One comparison I've heard and agree with is this: Simon and Garfunkel warned us about where the world was headed. Disturbed is angry that we didn't heed the warning. And Pentatonix says "It isn't too late yet; we can still turn it around."
Is Pentatonix right? I don't know; I hope so. The one thing I'm certain of is that if we don't try, we lose. And if we can't turn it around? Well, then, at least I'll go down fighting to keep my planet habitable.

They did an original song called Thank You on their Christmas album in 2020 during Covid.
It is a very emotional song that was perfect for that year. I absolutely ugly cried when I first heard it. I did not lose anyone to Covid that year, I was still employed, (actually working like crazy running a grocery store), did not lose any employees to the disease so I was pretty unaffected by all of that compared to many people. So many people lost a lot that year so it was just emotional.
After that video came out a someone made a fan video with that song playing in the background. It showed pictures of many people thanking Pentatonix for being a musical light during that terrible year. They are better than we deserve.

The chances of this group coming together was so infinitesimally small that only the powers that be in the universe could have made it happen. I’m glad they decided to do that to allow us mere mortals to have something to brighten our days. Three kids (Scott, Mitch, Kirstie) meet as children who love to sing and decide to keep singing together in school and local theater. As a side note, can you imagine trying to keep those three reigned in in high school choir? Scott, Mitch and Kirstie say that she did help them learn to blend better. They become life-long friends.
Scott befriends Ben Bram who helps Scott get on The Sing Off. Ben introduces Scott to Avi. Scott talks Kevin into giving up med school at Yale and joining four strangers to compete on The Sing Off. They actually win the show. Sony drops them so they decide to start building their Pentaholic following on You Tube. Viral videos, and great music follows, and they get resigned to Sony. Avi decides to leave the group and they find another great bass in Matt. While Matt is not Avi, he is still excellent and I think he blends even better with the other members of PTX.
If anything happens differently along that path Pentatonix does not exist, and the world is a lesser place.

To have your minds blown by Mitch (counter-tenor), Matt (Bass) & Kevin (Beatboxer, Tenor, and World Class Cellist) check out "Joyful Joyful" Live from the Evergreen Experience and pay close attention to the last note which Matt hits. Another must see is their version of John Lennon's "Imagine" where they show the traits they share (when they pass shared cards) and their differences (when they flip their cards), and then who they truly are.

Mitch and Scott, who recently married his longtime love, Mark, are both gay. I hope that doesn't lessen your respect for their talents, ALL the members of Pentatonix are good, loving people. Just FYI. Also, there is a YT video of PTX performing live in Florida with anti-gay protesters outside, screaming profanities at Mitch and Scott, including that they will go to hell. Mitch sang even louder and prouder during the performance. Poor Scott was so upset, his voice cracked They all are perfectionists, and to witness Scott lose his confidence and voice is heartbreaking. He eventually recovered his voice. Hate has NO place in this world, especially when it is directed at such humble, sweet human beings, I hope you will agree.

    • @RubyGB
      @RubyGB 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

Yes, of the original group Mitch & Scott are gay but were both raised in the Christian faith and are openly believers (remember Luke 6:37 and James 4:12), Avi is Jewish, and Kirstie is Catholic. When they asked Kevin to join the group, he explained that his faith (he is a Seventh Day Adventist) does not allow him to perform from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday (so no Friday night performances). Mitch, Scott, Avi, and Kirstie then voted unanimously to agree to no Friday night performances so Kevin could join the group and not compromise his religious beliefs. Matt, who joined after Avi left, is also a strong Christian believer and the son of a church music minister.

@@RubyGB Cool, but most Pentaholics know all this already. What some may not know is that often those who drape themselves in the Christian faith like these two do, use it to criticize others, especially those of a different sexual orientation, saying they just "fear for their souls." I'm really curious how these two would feel knowing two members of PTX are openly gay, rightfully proud, and openly celebrate who they are...as do their millions of fans. I'm not interested in what another fan believes, because if you are a fan, you love these wonderful people, their talents, and the positivity they bring to the world. Period.

SPEAK! For me, none of the BS that some Christians have projected towards Scott and Mitch about being gay matters because I know that the REAL God loves them no less than he loves everyone else. We are all God's children. And if God loves the pedophiles, whores and murderers, I'm sure that he loves Mitch and Scott equally. Period.

Pretty sure they had to beam him over from their home world LOL. Their original "Happy Now" is one of the most uplifting songs I know of, by mid point you will be smiling, it can't be helped.PS: Their Christmas music, all 6.5 hours of it, is MAGICAL. "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", you will never hear that song the same again.

