I use a mix of olive oil and beeswax melted down together to restore colour to pipes that had to be topped. I find that always does the trick. And a nice kaywoodie, I have an unusual British made kaywoodie prince that is waiting to be cleaned up, been putting it off as the screw in tenon is in a right state
