If you feel like you've been Mitch Slapped with this song then you should listen to their live performance of Aha.

Yes they did an injustice to Kevin by adding the “unneeded” drums. He can cover it all

  • @corelli2

Avi will always be missed but Matt is an absolute star and I love the creamy sound in his voice. Kevin is the beat boxer and he has so many talents including playing cello, saxophone and speaks 6 languages including Mandarin Chinese! The drums that were on stage were a demand by the Kimmel producers and were not appreciated. The studio version is just with Kevin and his talents are really on display. And yes, it’s Kirstie. Together with Mitch, they are the masters of the change.

They could have gone with a deeper bass, but the tone of his voice, the soul, the passion, blends so seamlessly, and the direction they have taken is nothing short of miraculous for their short 10 year history. I say short because I see them together for many years to come!!

Pentaholics have seen the original so many times that we can see their faces in our heads even when it's blurred or covered. You're stronger than I am because I became a Pentaholic instantly the first time I heard/saw one of their songs ("Mary, Did You Know?")
Usually by the time I've seen these reactions there are already hundreds of comments answering all your questions so I try to avoid repeating them. This is the first time I got in early... we will see if I'm the first.
"Chris" is really Kevin. You got the first sound right on it.
"Hallelujah" was a few years before "The Sound of Silence," so Avi is the bass that left. The new bass is Matt. No doubt Avi is one-of-a-kind, but Matt is superb as well. They're voices are different, yet both are wonderful and flawlessly complement the other four..
Yes, that was indeed Kirstie. Both she and Mitch completely change they're look frequently, but they've been there all along.

  • @annmc3878

I love both Avi and Matt. They are different.
    We the Pentaholics welcome you.
Pentatonix won the Sing Off season 3 and Homefree won season 4.
Pentatonix paved the way and showed how they could make a career out of a cappella.
Mitch does some raps in certain songs, like “Problem”. Or you can expand out into their side projects. Scott and Mitch had a side project call Superfruit. They did a hilarious Hip Hop goes Broadway.
Enjoy your journey. You might want to react to the 3 song that PTX won Grammies for: Daft Punk Medley, Dance if the Sugar Plum Fairies, and Jolene with Dolly Parton.

  • @alicegibson685

My post from their last video....The tall blonde, 1 st guy singing is Scott, he is a baritone but has a huge range and sings bass when the bass is singing a solo part. Second guy with log dark hair is Avi, the bass. he left the group in 2017 for family health reasons. The ONLY one to have left the group. The female, mezzo soprano, is Kirsten or Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty). She changes looks and hair color a lot. The guy with hat, Mitch, is a high tenor and has the voice of an angel, also changes looks ALOT. If you have to ask is that Mitch, it is. The beatboxer is Kevin, also plays cello. He plays cello in a handful of songs. The new bass that started in 2017 (so, not really new is Matt. It is all their voices unless you see an instrument. They on ocassion have collabed with people who have had instruments, again you will see the instruemnts if used. The "trio" Mitch, Scott and Kirstie went to high school together They put the group together in 2011 to be on the show on the sing off and found Kevin and Avi. They met the day before auditions and went on to win. They won $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony, who then a week later after they moved to LA, dropped them because they said a capella would never be popular. They decided to do it on their own on TH-cam and kicked ass. Eventually picked up by another label. Have since won 3 grammys and have not looked back. LOL there ya go.

  • @berlyn3014
    @berlyn3014 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

It's actually a newer performance. Avi left the group on good terms and Matt took his place. Kirstie (Kirstin) and Mitch both change their looks constantly but don't be fooled Avi leaving is the only change since the beginning. The beat boxer's name is Kevin but you did pretty good remembering what you did for a new reactor. As for the stuff you have to do to keep the the video up, do whatever you need to do. Most Pentaholics are used to all the hoops reactors have to jump through to keep videos from being taken down. Thanks for reacting and keep up the good work.

Kevin aka KO is unreal. His beat boxing is musical not just noise and sounds exactly like percussion. Just so ya know he invented celloboxing where he plays the cello and beat boxes at the same time. His list of talents is amazing. PTX really opened the door for groups like Home Free and Voice play. Acapella was very niche and not all that popular before PTX reinvented it. P.S. they currently have over 5 BILLION views on TH-cam. Much love and keep on keepin on J.

