I’m glad you are recognizing Layne. He not only sounds like a complete drum kit at times, but he has mastered a huge amount of organic sounds and other sound effects that he can use at will. When asked if he keeps a stock of recorded sounds he can just plug in, he said never. Each new recording is always different. And they are! For a different genre, I’d like to suggest We Don’t Talk About Bruno. (Although Little Mermaid is great too!). Both were arranged and produced by Layne.

Anthony's (last name pronounced "Garjoola"), Eli's ("Eli" rhymes with "jelly") and Cesar's voices just mix so well. You should really, really check out their version of "Creep." It's goosebump inducing and may even make you teary eyed-just a bit. Also, you should check out their Bass, Geoff Castellucci's solo stuff! YOU WILL BE SHOCKED AND AMAZED. Maybe start with "I See Fire?" But you can't pick a bad one with either VP or Geoff, because they're all, at the very least, really good, and I'd say 98% are totally excellent.

I totally second the suggestions for "Nothing else matters", "Creep", but also something more "sentimental" like "I can't make you love me" and "Can't help falling in love". But I also suggest their "vikings" songs, "My mother told me" and "Valhalla calling", as well as their "gamers" covers, "Halo theme" (to be watched till the very end...) and "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim" at the very least. And yes, check Geoff's solo channel. I'd advise to begin with "Far over the Misty Mountains cold" and "I see fire", from "The Hobbit" vol. 1 and 2... 🙂 See you next time!

This was a fun song thanks for the reaction. Fun fact Anthony wasn't the original featured singer, the original featured singer got sick and couldn't make it. So they called Anthony up and asked if he wanted to do it. Obviously he said yes learned and recorded his part and a week later was in Florida filming with them. Anthony lives in New York. I'm old, never heard of the song, never heard of Seven Nation Army. Didn't matter because Voiceplay is genius!! Both of the pieces you've reacted to are Layne's arrangements. You need to check out a couple of Geoff's. Try Nothing Else Matters and Drunken Sailor. Watch to the end. Eli (elly, rhymes with jelly) has also done some arranging for them, Creep is the most recent.

Voice Play is a phenomenal a cappella group. They’re my 2nd favorite a cappella group (Home Free is #1). Love Voice play and how they perform these iconic songs, and exceptionally well, too! They’re the more theatrical a cappella group in that they do the sets, hair, clothing/costumes. If you would like to be introduced to a different artist(s). If you want another different style, check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhart. She’s probably like no one else you’be heard. She’s recorded this song, and “Creep”, Black Hole Sun” and other songs in a totally different style. She has an amazing voice.

Anthony had his first appearance in "golden hours", this was his 2nd and the last one was creep. Oh and they have a lot if minis, you should check them out. #voiceplay
He often uses instrumentals. Seems to like using his solo stuff as a chance to stretch that part of his talents (and arrangements). If you check his solo stuff out, he is the one responsible for ALL the instrumentals. Plays them on the keyboard but uses plug-ins for the other instruments. The exception being his cover of "Folsom Prison Blues" where he pulls out his harmonica. He, like VoicePlay, is entirely responsible for the direction, editing, arrangements of each video. In some cases with a static camera angle, his wife did the filming. For complex 'make-up' he brings in the guy who VoicePlay uses - especially when it requires added beards or hair. And Eli often helps him set up the lights. I'll echo many with the suggestion you check out "Creep" from VoicePlay for a different feel. But their "Bruno" is really fun! For Geoff's channel, try his latest from 'Nightmare Before Christmas' even though Halloween is over - "Jack's Lament"
This was filmed in one of the abandoned stores of a mall that is now commercial space that is used for a production studio the beat boxer and a prior member co-own and operate. Layne and Tony Wakim, who had been the baritone when Layne gave up singing and switched to beatboxing own the production company. Tony was with them approximately 2009 to 2017. After the Sing Off tour he decided he wanted to go into the production side for the most part and he and Layne opened up PattyCake Productions. It is based in that old mall. They had to sneak in and check it out to make sure it would have the right camera angles . The following day, Layne called Geoff and he was pretty worried. The police staked out that store - apparently somebody saw them breaking in the following day. So they had to film this really fast - get in and get out. The rest of the mall is pretty well developed but the store is still in a decrepit state. Just a fun little behind the scenes factoid. One of my favorites that has not been mentioned is a medley. It is Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. It covers about 11 different boy bands going all the way from my time (I am in my 70s) through the 90s boy bands that my son listened to and beyond. I don’t know why it cheers me up so much. It’s a combination of just really rollicking good music and the silliness of them trying to channel all these boy bands of totally different eras. Another group you may want to check out is The Bass Gang. It is made up with four bass singers that found each other through the Internet during the pandemic. They decided to collaborate even though they lived in different parts of the world. Two of them live in different areas of the US, one is in the Czech Republic and the youngest is in Egypt. One of my favorites is Yellow Flicker Beat with Colm McGuinness collaborating with them. You might also really enjoyed their silly cover of Hooked on a Feeling because they collaborated with Tim from Home Free. They frequently feature guest artists. Their videos up through now have been only digitally green screened. Three of the for were able to meet this summer in the Czech Republic to do four songs based on Disney movies. Sadly Marwan was not able to leave Egypt as the governments did not feel joining his friends to record a song was a legitimate work reason😡. They are still fairly new, having met maybe three years ago. Marwan, the youngest is only 19 years old now and is phenomenal. (In the song that they did with Tim, the other three are drinking wine but Marwan is limited to a juice box because he’s not legal yet😂.) Each of them also has their own solo channel, and Peter, who is an opera singer also is a reactor an analyst.
#VoicePlay isn't afraid to go where a Cappella doesn't usually go. That's part of the amazing thing about them. They're kinda like Ren in that they are independent and just do whatever a song deserves, even if it's not typical. This is part of a metaphorical trilogy for them. The first is Warriors with a couple of members who are no longer with the group, this and then, unbelievably, Dream On with a different guest artist. All are fantastic. For something completely different their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me is exquisite.

