Hi Simon, nice laidback look at the stable. I think you told us before that dad was a driver, no wonder you have a passion for railways. Take care. Ron
There are others in the pipeline Ron which you will see in due course. Or after Christmas! Although one I have ordered for Christmas has been delayed until my 60th birthday. I just finished the backscene today. Tomorrow I must find which box I put you in. Don't worry though, it's pretty warm up there with the insulation. Cheers SImon
Hi Simon. You have some lovely loco's and fortunately for me I also have some of the same one's as you. I do have some of ghe old Farish loco's too. I have a really old 'Spamcan' with no name but I researched the number and it is called 'Royal Mail'. Its ancient but it does run , I think. I also have one 'Merchant Navy and a 'West Country ' class , both rebuilt versions. Watching your Dapol loco's fills me with dread as I have one of their 9F's. I have an old Farish Hall and Castle and they are good performers. I also have a couple of 0-6-0's as well. I think that I will have to service all of them because I have not run them for years. But they have all been boxed and stored well so hopefully they are all ok. Anyway its nice to see your stable and its nice to see them running on your new layout. Cheers mate.
Hello Brian, you seem to have a good mixed bunch. Hopefully the 9f behaves itself. Hopefully your service is nothing more than a drop of oil on dry gears. Nice to see most of them run well, a couple of the minitrix wanted full power for 2 laps to get going again. That seems to be fairly normal. Cheers
That "Mallard" and "Sir Nigel Gresley" are handsome engines, and the detail, in something so tiny, is amazing!!! "The Lancashire Fusilier" is also rather handsome as is "Tornado"!!!! You've got some lovely rolling stock there. I seem to particularly like the blue engines though, they look more spectacular in blue than in traditional green, black or maroon!!!
I don't mind green and maroon but black isn't really my colour. I know they all got painted black for the war and they seemed to stay mostly black and dreary. Especially at the end of steam when they didn't bother to clean them or maintain them. Steam leaking out of everywhere. We can only thank that man at Barry who kept them rather than scrapping them.
@@nevillehubbard7347 A lot of old locos were bought by a scrapyard on Barry Island. 297 in total. 213 were kept for resurrection by someone forward thinking enough to see the beginnings of steam preservation on the horizon. Without those there wouldn't be many about.
@@nevillehubbard7347 It was the Woodham Brothers Ltd. They scrapped a lot of wagons and coaches leaving the locos until last and then saw a way of making a better profit from what hey had bought from BR.
Hi Simon, you've got a great fleet there. My favourite was the Springbok too, the coupling rods look just right. The layout looks enormous until the hand of god appears and you realise that its not quite so big afterall. You must be packing your case now, surely? All the best!!
Hello David, I hope your feet are dry over in (sunny?) Spain. Sounds terrible. Springbok is very nice, I've got another loco on order but it's been put back until April. You will like it when you see it. Simon
"It's going on Ebay" 😂😂😂 being a Dapol, I could have guessed 😇 Great to see you running trains again, Simon 👍 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️
Hello Paul, I made some changes after this video and I'm going to give it one last chance in the near future. Get it under my magnifying light and make a decision on whether to give it some surgery or not. I don't like making a loss. Cheers
@@Wickford_N_Gauge I haven't looked yet. I had the same problem with the Schools class, bloody derailing all the time. I thought it was my track or maybe a piece of ballast but in reality it was just shit.
I could hear the love of your Minitrix 9f in your voice. And I have to agree, its lovely. I’m lucky enough to have a Dapol one that actually runs perfectly well but I’d still love to find a minitrix one , one day
I don't know what it is, the number of wheels, being the king of traction? Don't know. Shame is so many got scrapped before they were run in! Plus they never got cleaned or maintained. Somebody worked it out if you put Mallards wheels on it and gave it the same load as Mallard pulled on the record breaking run - hardly any load and a bit downhill - it would of beaten Mallard. Despite having only 2 cylinders. Pretty big cylinders granted but no internal cylinders like express locos. ebay has plenty for sale, just got to look at the paint and the numbers to see how much they have been handled. Prices go from £59 to £90. Make sure there is a photo of the wheels and that all 4 traction tyres are in place and in good condition. You can usually see how much a loco has been run and handled. Mine I bought brand new over 20 years ago and they ran right out of the box after being stored. Shame the Flying Scotsman has been so much trouble.