I am really enjoying your reactions; I won't correct all your mistakes cuz everybody else will plus you deserve a break, being so new to them. And I'm sure most of us are just thrilled at your reactions and appreciation for this oh-so-special group! That beautiful woman is Kirstie, she and Mitch change looks A LOT from video to video. People often don't recognize them. There has only been one lineup change, when AVI left. SOS is much newer than Hallelujah. Avi left in 2017 so this is MATT who is more a deep Baritone, still a fabulous singer. Kirsten's vibrato is immensely impressive, most notable on "Amazing Grace". My absolute favorites include ''Imagine' IMHO the best video for its interpretation of the song which makes me tear up at the end even after having seen it 100 times easily. You will get many suggestions and reality is they don't do anything that isn't astonishing. Pick anything, cover, original, new, old you'll be happy.

Personally I like the studio version of this one better. The added drums drown out Kevin’s beatboxing here. I would highly suggest their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody that even Brian May from Queen recommended. Their Daft Punk Medley won them their first Grammy.
Avi left in 2017 on good terms due to personal reasons (Mom’s health & the demands the touring was taking). Matt Sallee replaced him & while not a basso profundo, like Avi, he brings a different flavor to the group. I like them both & catch Avi on his solo stuff. Only group change is the bass change. The others just change their looks alot. Thanks for the reactions. I’ll follow this a capella journey.

My friend, you have entered quite the rabbit hole. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie are the original members. They found KEVIN, the beatboxed and cello player, on a video, and Avi was introduced to them by a friend. They were together from 2011-2017, when Avi Kaplan left and started a solo career. Matt Sallee was added several weeks later to PTX. Lots of great songs, Christmas albums (Carol of the Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Come All Ye Faithful are my faves). My favorite original by them is Love Again; it'll blow you're mind! Avi's solo song Change On The Rise is amazing, to say the least. Yeah, you've got some catching up to do.✌

I enjoyed your reaction and am impressed that you already have most of their names right. Yes that was Kirsty singing and you will notice she changes her look frequently as does Mitch. Matt was singing Bass here instead of Avi--different styles but very good also. When Avi left, I was heartbroken and it took a while for me to warm up to Matt but I fell in love with him after I saw him take the lead in "Your A Mean One Mr Grinch". Since you are slowly becoming a "Pentafry", you would really enjoy Home Free's cover of "Ring Of Fire" with Avi Kaplan singing with them (they are all friends). Also check out Avi's solo "Change On The Rise". Seems to me that you had more of a "Kirsty Slap" in this one so you would probably love her lead in their cover of "Say Something" (also shows more of Kevin and Avi's talent).

I absolutely LOVE Home Free so I'm not saying this to disparage them. The simple reason it's harder to post Pentatonix videos is because they are a lot more famous. The have won 3 Grammy Awards, have their own Christmas specials on TV, they do guest appearances on lots of talk shows especially around the Holidays and so on, so they are more widely known. By the way their Christmas music is out of this world and since it's that time of year maybe you'll do some. One of their Grammy Awards was for the Christmas favorite "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy"

Super reaction. You've a great attitude. Avi was my fav and he was with the band in their early years. During the six years he was with them they won 3 Grammy awards. Avi is now showing off his pipes solo. He's several songs you can check out. I would suggest Change on the Rise and First place I go. All are amazing. Matt and Avi are both super. Their singing styles are different though. Avi blew out speakers and Matt's sound is more baritone range and chill. The band's arranger, Ben Bram, remarked that the band had to make adjustments when Matt came onboard. Cant wait to see more PTX!!!

This is newer, Avi was their original bass and left after 7 years to pursue a solo career and spend more time with family and friends. Matt is their new bass singer. The remaining members are Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado, Scott Hoying(lead tenor/baritone, the incredible Mitch Grassi as their high tenor/countertenor, and Kevin ""K.O" Olusola their beatbody percussionist/ tenor.

