I'm not adopted but my brother is . We had to prove in court and various other places for 2 years that we were a fit family for him, and it was very hard to keep going through and not inexpensive. He had health complications and heart issues, and his birth family kept fighting to take him back even though they couldn't prove to be able to take care of him and just dragged the process out. My stepmother wanted a family very badly and wanted to give the devotion to helping a child that may have had a rough life and needed the attention necessary to help him. I've known other people who tried to adopt, and then when kids had mental issues or demanded more attention they just gave up.
I genuinely hate it when people say that. It's like they're thinking about kids as commodities or possessions. They think of adoption as something to fall back on if they can't have their own. They don't even once consider the kids involved. I know there are good people who adopt, there are lots of them, but God does it boil my piss when people use it as like you said. A consolation prize
My three brothers are adopted and I agree. They weren't prizes cuz my mom couldn't have kids anymore, they are a part of our family that just happened to be born somewhere else. Plus, adoption is super expensive and complicated. My parents put so much time and effort into adopting my brothers that I cannot help but be so in awe of.

I've collected dolls most of my life. I have artist dolls, ooak, fashion, historical, antique, bjd's and many others. But one doll I don't have are baby dolls. I only had one when I was very young and gave it away. I'm just not interested in them. They may be cute to some but I find them a bit creepy, like deceased babies. I've seen woman at doll shows pushing them around in strollers and baby carriages. I find that odd. But there is something out there for everyone but these are not for me.

Even not including fertility issues, there are so many other factors that are involved in taking care of a real child. Economic being one of the biggest, so even if people can have a child and do want a child, that doesn't mean they are able to take care of that child because of cost and/or environment
That's so true! I'm young women who would love have baby. With my mother we had small business, now it's working pretty fine after a years of hard work And even tho I can't imagine!!! Having a baby right now! I don't even live in America and everything seems so expensive! If this would be a "accident" I would accept that and it would work probably but it would be still w struggle. But I must plan accordingly bc I'm lesbian so no way to talk about accidents in that way 😅

Well said hunni. Following misscarriages I was told by several specialists I couldn't have children, nor was I able to carry. Endometriosis, cos, ehlers danlos and more. My son was a total miracle, born bang on his due date healthy and well. I have suffered more misscartiages since and never been blessed to have another baby, but I truelly apreciate my son, who is now 19!!! I too love reborns and also make them myself. They are incredible works of art that capture the beauty of babies! My husband finds them creepy but respects my love of them and the artistry behind them. Keep being authentically you hunni and never let anyone's cheap, throw away remarks get to you! Hope and pray you are blessed with ur own little one someday, you'll be an amazing mummy!x
I'm not trying to be mean, but I know plenty of women who had children who are TERRIBLE mothers and should have just been given a reborn to play with instead. It's always been a puzzle to me why some women can have kids and mistreat them, and other women who would cherish a child can't have them 😔
This is my big thing and a HUGE understated reason as to WHY I paint reborns. Way too many people are too Emotionally Stunted and bereft of any actual Maturity (let alone self-reflection or selflessness) to be deemed capable of raising anything more sentient than a doll, not to talk of a hamster. I want children so bad but I’m absolutely terrified of the idea of being pregnant and giving birth after I had a miscarriage a couple years ago. I hope to overcome that fear one day but do plan to get a reborn doll to help with coping. Also to piggyback on benefits of reborn dolls, they don’t require a lot of expenses except for maintenance and all the clothes and goodies they receive! I’m still doing my research before purchasing one and saving up. But hope to get one soon 🥰 Thank you so much for your videos, Jess! Even if you do have dolls as a substitute for kids and not just because you like dolls 1- lots of people CANT make real babies 2- Adoption is a SUPER complicated process, it’s not going to petco and picking out a fish. It’s crazy expensive, it can take years, you can randomly get denied and not have a clear explanation as to why, it can fall through at the last minute and you lose the kid, the biological parents might become involved and that’s intense emotionally, adoption is beautiful but it starts with a loss, even if you get a baby, there’s still a certain amount of trauma involved because babies do experience stress even if they don’t understand exactly what’s happening, and being separated from the only person they’ve ever known that they’ve literally been attached to up until that point is crazy stressful, you need to be mentally prepared to deal with that, I just cannot comprehend putting the word “just” before the word adopt, or having a real baby. Those aren’t things you JUST do.
I wanted babies, couldn't have them even with ivf and wherever I go there are prams or children everywhere. I can't adopt or foster as I'm is too old and too sick.. I feel the pain jess.. Even if you had perfect fertility and you were crazily fertile, and you got pregnant like every week, it is entirely a different thing to have to afford a whole baby than to afford a one time doll purchase or maybe clothes and stuff that sometimes even come with the doll,? I won a reborn doll She was absolutely perfect, beautiful. I gave her to my 83-year-old grandma 6-7 years ago & She gave it to a 10-year-old. Makes me so mad. I wish I had have never gave it away.
I've had a chemical pregnancy and struggle with it, so any time I get responses like that or things like "go to therapy you're delusional" it hits hard. I do occasionally go out with my reborn (especially special occasions) and for the most part people look the other way.

