personally would have removed the light fixture to refinish it. The lockset, too. You did a great job, but ensuring the lines are crisp and even is tedious.
That light looks great! not sure my neck would handle the top inside. You did a good job. Once you got the itch you went for the door. That made it look very different. Classy. Really great ideas. Now I have some ideas. I won't be running outside to do anything. Someone said we have 4o inches of snow here in Iowa. I have not been out for a week. I have been painting inside my kitchen cabinet. I guess we just can't stay still. So far so good, no Covid. Joyce
Well I think your rub and buff cream is something totally easy and fast to use! It looked great on everything you used it on. What a A+ bunch of ideas! I always enjoy your videos.
Immediately after watching your video, I used my Rub and Buf Gold Leaf to turn a silver leaf light fixture (I diyed 20 years ago--it started out gold!) back to gold!
Hahaha on the artwork. We placed art in a powder room above the commode 20 years ago that said, “May all who come behind us find us faithful.” It was a joke, of course. Loved hearing people laugh when they entered.
Doing a reno and am giving new life to two old light fixtures with...Rub n’ Buff! So when I saw this video in my “scrolling through TH-cam faves while drinking my coffee” morning, I had to see how you used it! Great timing! Thank you! (Also, I’m with ya on that, erm, placement...lol)
Hello favourite designer, These little tips you show are so amazing and helpful. I was waiting for you to get some gold on the white ceiling but no, you did not! It is so easy to refurbish something which need to be re-juventated. I have used gilt cream many times and in particular to customise picture frames to achieve an antique effect on an otherwise dull frame. I have only this week painted a dark grey wooden lamp base and equally dull grey shade using a Farrow and Ball paint sample pot to get a more linen colour to suit my bedroom decor. So much better than replacing. Sending hugs across from the UK.
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try this on some shelving brackets. The shelves come with gold brackets but I need silver/chrome to match my bathroom fixtures. Saving this video so that I can let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!
Thank you for the video, just curious how did the black hold up on the knob after daily use? I want to do my bathroom faucets and handles in black, would it hold up?
Is the Gold Leaf color the closest to the color of brass? I noticed there is another one called Antique Gold. I want to freshen up the brass on my three level cart. Thank Very Much !!
Hi Jennifer, I just came across your channel and this video on Rub n Buff. I am hoping you can guide me a bit. I would like to change a solid black pendant fixtures some. The solid black is heavy looking for the area. I would like to lighten it up some to like an aged bronze color or give the black some highlights somehow. Do you have any suggestions of colors to choose?
How cool is this! I have a question. We have a kitchen /dinning room combo. We just repainted all cabinets white with matte black knobs. We also installed lights over island and sink that are the farmhouse industrial look in the color of dark bronze. The dinning room has an old chandelier that is silver, looks like it was painted silver. I plan on painting it black to match the knobs and black granite countertops in the kitchen . However after watching this do you think I should do rub and buff in bronze or maybe even something different? Btw I think your husband was right!! We all need to encouragement even in that moment ! Haha
Is there a safe way to "reverse" rub and buff off metal? Like if I rub and buff my faucet fixtures then want to return them back to the original metal, is that safely possible without damaging the metal?
@@JenniferDecorates Haha! I saw your video and thought wow my mom was genius in her selling the products changing them to match people’s decor! Thanks for responding!
Any information on how this stuff wears on handles used daily. Not extreme used but once or twice a day. I want to make my nightstand table handles gold and they are so long that just replacing them is next to impossible. Would love to try this product but I really know if it will wear well. Thanks!
I have this bright yellow bronze bathroom towel holder that I would like to "antique." Is there a way to thinly apply the ebony rough n' buff so that plenty of the bronze shows through? And is it a good idea or a bad idea to use on a towel holder where people dry their hands and the towel constantly gets pulled on?
I just received my new rimless eyeglasses in the mail today (online order). The hardware pieces (nose bridge and side pieces) are very noticeable because they are screwed directly into the lenses. But the gold color is way too shiny, and the nose bridge is thicker than my previous glasses, so that's what you're looking at when you look at my eyes. Would Rub N Buff work to tone down the gold finish, or provide a matte finish? I had never heard of Rub N Buff until I googled to find a metal paint I could possibly use on eyeglass frames. This looks like a miracle.
I tried touching up an old copper lamp and when I try the "buff part" it just rubs right off, what am I doing wrong? I did use plastic gloves to put it on and tried both buffing right away and then again letting it dry.
Your husband is funny, but I think us ladies got better things to do!!😂 Thanks for sharing about rub and buff. I found a beautiful picture frame that is painted an ugly blue, and am wondering if it would work on that? Does it work on wood?
Oh my gosh, it’s gorgeous in gold! Thank you for this terrific tutorial.
Thanks so much 😊

I love Rub n Buff. When I redid my kitchen, the hinges cost more than the other hardware. I used Rub N Buff on the hinges. Perfect.
Thanks for showing this. I had forgotten about this product s d you have encouraged me to touch up some lamp bases. And who knew it came in other colors?