I recommend comparing PTX's, Home Free's and Voctave's (featuring Mark Lowry original artist) versions of "Mary Did You Know" for three quite different but stunning performances that are all very respectful of the source material. Mark Lowry's sustained high note doubles down on a Mitch Slap.
For those who are unfamiliar with the song, it arose from Mark Lowry thinking what he would ask Mary about the birth of Jesus if they could sit together over a cup of tea.

If you don't already know, the original version of this song came out in the early 60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Simon was only 19ish when he wrote this masterpiece. Now listen to Disturbed's version, the official video. It is stunning and made me REALLY listen to the lyrics and what they were conveying. The video itself is telling a story. I've probably listened to their version through reactions hundreds of times. I'm so glad to see christian reactors. I am a deacon and love all types of music. I just don't appreciate musicians using foul language to express a thought. I find that both unappealing and shows a laziness to find other words to explain their thoughts. A very sweet christain couple reacts to a music group and loves their voices and music so far. Then what happens, people need to throw the groups sexuality in to it! What does that have to do with their voices? It's ike you want to ether create issues or get them to bow to their beliefs. Then cry about division. It is sad!! Don't want division? Stop trying to make it! This is about music! Not who they are sleeping with or married too! Just my opinion.

Yawl, need to check out their (behind the scenes), the making of “Evergreen”, “Evergreen” is one of their Christmas Albums, it was nominated for a Grammy.
It would’ve been their 4th had they won, and most believe they should’ve won it…they’ve added 8 new songs (24-31) to their newly released “Greatest Christmas Hits” album, all are worth listening to-plus they have a fun “Nightmare Before Christmas” cover that’s well worth a watch around Halloween time.
Their is also their original song “Thank You” written by Scott, where he plays the piano (first time) and Kevin (KO) plays his cello w/Mitch, Kirstie and Matt all blending to making it super moving, it’s a Thanksgiving/but more Christmas kinda feel to it-well worth a listen too! So many great tunes and so little time!
On their “Christmas around the world” album, yawl should definitely listen to “tracks” (4 African beat & Chior, 5 folk/Country feel,, 10 new age sung buy Mitch and 12 the harmonies will make your soul ascend, w/tears & goose bumps! ), those are a few of my most favorites, and there are “music videos” to watch for tracks (1, 6 and 11).
You should check out their live Cracker-barrel performance of “Evergreen” from their (Evergreen) album…it’s a song written for their mothers. It’s such a beautiful tribute!
Yawl should also check out/watch their live performance of “Joyful, Joyful” from their evergreen concert, it’s amazing!
There are so many to list, but these are some definite songs to add to your list to listen to:-)

If you haven’t reacted to Amazing Grace, you need to listen. I’m pretty much to the point where I cry, every time. Need a good cry? Something to get you going? Pentatonix! I believe everything comes from God, especially this group! Love Love ♥️

For the next PTX reaction I suggest " Can You Feel The Love Tonight ". The song from The Lion King. They do an amazing performance. Thanks.

Pentatonix eats Simon and Garfunkels version and defecates Disturbed version. Epic

You can see the PTX support for the LGBTQ+ community (as well as for tolerance generally) in their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine." In my view, one reactor said it best: "Mitch has an angel in his throat."

I'm surprised that YOU were surprised by "two black guys." I checked your site, and you have listened to 5 PTX songs (including this one). Four of the Five have both Kevin (percussion and occasional cello) and Matt (bass singer since 2017). Only ONE of the songs you listened to has the original bass singer (Avi Kaplan). Having said that, It's even MORE interesting that it seems important. Be well!

I love you guys, I love your channel, and I LOVE your faith and conviction…as much as I hear you reference to our Lord knowing that some prayers need NOT be answered, you might wish to check out a Garth Brooks song from the ‘80’s called “Unanswered Prayers”…I would surely love to donate to you guys, your page, and your ministry, but as a disabled vet, my accounts are controlled by someone else

Ok, fellow Christians, you are now Pentaholics! Welcome. While this may not be WHY this song was written, I find some Christian parallels. During Mitchs part, he says he was blinded. Wasn't Peter blinded for 3 days on the road to Damascus? During Kirsties part, she is pleading to be heard. Isn't that the story of the apostles? Incidentally, Kirstie, Matt, and Kevin are devout Christians.

It’s a matter of taste. To me, Matt’s warm voice fits the band better. I don’t mind fans liking Avi better than Matt, but state it as a preference or opinion and not as a cold hard fact.
