I was a recruit when President Reagan came to Parris Island. First and last President ever saw in person and it was great Not far from him at all you could see his rosey cheeks. What a great experience
I wonder if any of the young recruits in this video are still serving. They'd be at the level of Sergeants Major now, or in the General Officer ranks. How many were still serving when the Gulf War took place? How many were there to carry the torch when the Towers Fell? How many of them are long since back in civilian life, raising families, and recalling their days in my Beloved Corps with pride? Semper Fi to all my brothers; past, present, and future.
I was still on active duty at MCAS Cherry Point NC when President made his trip to Parris Island. I did get to see President Reagan once when he came to Cherry Point on his way to Camp Lejeune. President Reagan had the military's back.
My wife said if you want to meet president Reagan so bad why don't you pray about it, two weeks later I was shaking his hand. My painting of his portrait hangs in Reagan Library. Thank you God.
Feb 5, 2022: My boyfriend, 23, was a US Marine during the Vietnam war. (He was so PROUD of the Corps, always standing quietly with his keys in his hands.) He trained at Camp Pendleton, and earned his Sgt stripes by the time his tour ended. He spent a year in Okinawa before returning to the states. His new 240Z Datsun was ordered prior to his return, so he flew to California to pick up the car. Nine months later, he rolled the Z as he returned from work on Aug 22,1975. Mysteriously misplacing his keys for over an hour, he was speeding to make an appointment. Because of my family, we were barely speaking at the time. (Distraught, I became suicidal after his death.) God bless his memory and that of our beloved President.
It would've been my EXTREME honor to have served under him. Sadly, I was in high school when he was in office. I will say this: he was one of the reasons why I joined. I fugured if we had CNC's like him, we would be world beaters!!!
Honestly I feel like he was the last genuine leader the USA had seriously I felt the US was safe back in the 80s he just had that calming effect like everything’s gonna be ok . America misses you president Ronald Reagan! That had to be a great day to have one of our greatest presidents ever to visit his own. The United States Marine Corps!
My first husband was stationed at MCAS Beaufort at this time. I vaguely remember the buzz on base when this happened...great memories to see PI, too...we lived there for 8 years...my first two sons were born there...wow.
Nice groyper dude! Do you have room for a gaming PC in your barracks? Thinking of enlisting in the USMC but torn between it and the Army for various reasons.
Growing up I use to kick my cousins ass every weekend at my grandparents farm.. that was until he came back home on leave from the United State's Marine Corps. After 11 months of being a Marine he came home and gave me a good old fashion ass kicking.. with love. He definitely convinced me that he became a bad mother fucker. We went deer hunting and he used my 303 British rifle open sight. He shot a button buck the second day at 125 yards. The bullet actually hit perfect. The deer ran about 10 yards and dropped dead. Before the Marines my cousin never even shot a rifle..or a BB gun. I'm definitely a believer. PS he sighted the rifle in himself.
But they also have worse dnc than compared today. And todays wars are about intelligence not brut strength. In all branches the mind has gotten stronger and the body has gotten weaker.
I graduated from Parris Island in July '85 so this would have been a year later. Man, what a motivation boost it would have been to have your Commander in Chief pay you a visit.
As a Marine who’s an aviation mechanic who’s worked at the hanger he landed right in front of, to becoming a Drill Instructor, currently on PI. It’s pretty awesome to watch the same place 15-20 years ago

That brought back some memories I graduated 1974 Parris Island platoon 1009 that was definitely the hardest 13 weeks of my life one I’ll never forget but I am proud to be called a Marine Semper Fi
I was stationed at Yorktown VA when this occurred. President Reagan was my Commander and Chief and no one compared. When there was a conflict, President Reagan always said, “I’ll send in the Marines.” In December 1986, I got orders to Camp Pendleton Camp Margarita 2/5.
My president while I was in the Marines from 82-85(88 inactive). Under his orders our units invaded Grenada two days after the Beirut Marine barracks blew up killing 241 and 220 were US Marines. I later served in Beirut, Lebanon from 83-84 under his command. He loved the Jarheads! He had to see 241 dead military personnel lined up in coffins at an airplane hangar. Semper Fidelis. RIP President Reagan!
Holy moly. This video is taken 36 years ago.. most of these recruits should be in their mid 50s by now. Time really flies.. those officers should be in their early 60s by now..
We had then vice President Bush visit MCRD San Diego in 87. Never heard that President Reagan visited PISC. Wow! First time I ever heard a sitting President visiting our Boot Camp. I was a Sergeant at Camp Pendleton working as Admin Chief for 3/11. The next year I would be in DI School.
