Can You Beat Dark Souls 2 By Stabbing Yourself in the Stomach?

- Can I beat Dark Souls 2 using only the self-damaging L2 buffing animation of Sir Alonne sword to inflict damage? Because it actually has a hitbox and does a surprising amount of damage. The obvious problem of course is that this slow animation will do massive damage to yourself while leaving you completely vulnerable and the hitbox is er... not too reliable. And Just like in my immolation run before, when you can only deal damage by hurting yourself, it will make DS2 a very painful experience.

Also want to mention, I really enjoy that you show a bit more area gameplay than most other people, I personally believe the challenge of navigating areas under such restrictions is just as if not more interesting than bosses sometimes
Yeah that's more applicable in DS2. Elden Ring and DS3 basically just turn into boss compilations because you can run past almost anything

Watching this had reminded me that I wished there was a hitbox for pulling the blade out of yourself just because it always looked like an attack was coming out. Great video overall and can't wait to see what crazy challenge comes next!
Actually in DS3 Seppuku (bloodlust katana weaponart) has a hitbox when you pull the sword out

Incredible to see that this 8 year old game still gets love, and that new challenge runs are being done on it. No one has ever done this before, and that deserves some praise! Fantastic work, really a cut (or I guess I should say stab) above the rest!

I can't, it's too clean for me to not laugh at that
By all rights, your character should've looked like an Elden Ring troll by the end of this run. A few observations:
- I can't say for certain, but looking back at the footage, it looks like you only damage the enemies once the sword is on its way up towards your belly. So instead of catching enemies with the backswing of your katana, your actual hitbox is however far the hilt sticks out of your stomach. Incidentally, bonking enemies with the hilt of your sword as the blade is going through your own chest may be the single least efficient way to try and kill someone with a sword IRL.
- Speaking of the animation, it's easy to meme about the sword clipping through the floor, but the real concern is that the sword sweeps up through half of your body on its way to your stomach. So instead of stabbing yourself, you really should be bisecting half of your body, from your crotch all the way up to the belly. On the bright side, now you know why it deals slashing damage.
- Also from the footage, the stab damages yourself a couple of frames before the enemy. RTSR may have actually been a possible damage increase, but that's just a theory (a Game Theory) and you couldn't have known that while doing the run.
- The brightbugs probably screwed you because they increase both attack and defense by 20%, meaning self-damage would rise commensurately. It probably isn't a 1-to-1 correlation due to the funky way resistances are calculated in every Souls game, but either way, most of the defense you get is wiped away by the AR increase. Sacred Oath would've had the exact same drawback if you went for that one.
- An old PvP meta was to stab yourself while wearing the life ring +3, hot-swap the ring to a different one you want while the animation played out, and keep fighting with a buff and full health. Of course, in this run, you may not have wanted to shorten that health bar in any case, so it's probably a good thing I didn't manage to mention that during a stream.
- Seems it wasn't a fluke last time, the Throne Defender really does only have two gold pine resins. That may even be an intentional design choice, so a struggling player can eventually wait out the lightning buff, but honestly who can say when it comes to B team?
- That Fume Knight poke is probably the only time you'll ever say, "Wow, that was a good hitbox, Dark Souls 2!" When adding the BS to their hitboxes, they must prioritize width over length. You can make of that what you will.
All in all, good video. Props for finding a challenge run that's even harder than runs where you have almost no damage, no health, and no i-frames, and props+1 for beating it.

This looks painful for both the character and the player. Probs for coming up with such torture methods.
I think the problem with hitting Freja might be that the hitbox was hitting the invulnerable part of her model first, and thus disabling the attack, even if you were in range. I've noticed that happening a lot with the Curse Rotted Greatwood, specially with vertical attacks that hit the wood, then the sack and do no damage, might be the same here.

Yeah toxic and poison are annoying in ds2, but then again they had to make it that way, had it been like in the other games a single life gem would have just nullified the effect.
On the plus side it made poison decently viable as an infusion, so that's nice at least.

It would have been practically the same. I'd just be holding a staff and would have gotten some restore items from that spell guy in no man's wharf to make up for repair powders. And of course I would have taken less damage due to being able to wear armor

Amazing run , also the prospect of pc provided suffering is something I didn’t consider but is a very good idea and basically infinite content even though the only moded thing here is the durability which turned out to be more of a downside anyway since someone could technically drop you the blade with how soul memory works if they had it and your self imposed no armour.
This would be pretty cool to see as a ng+ run

Congrats on defeating it! And having the experience of being terrible at, and terrified by, the Prowling Magus fight. Cuz my first playthru (first like 4 playthrus, honestly) it was VERY HARD. Till I dragged in Bernhart to take aggro. I was just super-weak to lightning all those times!
