Thanks Mike...the C&T is a great scenic railroad and worth the trip. They used to rent out the caboose for private parties...bring your own food & bev kinda thing.

Recently I was writing an essay about the rise of the freight train in the golden age of steam, and I had to describe viewpoints that benefitted railroad crews, and I made a few calls to the Cumbres & Toltec, and during the fall photo charter, I got exclusive access to ride in the doghouse on C&T 489
BTW, that beautiful golden expanse, such as at 6:30, was called "Aspen Glow" by the people around Wild Basin of Rocky Mountain National Park when I was there in the fall of 1971. Do the Coloradans still call it that? (The folks in northern Wisconsin call Aspens "Popples" for the sound their leaves make in the breeze and the "Aspen Glow" is just as beautiful---except no steam locos!
You can either ride from one end to the other with a bus return or you can go half way and back on the train both ways. The reason being that the line is sufficiently long enough that it would be hard to do a full round trip in one day.
I'm saying this in quite a few railway videos..... Be great if we the viewer could have the co ordinates of the tracks both at the start and finish of the video so giving us a chance to see the locations on Google Earth as well. Just a thought.
Mike, this is truly superb, spectacular footage shot at a particularly attractive time of the year with the fall colours at their best! These little 2-8-0s really do pack a punch when digging in against the grade, and 64 miles gives plenty of scope to see and hear them in action. Tell me, is the flanged top on the chimney stack some sort of spark arrestor? I watch all of your top quality videos but, as I'm a big steam fan, I usually only comment on the steam vids. I recently bought a Samsung 55", 4k tv, with full HD and 4k standard and it really does justice to your work. Hats off to you for yet another top notch video production Mike! Jack Killeen similar. IMO it is a little off. But it is still great. They are both ATSF 6 Chimes so that’s why.
