    *I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

    I hope there will be an integrated intercom system that'll work between multiple echos within the home

      i have been waiting for that feature ever since I bought more than one Echo. Since they have now integrated calling I see we are getting closer to that happening. At least I hope so.

      4daluvofnikki you would have to label echo. like living room, kitchen, master bedroom, and so on. and just ask it to call master bedroom when you are in the kitchen.

    • @4daluvofnikki
      @4daluvofnikki 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      KevinIsSoAwsome I already have my echos labeled by the room they are in, so you are saying all I have to do is say call living room echo if I am in my bedroom? I will try this out tonight when I get home. Thanks.

      4daluvofnikki you have to open the alexa app and enable the drop in feature to intercom between echo devices.

    I'm kind of considering getting two echos for this 'drop in feature ' to use as a nurse call system. Due to my illness I have paralysis from below my neck down and live in a care home in the uk. The home have a nurse call bell system but unfortunately I can't use it as I can't press the button on my call bell and the care home have not been helpful in getting me an attachment I can use. We have used baby monitors before, but that didn't work to well and it was constantly on so there was a privacy issue, and it some times went out of signal range. I just want a way to be able to call them when I need help (I currently have to use my phone using Siri to call the care home number when I'm in need of help. This method isn't foolproof as the line will sometimes be busy or I'll get put through to another ward). So I wondered if there's a way to make it so I can use an echo to call the other echo device (that could be put in the nursing station) but it would be also good if there was a way to make their device blocked so it could hear me when I ring, but not when I'm not (so they couldn't just call me and listen to private conversations when people visit). Any advice appreciated :)

    it's funny that a lot of people are not very excited about the Show, except for home automation people. I think there is defiantly a market for a voice/video home automation hub.

    Lol, I purchased the OG echo the night before the echo show was announced. I had been researching between google home and echo for a few weeks and chose Alexa. The second after I place my purchase I scan my Google now articles and see one talking about Amazon announcing a new echo with a screen. The echo and Google home lacking a screen was the only thing that turned me off from them. I quickly canceled my purchase and preordered 2 echo shows the next day haha.

    I'm excited about the Show and purchased one for myself and my parents who are states away. They don't have a smart phone but they do have wifi. Both Shows are hooked up to my Prime account. Do I need to get them a Prime account of their own to make calls between them?

    These devices are somewhat useful, I'll admit. But, do we trust them implicitly? Do any of these devices come with hardware (not software-those can be defeated) switches to disable the cameras and microphones?
    I'm not a fan of the jump-cuts to the second camera without you turning to it and talking to us. It feels weird looking at the side of your head for that second or two. I appreciate the different point of view it brings which mitigates the static viewpoint. Think of a newsroom stage where the director tells the anchor off camera to look at camera 2 from camera 1 while still talking.

    WTF, how come Ring will work with this and show video but they can't make the Apple Watch app work so that it shows video when someone is at the door? I should be able to click and see who is at the door with my app and talk to them if I want to, this should be ridiculously simple for them to do.

  • @rudyramirez7466

    You can use your Echos now as an intercom by using the call feature. You will say the name of the Echo you are calling.

    • @4daluvofnikki
      @4daluvofnikki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rudy Ramirez I have been waiting for this feature ever since I bought my Echo Dots for Christmas. But I just thought of something. Will this truly work like an intercom? Or more like a pager. With an intercom all you do is push a button and the person on the other end hears your voice immediately they don't have to do anything. But with a pager the person has to answer the call and then respond. This sounds like it will be more like a pager rather than a true intercom. But I'll take it. It beats not having anyway to talk to someone in your house that is in a different room than you are. It sure will beat yelling. LOL.

    • @rudyramirez7466
      @rudyramirez7466 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can use the drop in feature to act like a intercom. there is no need for someone to answer on the other side. you just need to name each device something different like living room playroom and so on. also you can set it up to only allow drop ins from your household.

I cannot figure out how to add his device as a contact. Is there anyway you can help me figure this out please?

    The concept is really cool, but they won't be successful if they try to push their own messenger, video- and phone-call apps to you. Instead they should open up the plattform for developers to integrate the dominant apps and allow people and developers to work out how this should be used. But I'm pretty sure this won't happen with Amazons system, maybe Apple will release something like this, because they got the power, money, a big enough marketshare and customers who will accept some inconviniences in the beginning. Google is the other big player, who might figure out a way to convince customers, that they need a device like this.

      fair enough, I did exaggerate! But I guess what worries me is the potential that there might be a 'with special offers' version, like Amazon's kindles. Nevertheless, keep up the good work Phil, I've been following you on AC for ages and enjoying your new content !

    No, this doesn't change anything. Unless Amazon launches multi-OS desktop and web chat clients, it will be nowhere near the king of messaging. That title rightfully belongs to the combination of Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

    Whatever happened to naturalness and originality? Why does everyone seem to look and sound exactly the same. Why does everyone put on the same kind of voice and do the same kind of hand movements that I'm sure they don't do in real life..... I know I only came to this vid for some info but I found myself getting too involved in wondering why everyone seems to want to be the same as everyone else..... Just a small point and the info was ok..... At least your opening line wasn't "Hi guys"