There is a good kit maker out there,and thinking of what playstyle would suit them and building a kit around it is so fun!

I was told at 16 that I would never be able to have a baby of my own. 20 years later I gave birth to my first and probably only baby. I never understood the appeal of reborn dolls until I had my own baby. I understand now.
Not to mention adoption comes with a lot of things. I’m ineligible because of my autism. And there’s so many other things that make people ineligible. Like space, fencing, or income. You have to pass many tests and checks with cps to adopt and if one thing, even if it’s not having an a singular outlet covered, you will not be able to have a kid in your care.
“Just make a real baby!” Are we considering the child in all of this or just putting women down? A child takes years of consideration and can literally kill you from giving birth, its not as easy as just “oh lets have a baby they’re cute”, its “our entire lives and every choice from now on will revolve around this child”
I have three real children ages 7, 4 and 1. Sometimes I wish I could put them in a glass display cabinets and they would be quiet, sit still and don't age. 😂😂

I have a couple of reborns. I am not having a real baby anytime soon. I had someone in a Facebook group tell me I should. However, I am a 17 year old in a same-sex relationship. Next time you're faced with that question, just respond with, "Can't you mind your own business?"

Even if this was a delusion thing, that is NOT how you treat a mentally ill individual stuck in an active delusion. You are NOT helping them “get better” by making fun of them and telling them to “get over it”. Regardless of how they see your situation, they are in the wrong with their actions.
I’m too young mentally for a baby and not ready and mentally unstable for the responsibility for a real baby so I’ll keep my dolls thank you very much so I agree with you on that it’s really rude and offensive to assume doll collectors can just get a real baby and or adopt.
Despite having 6 "real" children, I still see the appeal of reborn - the amount of artistic skills needed to have them look even half as realistic as yours is mind boggling! I can just admire them as phenomenal masterpieces!
i recently bought my first reborn and i couldnt be happier, i can’t have kids of my own..i dont treat my doll as a real baby but i use it when i need comfort ❤
not to mention, adopting a child is not a backup plan. it's so valid and amazing to want to adopt a child, but you should do so because you want a child to have a safe and loving home and family, and NOT because it's your plan B.

I won a reborn doll She was absolutely perfect, beautiful. I gave her to my 83-year-old grandma 6-7 years ago & She gave it to a 10-year-old. Makes me so mad. I wish I had have never gave it away.
I've had a chemical pregnancy and struggle with it, so any time I get responses like that or things like "go to therapy you're delusional" it hits hard. I do occasionally go out with my reborn (especially special occasions) and for the most part people look the other way.
I have just recently had a son when we thorugh we couldn't had kid but i still collect dolls those i do put them on a high shelf away from my little mimi chaos.

I’m infertile myself (from being transgender in my case) and have noticed that many people can be quite inconsiderate when it comes to motherhood in these contexts. Wishing you the best!

Adoption is also so expensive it’s literally not an option for most people
I was told at 16 that I would never be able to have a baby of my own. 20 years later I gave birth to my first and probably only baby.
I never understood the appeal of reborn dolls until I had my own baby. I understand now.
Not to mention adoption comes with a lot of things. I’m ineligible because of my autism. And there’s so many other things that make people ineligible. Like space, fencing, or income. You have to pass many tests and checks with cps to adopt and if one thing, even if it’s not having an a singular outlet covered, you will not be able to have a kid in your care.
“Just make a real baby!” Are we considering the child in all of this or just putting women down? A child takes years of consideration and can literally kill you from giving birth, its not as easy as just “oh lets have a baby they’re cute”, its “our entire lives and every choice from now on will revolve around this child”

What a sick thing to say to someone! Whether someone wants a baby or not it is just plain nasty to tell someone to just "make a baby" like it is easy, cheap and accessible to all. let alone all the health and medical factors surrounding pregnancy and childbirth too.

I have a couple of reborns. I am not having a real baby anytime soon. I had someone in a Facebook group tell me I should. However, I am a 17 year old in a same-sex relationship. Next time you're faced with that question, just respond with, "Can't you mind your own business?"

This I say in general, the comment about making a real baby is of course not a nice way of putting it.
