    Let me know what you guys think of the camera and mic setup. I'm still working the kinks out .
    Here are links to the oil and filter that I used:
    Oil (best price I've found): bit.ly/3AQcvEy
    Filter: amzn.to/2UOw6Av
    Oil Filter Cap: amzn.to/2UPyrLm

      You probably already figured it out but if you use LINEAR on the gopro it gets rid of the fisheye effect. It also reduces your FOV obviously. I've got a new Bison Diesel. I don't think I'll wait until the oil life is mostly gone. I don't like the idea of the first oil an engine sees sitting in the engine for so long. It's so easy to change the oil just like my old S-10 ZR2 I had, there is no excuse to change it on time if not early.

    When i worked in a chrysler dealer, i was taught to open the catridge style filters so it would drain down the oil pan and then drain all the oil from the pan.

      If you don't do the filter first or let it sit for 15 minutes after turning off, you will be overfilling by over a quart and leaving used oil in the system.

    Always drain your filters before you pull your drain plug or drain them both at the same time if you do the filter after you will leave a considerable amount of dirty oil in your engine

    Outstanding vid! The only thing I can see to do differently is pop the new filter into the cap instead of the engine. Then insert the assembly and screw down. It's an easier method versus inserting the filter first by itself.

    Came through loud and clear. Remarkably, Walmart carries that oil in the store. My Colorado has 70K and so far only one engine code. The code was for O2 sensor rate of change too slow. I reset it and it never came back. I did screw up on a fuel filter change (did not tighten it all the way). One day on the way to work, the O-ring gave way. Luckily I noticed and just tightened it down.

    Good video thanks. Only recommendation is i would change the filter first then drain the oil pan. It if is like the TDI engines, oil is held in the filter housing then spills down to the pan when you remove the filter. Allow you to get a small extra amount of used oil out. How do you like the truck? I was going to get the diesel, but I am currently leaning toward the new ranger. Seems new diesels have to much of a problem not with the engine, but with the fuel and exhaust system since they are so complicated.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Next time I change it I'll drain the oil, leave the plug out, then remove the filter and see if I get any more oil that drains into the pan.
      So far I like the truck and don't regret it at all. I have had one issue with one of the things you mentioned. I'm going to shoot a video about it soon.
      I'm just not impressed by the Ranger. 1 engine choice, 2 cab options, it just seems like Ford isn't really trying. When they go out of their way to bring up the fact that the Ranger has steel bumpers, I feel like they are really trying to make the truck sound impressive when in reality they are selling a truck in North America that has been on sale everywhere else since 2011. Take the full size trucks they are all aluminium now. I was hoping the ranger would get the same treatment but, nope. Make them out of steel because that's how this ranger has been made since 2011. Don't get me started on the other products. I have a video on this topic if you haven't seen it. I'm a Ford person at heart but, this direction they are headed frustrates me as a Ford guy.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      A TURBO 4 gas engine is a maintenance nightmare - DIESEL in the GM barely revs and makes REAL torque. Good luck on that Turbo 4 with CAM CHAIN stretch along with the electrical issues....

      @@mecalpsha4473 Pretty much every manufacturer is making direct injection turbo 4 cylinder, Chevrolet new Silverado and Honda CTV etc. Chain stretch is a problem with Chevrolet Colorado gas models with no turbo. Check out South main Auto video. Unfortunately new cars are so high tech and have problems that we consumers need to be prepared for. Buying a used vehicle in the future will be a nightmare. The problem with the diesel, which I love diesels, is the super high tech exhaust systems under the car. The exhaust system will cost you several thousand dollars to repair. I have an 04 tdi with over 350, 000 miles and not opened the engine except for timing belt. I guarantee the silverado can not go 100, 000 miles without some repair to engine or exhaust. I have put off buying one all year. I have taken the mind set that though evoboost has some issues, it is the least of 2 evils. The Toyota truck is uncomfortable to me, and I have had bad luck with Toyotas, and lemon Law one a few years back.

Not because better but because they need to make mpg numbers, I statements here are, I like diesel, want a diesel, however with all the government crap on them they have to many problems and no with the engine. • @marcusmendoza9354

    With cartridge style filters I usually prefer to remove the filter first to allow the oil to drain down wards into the pain to drain the most oil possible from the engine, and also have you thought of deleting the truck ?

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as it keeps running correctly the emissions will stay intact.
      As far as removing the filter first. I literally just finished my second oil change today. If you attempt to remove the filter first, the oil filter chamber is filled with oil, literally to the brim. It's impossible to remove the filter without making a GIANT mess. Drain the oil out of the pan first. It's not worth the mess.

      Repair Geek I’ve always cracked it gave it a second to drain there is usually just a small puddle in the cartridge, and on the deleting thing the truck would last a lot longer and get better mpg‘s run cleaner and more efficiently in general cause you won’t be dumping sut in the engine and would gain a lot more power if you chose to use a higher power tune if you think about it there is less to go wrong with the truck without all the emissions

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How do you know the oil you're pouring in the housing or inside the filter is clean? Just because the oil you pour out of the jug looks clean that doesn't mean it is. A human eye cannot see a particle below about 40 microns. A good oil filter will filter particles as small as 10 or 25 microns (.00039-.00098 inches)
      I'm not saying you're wrong for doing what you're doing and I totally see the logic. You're just not going to hurt a motor by not pre-lubing an oil filter.

      The Colorado/Canyon as well as the Chevy Cruz diesel all require an oil that meets the Dexos 2 spec. Most of the "diesel" specific oils do not meet the Dexos 2 spec. I have a 2018 GMC Canyon and I use the same oil as Repair Geek because most of the Auto supply houses (Auto Zone etc.) are not stocking any oils that meet Dexos 2 spec... Note: Most Dexos 2 oils on the market are currently marketed under a Euro type oil as it has been in use in Europe and Asia for awhile now. That goes for oils from Valvoline, Mobile 1 and Castrol...

    Dexos 2 approval isn't enough. This is a VM Motori engine that requires the ACEA C3 spec to keep within manufacturer warranty. Liqui-Moly is (I'm quite sure) the OEM oil, but AMS Oil European also has the proper spec. Be careful Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge fans, read the bottle and it tells you "not for diesel engines". I suspect Pennzoil says the same, even though they all have the Dexos 2 rating. It's all about the additives being compatible with high soot combustion byproducts. Just some facts for thought.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dexos2 is GM's spec for diesel oil. My owner's manual specifically states if a Dexos2 oil is not available, to use ACEA C3. The dexos logo is trademarked so there may be oils on the market that meets the Dexos specification but, the manufacturer may not want to pay the licensing fee. My personal guess is dexos2 and C3 are the same specifications. One just has a trademark.

      I'm incredibly skeptical when somebody shows up with a bunch of half science. Here's the bottom line. you could put the worst crappy, non-dexos oil in this engine and it'll run a million miles. The oil industry has scammed us to the point of fear that we'll only use AEDCAIENTNTLSE/34.D.4.5499 spec oil in my moped....
      I ran race engines - the crappiest oil and the best oil had EXACTLY the same amount of particulates in it when we tested them. WE're talking bike engines running at red line for hundreds of laps.... so scam away.
