  • Been busy over the past month or so. The main portion of the station platforms are now complete. Still a very long way to with this part of the layout but I'm pleased with how it's looking so far.

    Awesome 80's vibes from the intro. Gave me vibes to the "Round Trip To Glasgow" and "This is the age of the train"
    Looking forward to the rest!

    That weathered track looked absolutely superb. I am trying to weather the track on my son's layout and as a first try with only brushes etc., it isn't going well!!! I can't wait to finish it so I can then make a mess of ballasting as well...I hope with some practice and better tools that I can get as good as you are.

      That made me laugh! I remember my one and only attempt at track weathering - it was terrifying! It felt like a one-way deal with the only option to keep going darker...

    Thank you for another excellent video. I’ve just posted a similar comment on Dean Park’s channel. Just wanted to thank you both for your inspiration. Some 30+ years ago I rescued my boyhood train set from the family home all with the best of intentions but no progress. After seeing your video’s I’ve started to prepare the loft, lighting and power now added. Thanks again for getting me going and setting my retirement hobby.

    The single and disused platform in the bay are stunning. Can hardly wait to see the platform later on when it is totally finished. Cheers, Bob

    Excellent attention to detail and just enough litter for my liking. I've seen a few railway videos from the 70's/80's and to say some people refer to that time as better maybe it wasn't as far as litter louts, the litter in some stations was an embarrasment for a train enthusiast. These days we have more of the dreaded invasive Budlia and less litter, which is how I prefer it. I love the authentic effect of oil and grime clogging up the ballast and it reminded me of some of the more grimey workshops at Doncaster plant when I worked there. I'm getting so much inspiration from your work and your infectious enthusiasm.

  • @darrenhillman8396
    @darrenhillman8396 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Love the attention to details, as ever. The bay platform trackbed looks suitably oil-soaked and the litter is a superb touch.
    Don’t forget your red lamp for the bay platform buffer stop though. Mounted on top or on a post behind the buffer stops. In reality, this would have to be electrically proved as “lit” to satisfy the signalling controls interlocking, this in order to get a yellow aspect in the last signal up to the platform, with ‘Bay’ indication on an associated stencil indicator or multi-lamp route indicator which would be mounted alongside (stencil) or above the signal head (either position). If I can be of help with anything re signalling, give me a shout.

    I just ran 5.5kms on a treadmill watching this, fantastic 👍🏻 You are very talented and have a great eye for detail. One day, I’d like to build my own layout based on the trains I used to watch growing up in the late 70’s and 80’s in Staines, Middlesex (3rd rail electrics but plenty of varieties of rolling stock).

    That branch line reminds me of platform 2 and 3 at reading where the diesel Reading to Basingstoke stops and starts all day long dropping oil each day plus all the exhaust smoke going everywhere making that part of the track look like this 👏👏👏👏

  • @grahamknight8994
    @grahamknight8994 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Loved the intro as much as the modelling content, superb shots, cuts, zooms and angles, just as authentic as your weathering and details. Those sweeping curves and superelevation adds to the realism, I had to do a double take with those two 33's double heading the ballast working past those extra wide platforms, for a moment I was there back in the 1980's on the end of that platform. 😍

    I wonder if you might want to add some layers to the blowing trash. My experience in the US is there will be a layer of paper so old and composted into the ballast that it is only vaguely recognizable by shape, and completely black/brown. There will be a second layer well on its way, but with still the occasional spot of recognizable but unreadable headline type. Then the third layer of recent paper that blew in on the latest wind and stuck on the bushes and corners.

    Southern Railway Concrete platform edging as produced in the SR Exmouth Junction concrete works from the 1930's. (Peco being in South Devon seem to like copying SR infrastructure !) Mmmphh and the third rail next, and then some EMU's maybe ? Tip: Buffer stop buffer beam, in the Bay platform road, should be red (1980's) with a red lensed lamp on the buffer stop. To enter a platform dead end track a single yellow aspect (post 1966 ish) is required, because after a single yellow comes a red, so the red lamp on the buffer stop is the end of the line SIGNAL.
    Also I wouldn't replace the slip with a Bullhead one as you have concrete sleeper welded rail track either side, and the P.Way Engineer wouldn't tolerate an old Bullhead slip in such a position ! I'm and ex BR Toplink Driver....
    The layouts coming along nicely, and your vids are well presented, most enjoyable.

      Wasn't unknown for buffers to be pushed backwards by the occasional train however, which would remove some rust.

    Another fantastic video Richard. Agree with "Owen's Model Railways", loving the intro and incidental 80s music. Almost expected Dempsey and Makepeace to come running onto the platform chasing some ne'er do well probably connected to the robbery at Database. Really interesting to see the transformative effect that final layer of spray and the litter detailing had on that terminating platform. Certainly is coming along a pace, keep it coming and I for one wouldn't mind seeing longer episodes although realising time is at a premium for certain activities. Ah before I forget, seeing the weathering along the platform edges with the sponge, for some reason it made me think of those Kiwi Shine & Protect bottles with the applicator sponge on top, maybe something you could use in the future?

      Those kiwi applicators would work a treat. I've been using old packaging up to now!