He is a mess! ☺️🤦🏼♀️
I have this already, but had forgotten about it. Thank you Jennifer for jogging my memory and giving Mr some great ideas on where to use it!
Yeah!!
Love!!
I could see rub & buff transforming:
> art & photo frames
> lamps
Absolutely!
I love this stuff. It's so versatile! I've used it on everything from old wooden jewelry boxes to the hardware on an antique chest, picture frames etc.
Well, I a addicted. I will admit I walked around the house with it in my hands thinking what can I do next. ha
Wow, that looks simple enough but yet beautiful.
It is!
It looks great. Rich looking.

Gracious! Isn't that the truth!!!
What a clever idea!!!
Your taste is impeccable! Beautiful!
Wasn’t expecting the ending but that’s what made it even funnier 😅
I love Rub "n Buff...it works so well! Great ideas!
Yes it does!
Wow! I wasn't aware this product existed. Thank You !

Great idea for the door and lighting updates. TFS. The artwork at the end is hilarious. Lol.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hello Joyce! You are so right! My neck was not happy. Glad you are doing well!!!
I love love love your new fixture. I have used on mirrors before but never even thought about light fixtures. Wonderful great product!
Thanks so much!
For the door handle, how did it hold up? Did you end up reapplying and sealing it? Did it get on your hands as you used the door?
Jennifer, your tips are always so classy and beautiful! Thanks, Gorgeous!
That's amazing stuff.

Immediately after watching your video, I used my Rub and Buf Gold Leaf to turn a silver leaf light fixture (I diyed 20 years ago--it started out gold!) back to gold!
I'm glad hold is coming back. I won't have to change out my fixtures.
I have a ton of gold furniture and furnishings. I love it. I have one friend who does not like gold so I told him he doesn't have to come visit! lol
What a find! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Glad you enjoyed it
😁😁😁 that is hilarious! Love how your light fixture and door knob turned out! It's amazing what paint can do!
Thank you! Yes. Paint is a budget dream.

Hello Sophie! Well, I have never used gilt cream! I need to check into that! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I have door hardware that needs this!
Love these ideas!

Hey Jennifer! You are so talented!! Even when it comes to art!! LOL! have a great day! Hugs! :)
Thank you! You too!
Nice ideas 💡 👌 👍
This is such a great idea! I have an older keypad. I never thought to paint it. thanks you.
Yes! Try it out! It really brought ours back to life
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing Jennifer!
You are so welcome!
Can this be used on faucets in a bathroom? Happy I found your channel. great quick tutorial, thank you!
Yes you can!
Been wanting to try that stuff . I need in my life LOL!!
Fantastic!
Great job!
It looks great!
Thank you! Cheers!
What?!! I had no idea Rub and buff came in a gold...I thought you could only go darker. Ohhhh the possibilities!!!
Right!!!!! That’s how I squirreled over to my desk. 🤣
I love the update on the faded outdoor lock. Mine needs it as well. Is the rub and buff weather proof?
Yes it is!
I agree with you Jennifer
Very helpful!! Thank you
It really is a great product
Always good info! Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Game changer!!
You just saved my door handle and lock! That’s for sharing!!
You are welcome!!
Love this! I did what you said and it turned out great! Cheap too! Thanks. Love your channel.
Wow! Beautiful so I’ll try it! Yayyyy! Thank you so much for doing that for us! Love it!💖
I'm glad you liked it!
Not for nothing but I think your husband has a fun sense of humor
Yes. He is a mess!!
What a difference. Wow!
Too funny. Yes, I agree with you. Lol
Neat product and great results! 💜
Thanks so much!
Love this! Just started watching and you have given me so many great ideas. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
Could you please tell me the name of your wall color in your foyer, thank you!!
The light looks beautiful
Do you wait until it’s dry to buff it? Or still wet ?
What a neat product! I could use that!! How do you find it holds up over time, for example on a door knob or light switch?
Well, hopefully better that my original door knob. Ha.
OMG I’m still laughing! Your videos are the best I just bought rub n buff yesterday to do candlesticks.
You did??!! Okay wow that’s crazy! Have a good day.
Love it!
Can I use this on kitchen door knobs
I think even I can do this! Thanks!
Of course you can!!
Please update as too how this is lasting in knobs and handles as they get used more often! Thanks!!
Have been done for a year, and still looking great!
In re the art: I agree with you.
😂 I too agree with Jennifer. That type of art would not find a place anywhere in my home, not even the garage.
Thank you for the video, just curious how did the black hold up on the knob after daily use? I want to do my bathroom faucets and handles in black, would it hold up?
Did you use primary
Did you buff when it was wet?

Are those will faded?
Wondering if I can use this on my kitchen faucet? It is a brushed nickel right now.
Jennifer where did you get those beautiful wall lanterns ?
Hello there! We sell them in our store. I do love them.

Grecian gold is a really pretty rub-n-buff color!

How does it hold up for cleaning?
Really really well!
How many rub and buffs did you use for that one light ?
Hello - if you undo the rub N buff? I'm wanting to turn my black kitchen handles from black to gold but I'm nervous that I'll regret it. Any tips?

Am I doing something wrong? The black won't stick to the hardware. It is rubbing off completely
Where'd you find that entry table
We sell it in our store. ☺️
Does it stand the test of time? Is it still there on the door even now?
Yes, it does!
How long does it dry
Not very long AT all! Maybe 20 minutes or less.