When President Reagan passed away and was lying in state at the Capitol rotunda and people came to pay their respects, there was a sailor in enlisted uniform with prosthetic hooks for hands in the moving line of people. He solemnly stopped, came to attention and gave the slow salute to the fallen. Respect to that sailor, wherever he is. President Reagan earned that kind of respect. He was the first President I voted for. We miss your leadership and love of country, Mr. President.
Love The Gipper. I had the unfortunate experience of starting my service in the Corps under Peanuthead Carter. Morale was low as was the pay and state of readiness. Fortunately President Reagan came in and we got an immediate 14% pay raise and everything got better. I have a problem with some of the Marines in this video. For one thing I saw some horrible hand salutes. Bent wrists, thumbs out. And then they weren't in sync with when to salute. I think the C.O. Of MCRD P.I. Should've made it clear to keep the first and second phase boots in the rear away from the cameras and the CinC. But anyway, I'm sure they were squared away in the end. Semper Fi Devil Dawgz!
Fuck you for referring to President Carter like that. You are not a good military man. Regardless of political party, you NEVER disrespect a Commander in Chief like that asshole.
Brian Gaddie booooowahahahahaha! Wow! You’re awfully touchy about old Peanuthead Carter. I simply stated the facts. And trust me, I couldve commented on many more reasons that he was and is a failure. Now, as far as me being a good military man and me voicing my opinion on my CinC, hug a root crybaby. See I have a license to comment on him since I had to endure his failed leadership. If he’d been a good leader like Ronnie Raygun I’d have said so. As for my military career, what the hell do you know. I’ll use say this, I achieved the highest rank possible in the Marine Corps and served with honor and distinction. You on the other hand probably never served and if you did you either got out as a private or you got a section 8 discharge. I tend to believe the latter. Ooorah!!!
This happened ON JULY , JULY 4 TH 1986..... NOT JUNE ....... I WAS THERE.......... THIS IS WHEN HE SAID -ABOUT CUTTING THE DEFENSE BUDGET... " TELL IT TO THE MARINES".......
This is so amazing. Man, how I wish times were still like this. America was truly great back then. None of the insanity that a great President of today has to deal with. Man... 😔
America’s greatness and strength accompanied with Americans’ happiness by freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities have never come easily, but by so much efforts, patriotism spirit, loving our country dearly hardworking efforts by our country America’s recognitions and principles together. Love the President Reagan and former 1st Lady Nancy Reagan. Love the President Bush and former 1st Lady Barbara Bush. Only America’s greatness, strength and Americans’ happiness will make them RIP, because their tremendous efforts must all of us to be able to continue and achieve. RIP both President Reagan and President Bush 41.
This was in response to a letter I sent him to attend my Marine Corp graduation. His director of appointments apologized saying his schedule wouldn't allow POTUS to visit in April 86 and then in June 86 he shows up.
I was a child in the crowd when he landed. My Daddy was a drill instructor on Parris Island then. So many memories♡ Anyone remember Drill instructor Allbee?
I loved that coat. I used to always hope for rain to have a reason to wear it. That and the aviator jacket. I forgot what it’s called, but my Cpt handed down one of his old jacket to me, and I have both jackets til this day.
I had just graduated from high school and was deciding on whether to join up. I was really hesitant to serve under a Carter administration so I made a decision to enlist if Reagan won the election. He did and I did. The best decision of my life.
I also was there that day on the Confidence course. Plt 2046. That young 1st Lt was our Series commander. Don’t remember his name. I believe Casper Weinberger was with Reagan at the time as well.
At the time he was worst president since the great Republican depression. His voodoo economics tripled the national debt, caused two recessions an crashed the stock market.People who lick his ass are almost as stupid as Trump voters.
HML367 Well the economy is doing great, we have tax cuts, illegal immigration is much lower than it was before, and we do not have to worry about our constitutional rights being infringed by the democrats for now.

Holy moly. This video is taken 36 years ago.. most of these recruits should be in their mid 50s by now. Time really flies.. those officers should be in their early 60s by now..
Rudy Lopez filmed in ‘86 going on 34 years, but I get it lol.
I was there, I remembered shaking President Ronald Wilson Reagan hand. This I will never forget. Graduated July 23, 2986. SEMPER FI 1❤🫡
Best day ever, graduated 6 days later
We had then vice President Bush visit MCRD San Diego in 87. Never heard that President Reagan visited PISC. Wow! First time I ever heard a sitting President visiting our Boot Camp. I was a Sergeant at Camp Pendleton working as Admin Chief for 3/11. The next year I would be in DI School.
Look how the people loved their commander and chief and the military so proud. My have we fallen.
