  • Welcome to Episode 8 in our Sacraments series, where Father Paul Robinson will join us to explain in detail the Traditional Latin Mass. Even though this episode is more than an hour and a half long, we’ll only cover the basics of all the richness and ceremony of a Traditional Latin Low Mass. Below are some resources for further study.
    But today, we’ll look at the themes of the Mass - what the Traditional Mass is emphasizing over and over, then go, step by step, through the Mass, with visuals and explanations of the prayers, the symbolism, and the ceremonies performed by the priests each day, in nearly every country of the world.

    I returned to the Holy Apostolic Church this year after a 40 year walk of apostasy everywhere else. I experienced a crises of conscience in January that lasted five days. Had my "first" Sacrament of Confession mid February and recieved my first Sacrament of Communion two days later. Pray the Rosary daily and attend Our Lady of The Holy Rosary in Manitoba. I am HOME!!! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR THIS CHANNEL; I subscribed after seeing my second video here. This stuff is amazing and a great help for people like me. God BLESS you guys.

    I am a Traditional Catholic at heart, but there isn’t one near me. My NO parish is literally right next door. Luckily the two Priests there are very reverent and do not commit any abuses (outside of the NO ordinary) they never talk politics, they preach from the early catechism, they never have guitars or Mass on rafts, etc. they are open to using Latin as much as they are comfortable. Once a month I will travel to the nearest Diocesan Latin Mass but it isn’t easy for me to get there. Pray for me. Pray for my Priests.

    I think it's important to use the word 'Tridentine' rather than 'Traditional' --- it leads people to the Council of Trent--- and what you find there is undeniable and stengthens souls to what is True when it comes to the proper form , matter and intent of all the Sacraments

    When I learned how to be an Altar Boy, there was no such thing as the "Traditional Latin Mass." There was only "The Mass." The Liturgical Devastation started around 1964--a full 5 years before the NO Mass was imposed upon the Church. By the time the NO Mass was imposed on the Church the Mass had already had the stuffing beaten out of it. After I had stopped going to Church, I very glibly told anyone who would listen that "I didn't leave the Church -- the Church left me!" And I still don't believe that I was wrong! It took me a long while to realize that the Church had really gone into hiding!
    Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Francis Fenton.

    I always tell my friends (and myself) a simple analogy of the Mass, comparing the Old and the New, It goes like this: The (Old) Mass, containing the Diamond (Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist,) Over time, is refined (Polished) and given more emphasis on the Sacrificial Nature of that very rite. Now, the New mass has that same Diamond (still valid) but it doesnt polish it, nor does it put it in a place where it sheds it's radiance, rather, it is thrown in a pit of mud where it is seen less, and often times ignored (and disrespected.)

    For the first 55 years of my life, I attended N.O. The Low Mass on Christmas Day 2021 was my first TLM.
    Question: at my SSPX mission, during Low Mass, the Confiteor is said 3 times: first by the priest, then by the server, and later (after the priest has consumed the Precious Blood), the server solemnly bows and says the Confiteor. How does Fr. Lebrun explain why this is done?

    So interesting…. I read that the gradual has other roots too. Tomasi and the venerable Bede : both describe the original psalms that the gradual comes from as “Songs of Ascension” or “Progress Songs” describing the progress of a soul. An ancient Jewish view is that Psalm 119 was the first of 15 steps described as being used in procession to the Temple leading to the great portal, whilst the most ancient Christian tradition posits that they were ancient pilgrimage songs for going up to the Temple - I love to imagine the holy family singing these pilgrimage psalms with the boy Jesus….
    In fact the commentary describes the recitation of the 15 “ Gradual Psalms” as a “ favourite private devotion of our Catholic forefathers…”

    I love everything you guys do. I have a question though, that bothers me to no end. The SSPX chapel I've been attending for years now, I've seen maybe, maybe 5 High Masses. It's ALWAYS Low Mass. Even Easter Mass is a low Mass. I'm grateful for SSPX but shouldn't Low Mass be the exception and not the rule? Especially for Easter Sunday?

