    Oh lord, when I saw that price tag 😅 I came to this video bc I just picked one of these up at a flea market for 50€, I guess that means the price will be worth it even if it needs serious repairs or something! Thanks for the video!

      That may be the deal of the century. The only things it will possibly need is cleaned and oiled, and maybe new belts if the old ones are stiff and non-pliable. Well done. 😎👍

      @@billmaguire6216 sure they’re available but I don’t install them as they are poorly made and are very noisy.
      I would tell my customers that, and they would say “Oh my gosh, I didn’t think it would be THAT NOISY”.
      So I don’t install them in any of the 600 series touch n sews.
      I’ll install them in the Stylist 534 and 834, but they’re a completely different gear design that although nylon, they’re completely quiet and reliable.
      If your plastic gear touch n sew goes south, spend the money on a metal gear 600-E.
      All the bobbins and feet and plate interchange, but the 603-E is the original.
      All the later models are poor copies.

    It's a really nice machine. I have one of the late series. They were made longer than 53, at least for the European market. Bernina kept them as a low cost alternative for the 530 till they came out with the 600 and 610. Thanks to the original manual with the warranty page in it I know mine was originally was sold on the 4th of May 1955 in Basel, Switzerland, and the first owner took the obligatory class in June of the same year - no warranty from Bernina if you didn't attend the class on how to use the machine!
    It's the version with foot controller from factory. It uses the typical Bernina snap on feet like the 830 - early versions of the 125 had a low shaft adapter from factory, except for the darning foot which was higher so it could engage Bernina's patented "hopping" mechanism where the foot is automatically raised after each stitch. They retrofitted the 125 to use the new feet when the 530 was released.
    Also have it's older sibling - the 121 straight stitch - with the full rotary hook as used in the 117 and the later Favorit x40 flatbed models, just 90 degrees off (like in a featherweight), so it's what I sometimes call a "nose load" ;) . Even the 121 was made till the mid -50s, I have an original sales brochure for the 530/540 series (Record 530-1 /-2, 532-1/-2 and the Favorit 540-1/-2/542-1/-2) that still lists the 121 as entry level model.

      Excellent information. I appreciate you taking the time to set the record straight.
      I’m not a Bernina historian by any means, so thanks for the info.
      Everything I picked up was on online Bernina forums.
      Your insight is documented and reliable. Perfect.

      Great overview video, thank you. 1953 was Bernina's golden jubilee (50 years), and it was at this time that they introduced the modern Bernina logo with the flat top "A" (without the Swiss cross that came more recently). The "Jubilae" 125 model was launched that year. The 125 was the only Bernina to bear both the old and the new logo during its production period that ran possibly until 1960. Bernina learnt about casting aluminum from the Swiss tool manufacturer INCA (INjected Cast Aluminium), who they contracted for certain parts fitted to the last versions of the cast iron 117 models.

      That machine is rich with Bernina history for sure.

    Hey Randy, other than the 222k did singer make other free-arm machines that were decent. Thanks Mike.

      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The free arms of the 70’s were the Stylist 534 and 834.
      They were ok until the composite gears needed to be replaced, then once replaced, ok again.
      Same with the 900 & 920 Futura and the Creative Stitch versions.
      They haven’t made a real decent machine in a long time.
      The 70’s were the end of an era of good machines for the Singer company.
      Now they’re in the same sorry company as Brother and Viking/Husqvarna.

      The 431G and 631G are essentially freearm 401s, at least mechanically. They're fairly rare in the States and command a premium price, however.

      @@theprojectproject01 yes they’re usually found in towns that have a military base or a military retiree presence.
      I wish I could’ve sold those in the old days when I worked at Singer.

      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelbean739 make sure the twin needle is narrow enough to do the straight stitch without striking either the presser foot or the needle plate.
      Be sure to hold all three threads tightly under the presser foot and to the rear when beginning the stitching process.
      If your tension assembly has dual slots for both threads, make sure to properly use each one.