Great upload thank you for sharing. I went in Dec 86-91. Semper Fi to all you marines.
I was there that day on the grinder. A Company Plt. 1062. Ooh Rah
Semper Fi devil dogs
When President Reagan passed away and was lying in state at the Capitol rotunda and people came to pay their respects, there was a sailor in enlisted uniform with prosthetic hooks for hands in the moving line of people. He solemnly stopped, came to attention and gave the slow salute to the fallen. Respect to that sailor, wherever he is. President Reagan earned that kind of respect. He was the first President I voted for. We miss your leadership and love of country, Mr. President.
I got to Parris Island almost exactly 2 months later, on August 5, 1986. Seems like yesterday. Semper Fi
I was there in the crowd while he gave that speech, plt 2059. Graduated 4 days before you arrived. Small world.-lol
Some of them were obviously flustered by the presence of the CINC.
Reagan didn’t care. It’s all for politics.
Just researched it, newspapers said it was June 4th. I was in the crowd, plt 2059.
Miss you Mr. President! RIP Sir.
I love President Reagan!
Did 20 in this man's Navy.
Best Commander In Chief.
This is so amazing. Man, how I wish times were still like this. America was truly great back then. None of the insanity that a great President of today has to deal with. Man... 😔
That is one hell of a way to get motivated!
Man our marines look super sharp. Semper fi
I was at boot camp two years before his arrival. When I was in we loved Reagan, he gave us so many pay raises.
This is some amazing quality
I was there. Plt 206O
2062 in 1985 I hate I missed it
Mr. Silas thats very cool. Something to tell your grandkids. I was there, Oct-Dec 1973, Plt 395, India Company, 3rd Bn. Semper Fi.

9:58 "Hoo-Ra! To the brother in BCGs who just barely made it. We've all been there buddy."
31 years later I would step on those yellow footprints, geez what a moment for all involved.
I was at Parris Island during this visit while I was in Drill Instructor School.
Remarkable footage.
I'm an older Marine but still appreciate the Presidents visit to The Island. Semper Fi
20:55 Is that Clark Griswold?
This was in response to a letter I sent him to attend my Marine Corp graduation. His director of appointments apologized saying his schedule wouldn't allow POTUS to visit in April 86 and then in June 86 he shows up.
One of our country's greatest presidents. President Reagan's values and leadership is what we need today. Semper Fi from the class of 363, PI '68!
After my time, but appreciate the visit. (USMC Korea).
I was a child in the crowd when he landed. My Daddy was a drill instructor on Parris Island then. So many memories♡ Anyone remember Drill instructor Allbee?
I was stationed at MCAS BFT in 86/90
I arrived on the Island October 1989 and graduated from 3rd herd January 1990, platoon 3001. Semper Fi
I’m more impressed by the Marines actually WEARING the inspector gadget coat😳
I loved that coat. I used to always hope for rain to have a reason to wear it.
That and the aviator jacket. I forgot what it’s called, but my Cpt handed down one of his old jacket to me, and I have both jackets til this day.
This is how a President is treated when the people love him
12:04 - 12:27 is golden lol.
Golden shower like Trump?
HML367
Tell me more about your crazy conspiracy theories. Trump is a reptile, right?
I like the chunky guy in the second rank "what are you guys doin" 12:23
12:31 the only way he could make that salute worse is if he saluted with his left hand.
That’s a whole lot of badness right there, God bless all who serve!
My mom was down there stationed at MCAS Beaufort. I was maybe 5 months old.
I had just graduated from high school and was deciding on whether to join up. I was really hesitant to serve under a Carter administration so I made a decision to enlist if Reagan won the election. He did and I did. The best decision of my life.
What great footage. Seems like yesterday.
What a genuine man. God bless...
I also was there that day on the Confidence course. Plt 2046. That young 1st Lt was our Series commander. Don’t remember his name. I believe Casper Weinberger was with Reagan at the time as well.
That plane is at the Dayton Air Museum.
I walked through it and thought about President Reagan.
wIsh we could get these men from the past to help this country and other areas of the world
The Marines are still around.
Shelly Sauvageau those type of men are around.
FDR could do a lot of good now.
The best prez of the 20th century
At the time he was worst president since the great Republican depression. His voodoo economics tripled the national debt, caused two recessions an crashed the stock market.People who lick his ass are almost as stupid as Trump voters.
HML367
Well the economy is doing great, we have tax cuts, illegal immigration is much lower than it was before, and we do not have to worry about our constitutional rights being infringed by the democrats for now.
The biggest ass of the millennium.
JFK was. hands down.
The best lol