Hi hon. Avi is the original. He stepped down after 6yrs. You are so right, Avi cannot be beat. Kirsty had some work done. That is why she looks so different. Chris is really Kevin, and the new guy is Matt. Keep up the good work

It's interesting how some people say "no disrespect" right before they knowingly say something disrespetful. I hate that. Since Avi was not in this video, there was no need for you to be disrespectful for no reason.

Kirstie does an incredible performance with "Voctave" (Disney Love Medley, I think it's called) an 11 -person a capella group that does a lot of Disney and movie song covers (they do a purely "instrumental" -cover of movie soundtracks which blew my mind)... and I fell in love that group with their "Disney Princess Medley"
The a capella -rabbit hole is DEEP ... but it's an amazing, beautiful journey

I've enjoyed your quite open reactions to the two PTX videos you've watched so far. The PTX videos most often recommended to new reactors are the two you've watched, plus the Daft Punk medley (Grammy award) and Bohemian Rhapsody (actually linked to by Brian May from Queen with the word "enjoy" on his page). After that the path can branch in ANY direction. "Imagine" is massively popular and very meaningful. "Amazing Grace" was, until "The Prayer" came our recently, the highest ranked among the religious pieces, along with "Mary, Did You Know?" "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (another Grammy) is an instrumental song performed by a group without instruments and I HIGHLY recommend it if you like feeling stunned.
For pure fun, there's "Making Christmas," "My Favorite Things" and "Come Along." For original music, there's an early one, "Love Again," which is rather occult looking, and their album "The Lucky Ones" that they released at the end of 2020 is flat-out excellent, every track, with or without video.
I can promise that, with very few exceptions, you'll be blown away by any choice you make. (The exceptions will be because you don't care for the genre, not because they aren't superb)

They did some live Christmas stuff on I heart radio. It is wonderful stuff.
Also, there is a TikTok compilation of them singing snippets of songs in stairwells.
Most people that heard Avi first, have a hard time resigning to Matt, but he has brought a different dynamic. Not better, just different.
Kirsten and Mitch change looks often, but Matt is the only new person.
PTX does all different genres. Have fun on this journey.
Oh, another fun live is the Popspring performance. 3 original songs and an evolution song.
    Again, have fun!

Pentaholics understand about the copyright issues. Ignore the crabby butts. Chris = Kevin, the beatboxer. Yes, that was Kirstie. Matt and Avi have different tones and bring different elements to the table. There is debate over who is ‘better’, but I think of it as different chapters of a great book. But this performance didn’t capture the fullness of sound like the official video to give you a fair chance to hear what Matt can do.

Sooooo many - MANY - more fabulous performances from Pentatonix. Enjoy! Please do their Daft Punk - It's spectacularly different from these first two ( I challenge you to not dance in your chair! ) & Avi's Bass is up there (down there?) with a handful of the best on the planet & goes straight through to the bone marrow. SInce Avi left to pursue his solo career Matt brings in a great Bass, Baritone and Tenor! And Mitch... Ah...Mitch. A 1 : 7 Billion - 'stop you in your tracks' voice of rare beauty. Kirsten's mezzo-soprano is so gorgeous also and Kevin! Not 'just' a 'master class' Beat Boxer - but Classical Cellist and so much more. You seriously need a 2nd Channel just to BEGIN to explore Kevins multiple talents. The second Bass line you noticed in Halleluja is Scott. Aside from the stellar quality of their artistry - the most impressive thing about Pentatonix is how they work together to share the Lead Vocals' and make each other's individual talent absolutely Shine!
    So....
Knowing what awe inspiringly great musicians and their music can do ( stuff like: drop your mouth open - break out in goosebumps - tear up - forget to breath etc. & all within the one song ) perhaps it's time to also 'discover' Dimash? Dimash does all that - and more.
    # Fair Warning: with Dimash > First time Reactors also tend to find their thoughts stumbling around like dazed and drunken bees in their brain case - trying to remember how to string a sentence together. Eventually most find just one word - and that word is "WOW!" Don't worry - it's not a permanent effect. After the first listen Reactors generally find there's not enough words in the dictionary ( any dictionary - he sings in several languages) to describe Dimash. So - if you decide to listen to Dimash - get a seat belt fixed to that chair and buckle up! Enjoy. :) Ps. Start with SOS @ Slavic Bazaar. Cheers L