    • @SSPX
      @SSPX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That may be a question for the SSPX priest who cares for that Mission. I would say, as an SSPX priest, that in the small chapels it can be challenging to have enough competent people for choir, (organ), serving and sacristy to have a regular High Mass. But generally, yes you're right. Sometimes it becomes a vicious circle - the choir struggles, so the musical people ditch and go and sing with the diocesan Latin Mass choir, and so the SSPX choir never gets better. That is why we need the people who grasp the principles of our fight to be generous and consistent and try to build with the SSPX, even if it is (short-term) artistically less appealing than going to another Latin Mass. If you are musical, have you volunteered with the choir? :) In Christ, Fr. P. Franks

    Father mentioned that the memento of the living is not necessarily the person the priest is offering this specific Mass for. Is there a point within the Mass where he directs that intention or is that something he does outside of the rite?
    Great series, thank you!

    • @SSPX
      @SSPX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no specific point in the rite for that - it is normally done before the Mass itself, for instance, once the priest vests, but it could be done at any time before the consecration of the chalice.

    Lord Jesus didnt tell what way we use in the mass, because it has to preserve for this end time. Same when John was about to write what he had seen in the vision, but the angel asked him.not to write it down what he had seen. So that part will be preserve for the future and that future is now !!!! In this last generation of human race!!!!. Now we can distinguish in the present life of our faith. The tradition or this.modern ways????? For me, we have to bring the traditional way of the mass. It is the way of how we purify truly our soul from.within us. Tradition is a way that works from within our inner true being!!!! True reverence before our True Lord Jesus Christ in receiving Him in the Holy Communion. Xxx

    • @Polack21

      The logic behind using '62 instead of earlier versions is regarding the limits of self defense. The Society settled on '62 because it is considered the last acceptable version, not because it is the ideal version. The Church crisis is like an attack on the Faith, but even though an attacker may deserve a pummeling the victim can only do the minimum required for self-preservation and let a proper authority serve real justice later.The SSPX is not sedevacantist, meaning a degree of loyalty still needs to be demonstrated to the current hierarchy in Rome, and settling on the inferior (but still acceptable) '62 instead of re-adopting, say, pre-55' is the Society's way on doing that. At least that's my understanding.

      Jane Cormier. The Latin Mass is beautiful because it is universal, that is, small “c” catholic, a @dead@ language. The Wired’s will Vice the same, no meanings will change. Think of how vastly the word “gay” has changed over the years. A friend of ours loved her name. She could introduce herself by saying, “Hello, I’m Gay.” Today she’d be embarrassed .

    Have you read: "How Christ Said the First Mass?" It almost sounds like you're saying that Jesus consecrated bread and wine and then left it for the apostles to figure out the rest. Kind of sounds like the heresy of Deism. So disappointing. That is the same mindset as the fine fellows who decided to give us a "New Mass."

    Schismatics. Love of a Mass isn't love of Jesus. The Council of Trent is from the 1500 which means many ceremonies are far older. Get out and go act like Jesus and stop spending money on buildings. Invest in people's lives. Not in material things.

    • @St_AngusYoung

      How are they schismatic? Present facts and proof rather than slander. You come across like a arrogant protestant.

  • @rangers94ism

    I have something against the Latin Mass. There is so much singing and music. Why? I used to be Protestant and I played music there until they told me that I was causing people to sin by dating a non-Christian. I hate Christian music. It's so fake and yet when I watched a Latin Mass all there was was music. I could go to certain Novas Ordo Mass' with zero music. That is so appealing to me. It always will be.
    So, in my opinion, Gregory the Great wasted his time creating nonsense for no reason.
    There's another problem that i have with the Latin Mass. Why is it that the congregation never actually receives the Holy Eucharist? How is this a blessed event if the receiving never occurs? Once again, this huge moment occurs at every Novas Ordo Mass. In conclusion, the Novas Ordo is clearly superior. Sorry, but the Latin Mass sounds like an absolute waste of time.
