    I worked for Green Mountain Railroad and was Chief Passenger Agent when she and her two sisters ran in Vermont.

    I wonder how many coaches or freight cars can 1293 pull unassisted?

    • @trainfreak900
      @trainfreak900  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan's Megazord reviews from what I was told by a few crew members, She was only really designed to pull 6-8 cars at pretty high speeds. These pacific’s were passenger engines, and they did the job well!
      however! If you check out Reading & Northern 425, (another pacific of similar size) they CAN pull decent sized trains with no assist.

      That explains not that many coaches when it visited in 2012 and I wonder why 1293 hasn't done any runs there since is it because of some problems it had during theses runs and that 765 is basically 1293's permanent replacement for the steam in the valley runs done every September

      Does the same go for freight too?

    • @trainfreak900
      @trainfreak900  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan's Megazord reviews depending on the payload.. probably a few more cars!
      With the large drivers, she was designed for higher speed vs lugging freight cars around.

      @@AndrewLieb 1293, Canadian Locomotive Company serial #2450. was delivered from Kingston on June 30, 1948. These G-5 Pacifics were a post WWII design intended to replace older power in secondary main and Branchline service. Canadian Pacific was one of the few North American railways to make post war steam for this type of service. Class prototypes, 1200 & 1201. were the last steam built in CPR's Angus shops in 1944

    Nice! What’s the whistle on #1293?

    • @trainfreak900
      @trainfreak900  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheBlueComet832 thanks! If I remember correctly, I think its just the standard 5 chime it usually wears.

    • @steamandsmoke97
      @steamandsmoke97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the standard issue Canadian Pacific Step-Top 5 chime that a majority of later CP Steam Engines had. You may notice that it sounds slightly sharper and higher pitched than other CP 5 chimes, like 2317's, without as much puffy white steam if any at all. That's because the G-5 Pacifics run at a higher steam pressure (250 psi compared to 200 on most earlier CP Engines), and the whistles take their steam directly from the Dry Header of the Superheater Manifold, which is why the whistles are mounted directly behind the stack. The dry header is directly under it inside the smokebox.

    What does a clear no steam coming out a a steam whistle mean?

    • @fuscoproductions
      @fuscoproductions 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the whistle is blown using superheated steam.

    • @CENsystem
      @CENsystem 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually because 1293 has a air articulated whistle, all CP G5 Pacifics were like that

    • @fuscoproductions
      @fuscoproductions 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But it is being blown on steam. Not air. Steam is actually clear. It only turns white when it condenses back into water. Hotter (superheated steam) condenses less in the air, so it isn't as white and puffy. I believe 1293's whistle is hooked up to a superheated steam supply