Avi Kaplan (original bass) left in 2017 on good terms for personal reasons. Matt Sallee (current bass) joined later in 2017. That's the only change in the lineup. Avi can go incredibly deep and has own out speakers. Matt has IMHO a richer, buttery smooth tone. And Kevin's beatboxing is insane. Matt and Kevin are ON FIRE in New Rules x Are You That Somebody and also in the original Coffee in Bed. And Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) and Mitch change their looks all the time! Enjoying your PTX reactions... Keep 'em coming! 😅 🤗

Kirstin, Scott, Mitch and KEVIN (the beat boxer) are all original members of the group as was Avi until he left the group, I believe, in 2013. Matt replaced Avi and is the newest member.
To bad you didn't react to their official video of this. It's a cleaner vocal to listen to and it helps to support them when you watch videos from their official channel.

😊👉It's not K(r)istie its K(i)rstie or Kirsten! She changes her look A LOT! she sings mezzo soprano, alto
👉Scott (tall blonde) is tbe baritone and covets bass when the (Avi or Matt) have a singing lead, Scotts range is IMPRESSIVE! He hits falsettos is EXTREMELY soulful and is the KING of riffs and runs!!
👉Mitch is the counter tenor HE CHANGES HIS LOOK A LOT!!
👉Kevin is the INCREDIBLE beatboxer with a GORGEOUS tenor voice and plays cello while beatboxing aka cello-boxing.
👉Matt is the bass he replaced Avi ( Ah-vee) who left on good terms with the group in late 2017.
    👉Matt is the bass, baritone
👉👉Avi sings bass/ basso profundo, baritone, overtone
😄Scott, Kirstie and Mitch ate childhood friends from Texas.

The more you listen to PTX, the more you'll be able to pick out each one's voice! And it Kevin who beat boxes.
I suggest you listen to Mad World...so good! Some Pentaholics are kind of rabid when it comes to getting everything right, but mostly, we're patient and we can tell with everyone who gets Mitch slapped, the exact moment, because it shows the face..
Bohemian Rhapsody when mitch is on the couch "being the guitar", is incredible!! Dive in, and dive deep....

  • @kegginstructure
    @kegginstructure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

One thing about PTX "live" performances is that they will closely match the studio performances most of the time. The reason is that PTX refuses to release ANY studio track unless it is something they can also do live. Mitch is a rarity - a counter-tenor, the highest recognized male voice range. And Kevin is the beat-boxer, not "Chris." Kirsten and Mitch like to change up appearance from one video to the next so that WAS Kirsten. The break between Avi and Matt occurred in 2017 when Avi had to drop out (amicably) due to family illness issues. He found Matt as his replacement. "Hallelujah" was pre-2017, "Sound of Silence" was later. Scott and Kevin usually don't change much, and Matt so far hasn't played with his appearance. PTX does not use drums - they don't need them. But union rules sometimes DO require them. Such rules were not written for a capella groups. If you listen to the studio version, you would hear how much they don't need drums.

I have enjoyed your two Pentatonix reactions so much and am looking forward to more.
In term of their live recordings, one of their earlier ones still blows me away-“Somebody That I Used to Know”.
I’m supposing that with even many of the most amazing singers or groups, a little pitch correction has to be made in the studio. But all five of the Pentatonix members have impeccable pitch, so their live recordings are generally every bit as good as their fully-produced videos.

Hi. Avi left in 2017 and Matt replaced him so it's a newer video as Matt the current bass is in the group, (singing straight after Mitch). Also notice as Matt sings his verse Scott covers the bass as usual. Matt is the ONLY new member since the groups inception so it is ALWAYS Kirstie and Mitch despite how they may appear. ALSO, it's not Chris or Kriss.... it's Kevin the beatboxer! Thanks for the reactions. (Home Free and Voiceplay don't have copyright issues with claims. I believe it is because they are either independant and/or release their own music).