@ My problem is that I’m all the way in Canada and shipping kills me. I have quite a few minitrix continental models of the same era, and the same is true, they ran straight away after being in boxes 20 yrs and they are just wonderful. I was lucky enough to see Evening Star in steam at a Cardiff Canton open day back in 1985, she was lovely, the 9f’s really were the pinnacle of British steam locomotive engineering. I have a Minitrix green Mallard like yours, what a lovely locomotive! By the way, love the new layout development! Can’t wait to see more!
@@grumbeast Oh yes, time and cost for items to come through. Then if it doesn't work you're basically screwed. I like that they built Evening Star for preservation, somebody was thinking ahead. But then the Great Western Region always did what they wanted ignoring the head office of BR. I think they still do. I've juts finished the back scene and will now take a break. I've got some odds and ends to do then build the platforms and get the lights in before I start on making all those box shapes disappear. Got to think of some scenic breaks to chop up the long runs. Cheers
Cheers. There are 3 or 4 models I still want but after that I wont be adding much unless something really does catch my eye. Certainly not Dapol though.
@@Andy-ly9ry There is a V2 coming out from Farish. Should of been Nov/Dec but looks more like Apr/May now. The one I want is the 'Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry' as that is where my Grandad served.
The prairie tank is now broken which I will mention in a video. The smaller tank I haven't had a chance to look at yet. The Dapol britannia I haven't put on ebay yet as everyone will be broke after christmas. The tornado may go. Even with the extra traction tyres it doesn't like to pull coaches up an incline. I will be doing some more testing with that today and then consider some lead tape under the tender to see if that helps.
Hi Simon! Great look at your fleet! Better be careful how you go with those diesels though, as they can multiply fast! I've got the opposite situation, with more and more steamers infiltrating my fleet! Lol! I wonder how they tested the Britannia? Won't go around curves, won't go over points, won't stay connected to stock - pretty appalling really, although like you say, it does look nice! Nice to see trains running in the loft already! All the best, Ian.
Hello Ian, do they breed in the dark? I do have something for christmas but it will be the last one. I really don't like the modern ones at all. That Britannia is a nightmare, the cab is hitting the tender and why it derails over points I have no idea. Not every time but too regular for me to keep. I might give it one last outing as I have made a change but that doesn't forgive it over points. I have found Dapol couplings are a little small. Dapol certainly wont see another penny from me. They will not convince me they have improved anything. Many others have said the same thing. Cheers
Nothing more aggravating than having a fine looking loco but the damn thing just won’t play ball. I have a Schools class Brighton sitting in its box that hasn’t seen the light of day in well over a year now because it will not stay railed, can’t be bothered to sell it so it just gathers dust on a shelf in the cupboard. Overall though, you got a fine collection of locos there 👍🏻
I had a Dapol Schools early on. Just kept derailing. Took a loss and put it on ebay. I thought it was my track, turns out it wasn't. It also looked very brittle, rods were tiny and some things you just have to make over scale or they break. Cheers
I don't know without counting. I can tell you there are now 2 more and another on order but then 3 of those you have seen will be sold. You can convert them, plenty of room in the tender for a chip. I've seen some on ebay that have been converted and I think there is a guy who advertises on ebay to convert them. Send him the loco and some money and he does it for you. Might be worth upgrading the motor at the same time so it can crawl better. The new motors are pretty fiddly to fit and once in not removed as they sit in a cradle you have to araldite in place. Any more than that I can't tell you. A bit vague.
