    Excellent video Richard. Great to see the progress you have made.
    One suggestion for your ballast rake; you could do with Shark plough brake van for it. Pleased to see the Sealions in the rake as well. Well done for rescuing the damaged wagon kits too.

    Great update. Big fan of the engineers train and that work you put in to restore the damage is very impressive. The rail tour and your research around it really inspires me to put that amount of effort into my research. The green on that hall class looks great. I got the Hornby Pullman coaches myself only due to the period I’m modelling and I will admit the bachmann mk1’s look even better. Awesome running shots at the end to cap it off. All the best, Clint at Leila Central.

    Some great additions those sealion wagons might of even been in my watch list lol.
    Having a mainline steamer is something I've given thought to aswell, I do like the halls & castle classes very fitting for a Devon layout.

    Hello Richard, The MetCam Pullmans coaches ex East Coast Mainline, in 1988 were operated by Pullman Rail based at the Severn Valley Railway. MetCam coaches used where Nos 335/347 to 353 (99335 to 99353 on TOPS) , The Habrian Bar Pullman Second, Two Mark 1 BCK coaches Nos 21249 & 21245 (numbered 355 & 356) TWO BR First Opens 3112 & 3108 and Mark 1 Sleeper Car 2127. In the early 1980's the MetCam coaches where operated by the Steam Locomotives Owners Association (SLOA|). Most of the MetCam coaches are now operated by West Coast Railways of Careforth or Vintage Trains of Tyseley. Hope this of help. Information comes from the 1988 edition of Platform 5 Coaching Stock book.

    I had an idea for your reverse siding to make it more fitting. You could always ballast beyond the buffer beam and tie the ballast into one side or the other as if once upon a time the reverse siding was part of the main line. Occasionally railroads will repurpose trackage rather than rip them out completely.

    Lovely update Rich. Its coming along great! Not that I'd expect any different.
    For me the only issue I have with the Bachmann EPB, is that you can't change the headcode box to show White Blinds instead of Red. So it always looks odd heading backout of a terminus.

  • @pierre-de-standing
    @pierre-de-standing 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice one Richard. I used to commute on the WR at this time and I think you have caught the time and aura of this era really very well. I think the network then had more interest too with the myriad of classes. OK today we have loads of liveries, but there is a limit to how many 66s I want to see - usually none. Noticed you had one of the Bullhead points, I'm really hoping that they bring out the medium versions early next year. With the limited space I have the large radius points in a siding will gobble up way too much space.

    This must be the absolute epitome of modelling! I have no idea how you do it - your powers of observation and the ability to construct it all in model form are truly amazing. Look forward immensely to the next episode. And I do like the idea of introducing the third rail to the branch line. Presumably locates the layout somewhere to the east of Reading?

  • @banedon8087
    @banedon8087 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Richard
    Good to see the 2EPB. I've got 4 of these: 2 in BR blue (with the correct numbers!) and 2 in blue & grey. Love 'em. Couldn't afford the sound-enabled versions though as Bachmann prices are a little bit mad these days (I paid full price for 3 of them and slightly less for the 4th - you mentioning £60 makes me want to cry with envy lol).
    You might struggle with 3rd rail if you're running on code 75 andf using peco 3rd rail kit (the loco shoes will rub slightly). The answer appears to be to cut the off the "pole" (bit that goes down into the ballast) of the plastic holders (sorry for lack of correct terminology) that hold the rail up, don't use the washer-like spacers which the peco kit comes with and make the hole that the pole goes into larger. It works, but is a major pain in the backside. I tried other things like a rail from some N gauge track, but was still too high. If you find a different (better) way of doing this then please share :).
    Lastly: Great video - many thanks for taking the time to share your creation.

    • @bionicgeekgrrl
      @bionicgeekgrrl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      C&l finescale do a much nicer 3rd rail chair and equipment range imo, the peck stuff is rather overscale really. Including the protection boards. The scale four society also do a good representation of the pots, but you need to be a member to buy those iirc (some items they sell you don't need to be a member).
      However, shoebeam rubbing and collision can be a problem due to various manufacturers setting the shoe gear too low, or too wide etc with a lot of variable between.
      A pair of 2HAPs converted to 4CAP would be right for the era as the compartment stock by this point was being made peak only due to the incident of a woman being murdered in the 80s, a colour band was also applied to make it clearer where it was compartments. A 456 would look good though, bratchell do a kit that is ready painted and with a little extra work look nice.

    • @banedon8087
      @banedon8087 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bionicgeekgrrl Thanks for the C&l finescale suggestion. I'll look into it to see if I can lay hands on a kit. Got to be better than modding peco kits!

    You are a brilliant modeller Richard. Can I question one thing? I am a bit of a narrow boat nut. I have never seen one with a concave curved bow. They all seem to have a convex curve, which given the battering they take would be much stronger.

  • @2H80vids
    @2H80vids 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love how so many views really stand-up to close scrutiny with the camera. When you're detailing an area, do you actually use the camera to see how a particular shot will look or do you just tend to shoot the best looking areas?
    The close coupling on the parcels rake is really effective too, makes a massive difference. That must be one of the most obvious alterations that distinguishes a model railway from a train set. You're lucky, not needing tight curves anywhere. Some great layouts end up with tighter curves in the hidden sections, preventing the use of close couplings.
    Is the Pukka Pies van your own livery, or an off-the-shelf product?
    Looking better every episode !!
    All the Best,
    Dougie.
