The Next Level for Overland Tents? (Overlanding at 39 weeks Pregnant Pt. 1)

- Our family is just a few days away from being a family of four, sounds like a perfect time to go on an overnight trip to Bend Oregon. Right? We needed to pick up our new roof top tent from Free Spirit Recreation in time for the North West Overland Rally so we packed up the family in the Tacoma with the M1101a1 trailer in tow and headed out to meet with the guys at Free Spirit Recreation to check out all the awesome tents they had in their show room. We ended up leaving with the massive High Country Tri Layer.

When I get out of the military, I'm totally doing this overlanding lifestyle. Just need to get rich like you. Or get sponsors. Lol. Btw, you should never ask a pregnant woman if she needs help. Do like Nike say, "Just Do It".
You have a great wife. I did the same thing with my wife. She continued camping and ATVing all through 6 pregnancies (boys). What a great time of life, enjoy it now because it passes all too quickly.

Nice setup. Especially like that it is on a trailer! So many people have their tent on their truck then suddenly have to go into town for emergency supplies (diapers) and they have to break everything down, but you can just unhook and go!

I’m 48 and when I was a kid in NYC every few months my family and our close friends would go camping my parents had three kids and so did the other family and to this day it was the best times of my life !!! Sharing vacations with others was always fun and memorable.. as I got older and got Married I never thought of going camping and I never realized my kids would have enjoyed it as much as I did .. it’s great seeing your family really enjoy your experiences .. also it’s great seeing you explain dealing with your son trying to sleep haha also are you nuts allowing your pregnant wife to talk you into camping lol that is cool also it’s great having a wife that enjoys camping ... you have s new subscriber keep up the cool videos

We kind of had to do the same thing with one of our kiddos when they were little. We found that if we flat wore him out, all was good. Like picking up pine cones around camp, to seeing how many times he could run around the truck, picnic table or tent while we cheered him on. Even had to resort to a walk in the deep dry sand at the sand dunes to get this little turkey puckered out. However, once he was done it was lights out till morning.
I tough my girls how tow track animals and survival skills and went on many hikes in the woods to tire them out and played catch me if you can in the woods, talk about sleeping soundly

Yes it is!! I have a few questions about when you retro fitted your headlights and what wires of the DRL you tapped into(since there are 3) so that the halos would blink with the DRL

Sweet rtt. That has tons of room which is cool. I'm thinking I want a hardshell rtt as it fits my needs better. I like your choice though it looks really good and I'm sure it will serve your family well.

Those guys at gofsr are awesome! Our house is about 30 minutes from Bend so it's real convenient 👍..I haven't picked up my tent yet..but soon! The canopy, bedslide and prinsu racks..then add the tent...I'll be good to go!

Hey, love your content. Your video's have helped me with a few decisions I have made with my truck. I am looking at a lot of RTT's right now and the Free Spirit is in my top three. I watched some other reviews on this RTT and one guy was having issues with the stabilization poles. As soon as he put weight down on the pole it would drop down to the next hole. Have you had any issues like this? Any new findings or issues with the RRT now that you have had it for several months? What is the coldest temp you have had it out in with the tri-layer? Thank you in advance.

i realize this is an older video, but I have a question. I just bought the 55 version of this and was wondering, on your tent, does the outer frame of the tent make contact with the bars of your roof rack or do the extruded aluminum bars under the tent that run front to back ( vehicle direction) that you clamp to your roof rack hold the frame just a bit off the bars on your rack? if the frame doesnt make contact, how much space do you think is between the frame of the tent and the bars of your rack? thanks man, Im super stoked to get mine! thanks man !
The design reminds me alot of the IKamper RTT. How are they different? I'm stuck between the two.

I'm thinking perhaps one of those tents might work on top of my rack, only issue being the rack is on top of the canopy, on a lifted truck . . . I'll have to contact those guys and explore any options or suggestions they might have

Hi Max just had A question for you? Did your truck ever leak on the driver side floor? I have A 2017 Tacoma trd offroad that has a sunroof like yours dose. I have A leak coming behind the kick panel on the driver side. Just wondering?

Im very jealous of your new RTT. Im trying to get a small off road trailer so i can get one too! Also, i couldn't help but notice your taco is down-shifting a lot...have you thought about regearing it for the bigger tires to help reduce that? I put 33's on my FJ Cruiser and will be getting it regeared since its tries to downshift a lot on the highway. Just a thought....keep up the awesome work brother!
I ha e the sport and I'm running 33×12.5 and I just keep it in 4th on the freeway keep it at about 2800rpm
You shouldn’t have to regear for 33s. I’m currently running 34s on my FJ and a lot of weight (bumper, skids, roof rack && RTT) and I’ll feel it on uphills but otherwise 35s is where you should definitely start considering it
What mounts do you use for your high lift jack that goes at the front of the bed behind the rear window?
would be cool is they could have an upgrade kit to change the ladder into steps as an option.
