    I bought an 830 Record in the mid-1970s, my first Bernina. It was so pleasant to use and it never gave me any problems. Unfortunately, I lost my 830 when my home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A few months later I went to the Bernina dealer and purchased the Artista 730e. While at the dealer I met a woman who had also lost her home during the storm. She told me she loved her 830, and fortunately had loaned to her daughter out of state; however, she lost most of her presser feet. Although I had lost my 830, I was able to recover all of my presser feet undamaged-a match made in heaven! It gave me such pleasure to give all those Bernina 830 feet to her.

    Thanks for a super video! We have learned a LOT about vintage Bernini from you! My wife has a small herd, and just added an almost unused 830, partly because of the information in this video.

    HI Jeremy, would you be willing to do a video on the Bernina Record using the embroidery foot and the circular attachment? I inherited this machine and have all the accessories with it from my late M-I-L. I even have the receipt and date she bought it. 1974. I need to get it serviced since it's been sitting in a basement for about 35. years at my SIL"s house. Anyway, I need a good quilting machine, and I am hoping the record 830 will prove to be another friend in my creative studio. Thanks Elisabeth

    Mine is bought in 1972, never cause me any trouble and I am still loving and using it. I also have a 801 from my mom's estate, just as wonderful and still in use.

    I have had my record 830 ("old style") Bernina sewing machine since October, 1975. My late husband bought it for me in Zambia in October, 1975. I will NEVER part with it. It has served me very well.

      Mrs Tukutela I still reside in Zambia and own a 830 too. Was so excited to read you are from Zambia. There are no machine shops here anymore. So any accessories have.to be.purchased outside Zambia.

    Thanks for this video. My friend owns an 830 and swears by it. I've been through multiple computerized machines. My technician said I sew waaay to much for a domestic. Suggest I get an industrial. After watching your video and taking to my friend, I'm on the hunt for an 830. Thanks for the demo.

    Jeremy, perhaps you were unaware that you can cut off your thread when you complete sewing on the notch in the presser foot lever? I sewed a lot on this machine in the seventies, eighties and nineties. Unfortunately it went into storage for nearly twenty years but now that I have it back I am delighted to discover that it is still in good condition.

    OMG- Not esthetically pleasing? That machine was way ahead of it's time and it still looks modern and great. Mine which I bought in 1974 still sews like a champ but I broke down and bought a computerized Bernina 880 a few years ago. I love that one too! Can't go wrong with a Bernina!!!!!!

    That is a pretty nice cabinet you got! Like J. Whiteoak I also own a Horn one with a Pfaff but I also prefer the Bernina 830 record.

    This is a great video, Jeremy. I have owned an 830 Record from new since the late 70's and it has always served me faithfully. One thing though, I noticed that you did not alter the bobbin thread when you did the buttonhole. In my (tatty old) manual it tells you to "thread the bottom cotton through the hole in the finger of the bobbin case" and I've never known why? Since you sewed a lovely buttonhole it would seem this step is not necessary. Interesting! I would also like to say that the buttonhole mechanism got very stiff after about thirty years and I learned that parts inside can be given a little of the right oil warmed by the hairdryer and it will free them up eventually. It's fine now. It's a great machine.

    It's it possible to show how to do a zigzag stitch on the 830. I've tried to find videos and looked at the manual and I'm ready to pull my hair out!!!

    • @susankennedy5739
      @susankennedy5739 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very simple, just turn the outside top dial, further to the right for wider stitch, back to zero for no zig-zag.

    I have this beautiful machine passed down to me from my mother. Recently got it out to sew in a zipper. The bobbin loaded perfectly. I used the hand wheel to pull the bobbin thread through and it was fine. Then the hand wheel stuck/jammed won’t spin. I’m at a loss. I’ve watched all the troubleshooting videos but none of them worked. I feel like it’s a simple fix. Do you have any idea.

    Thank you for sharing this video. Do you know what kind of change the Electronic version do compared to the ordinary 830 Record? I can see, that it do not provide needle stop.

    i just purchased a bernina record 830 so this is super helpful Thank you. I do have a question about sewing a button hole....Does it make only one size or did you decide on the length? Also i"m glad that you made that mistake when making the button hole because now i know Never to rotate that dial counter clockwise.

    Hi Jeremy, just found your channel. Is that the table you had picked up here in the Dallas area? If so, I'm so excited to see it with your 830 in it! I seem to remember you originally planned a different machine in it. But wow, the 830 works so great in there! (Of course, I may be remembering this incorrectly. Haha). Love your work.

      Hi Ellen! Yes that’s the table I bought from you. I originally put my 930 in it but then an 830 followed me home 😉

    Hi Jeremy, I just found this video as I was trying to decide whether I should buy this exact model that's for sale near me. But I was just wondering, would you know if I could use modern Organ needles with this machine? Or do I need to get some sort of vintage needle, too.

    Your machine needs lubricant .I have a Bernini 830 record and it is very quiet when oiled..

    A friend picked one up for resell and asked if I could give it a once over and figure out why the needle wouldn’t move. Long story short: remember to use calipers with your bobbins kids, because that’s how I got my 830 for $5,

    • @alisondavis5393
      @alisondavis5393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Erica. Could you explain what you mean by ‘use calipers’ with the bobbins? Is it another name for the bobbin case. Aussie gal here. 🇦🇺 Thanks, Alison. Sept 1st 2021

    • @EricaGrafton
      @EricaGrafton 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alisondavis5393 hi, calipers are something that measures small things. There is a mouth thing that opens and you close t on the item. The most common you might recognize is those things they measure body fat with? I use the one in my grandpa's garage.
