My headcannon has always been that BB’s darkness fruit is not just regular darkness, but darkness from the bottom of the sea. The fact that earthquakes are causing the levels to rise is very significant. Whatever BB’s third DF ends up being probably ties the whole thing together in a neat bow.

If we compare the Adam & Eve trees to Yggdrasil, and they connect the top world to the bottom world, which direction do the trees grow? Given this theory as context, let's say they definitely grow downward. So the roots of the Eve tree root into the sub layer below Fishman island and the Adam tree Elbaph, respectively. You put forth the process that these roots take part in, and let's add that the roots are broken down during the process, but continue growing simultaneously. If the growing of the roots exceeds the rate of consumption, then the pathways the roots take will enlarge, thus releasing more product(bubbles, etc). All that said brings me to the idea that it may be possible that Fishman Island is susceptible to being shh-whacked by a new knockup stream and/or volcanic eruption via the roots of Eve, and same for Elbaf. The general speculation around Fishman Island is that the red line will fall onto it, but with the info you have presented, it may be possible for the island to be knocked UP & through the Red line. If this happens, the entirety of the island will remain intact because of the strength of the atmospheric bubble surrounding it.
And if luffy and his crew are the ones that recommend letting this happen…. This might also solve the “ luffy destroys fish island “ issue we are having as well… it might not be the way it happens but… damn this theory lines up pretty damn well. Nice cooking

It was huge in our region when back in the 2000s :) The funny part is that we only got the dub version until the mugis get separated in Sabaody, so when I was a kid I thought that was the end of OP. That's quite a theory. It gives a better explanation for Eve and devil fruit than any I've heard. I'd like to add some fuel to your fire. If everything is absorbing pyrobrine, or plastic particles, and becoming more plastic, or resin-based... Rubber being made from resin, and a devil fruit user with power over that rubber makes Luffy a lot stronger than we're giving him credit for. The sea, the earth, and the air have plastic in them? No wonder he can manifest or manipulate whatever he wants. It's all part of his control over rubber(resin).
EDIT: I'll double down on that plastic theory and combine it with another. Luffy only going Giant Mode in and/or around clouds lends to the speculation that he's absorbing the pyrobrine(plastic) in them to increase his size, like a Logia. This would complete his mythical fruit's powerset because it's already been likened to a paramecia and called a zoan.

Jaya trees "absorbed" souls. New water could have come from the lost moons. Also devil fruit powers probably trump entropy so creating new land or water could be easy. Also continent pullers/ island fruit / pikas fruit might have helped in greenifying the middle world.
Also the idea of impel down potentially being a pyrobrine factory is hella disturbing.
So counter point to castles, it make sense to put them on hill for strategic purposes, especially with how brutal the world one piece

So, the clouds that make up sky islands aren't eternal, they eventually disappear

You are cooking. This is pretty compelling and even if a bunch of details are off, the idea of this happening before to such an apocalyptic degree feels right. Especially with the idea of the Dawn, of course a legend with that imagery would exist among a people who saw the sun go out.

I think this can also be supported by how there exists 2 calendar system in op too. The one that Robin used to talk about the history of Alabasta is called "Sky calendar". The one the world uses right now is the "Sea Circle calendar" that was implemented 1524 years ago (according to Artur).
What i gather from this is that in older times the ppl on the current ground level used the Sky/Heaven calendar because it literally marks the age of living on the clouds compared to where they were on the lower level. But then the world slowly became too covered in water, maybe creating big oceans that changes their way of life so drastically from before. Maybe it justifies marking a new page in history by making a new calendar system, with the ocean in its name rather than the sky, seeing as now they no longer have anything else to be above of anymore.
But brooks soul has connections to the afterlife/hell and it is connected to ice and cold

In norse mythology the world tree Yggdrasil connects the nine world. It has already been speculated that one could go to sky islands from Elbaf but if there js another world bellow, it would be accessible from Elbaf as well. Plus in Ragnarok " The sun will be darkened, the stars will vanish, and the earth will sink into the sea. ".

This is an interesting theory. It reminds me of stories told in many Native American cultures, wherein the world is said to have began on the surface like in your theory, but after the emergence of dark wizards who conjured up animals made from demon fire, the pure hearted ones fled up giant vines, through holes in the clouds called Sepapu. Similar to your theory, our world is thought to exist on clouds floating atop the old world. The Spider mother closed these holes in the sky, but at the end of times it was said that the Sepapu would open again and thh pure hearted ones would have to confront the dark wizards trapped below and reclaim the surface. So the entire ordeal was like a strategic retreat.
Perhaps the story of One Piece takes some inspiration from here. It might also be no coincidence that the Sky Jayans who resisted Enel resembled Native American warriors.

One of the coolest reveals in the series is that the landmass they all live on is actually a bunch of super-massive alien coral and the original earth and oceans are buried underneath it. For most of the series you're led to believe they live on a series-unique planet and suddenly they hit you with the revelation that the earth as we know it was hidden over 5000 years prior to the current events of the series and we're watching effectivelya post-apocalyptic series. The part about the world being built on top of sky islands got me thinking about it. And the idea that the ancient kingdom and much of the previous world of One Piece is submerged underwater.
I think you read the knock up stream diagram wrong, it's a cavity that sucks in water from directly below where the knock up stream will be with the whirlpool and shoots it out through a small opening, I don't think enies lobby is related to it because it looks like a completely different thing
Cavities dont suck in water, they simply fill and normalize
@JoyBoyTheories "sucking in water" wasn't really the right phrase I meant because I didn't have a better one, but true. The same thing happens if you unplug a drain though, the water would create a whirlpool. The cavity would just do that before shooting the boiling water into the sky.
There was a whirlpool before the knock up stream iirc, I believe that's where the water comes from, not enies lobby, I don't know what would be unplugging the hole though.
@Caramomi it almost works, but the knockupstream occurs in different locations. If there were multiples holes that never could properly fill, then there would be a constant whirlpool where the rest of jaya is supposed to be

Oda is a mad lad; The anime of Ruroni Kenshin was being animated at around the same time as Loki Ragnarok so I imagine the Mangas were from around the same time. As I believe Oda helped on Kenshin I could see him wanting to add references to anime or manga of a similar time frame.