Eli short for Eliezer (Ellie) rhymes with jelly. For 25 years of VoicePlay history, Huldra Dracos channel has all the past and present members. Cesar, the newest member, joined the group when J. None left to join the Navy for five years in 2021. Try their Cover of Mattalicas' Nothing Else Matters or Aerosmith's Dream On. They also did a cover of Imagine Dragons Enemy.

If your channel is bringing Voiceplay to more people - more power to you! This was their third with the 'post-apocolyptic' look, first was their cover of 'Warriors' (!), then 'Dream On'..! I will second the requests for 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'Creep', as well as 'In The Air Tonight' - any of their Halloween-themed songs, as well as their Disney medleys - you can't go wrong! Anthony first appeared in 'Just Sing' (you really need to have captions on, to see who is who), it was done as a fund-raiser during lockdown, with a lot of both former members and collaborators - then we saw him next in 'Golden Hour'..! 😁
No kidding! TH-cam suggested a reactor to me who started doing Voiceplay and Home Free last week. He had EIGHTEEN subscribers. I told him the same thing, that doing VP and HF would bring him more subscribers. And as of yesterday, he topped over EIGHT HUNDRED! His name is "Honest Jay," and he's really funny. He looks like he''s in pain from all the goodness sometimes! VP and HF will do that!

Fun facts about videos mentioned her by others. Anthony appears in Golden Hour. The lady in the video is Tim's wife Kathy. Both their videos for Halo and Drunken Sailor have former members of the group, when it was called Four2:5. Scott Porter (Halo) went on to acting and starred in the series Friday Night Lights. The drunken sailor in the video is played by Eric (I think that's his first name.) Buckner, called Bucky. He is also from Four2:5. Bucky is in the VoicePlay Mini I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

You really need to listen to Creep. Totally fresh vision of the song, and gorgeous. Cesar takes a strong role, and you'll finally get a sense of some of his strengths. Eli, btw, is pronounced to rhyme with jelly. It's short for Eliezer. Moana? Excellent, its a medley. For my money, Little Mermaid is even better (also a medley). You've seen their big epic stuff - I don't think you've seen their humor yet but Moana and Little Mermaid will begin to open that side -
Long Comment: Be prepared for a floodgate of subscriptions. I, like many here, subscribed immediately when you did a second #Voiceplay video. You seem like you're about to go down the rabbit hole and I, for one (and all the rest of the VoicePlayers) are going to absolutely live for your reactions as you get to know the guys, the group's story and their endless supply of wonderful music. A quick note: 'Eli' rhymes with 'jelly' - it's short for Eliezer, rather than Elijah. They release at least one full length song per month, sometimes two. They also produce 1 to 4 'minis', just shorts that are excerpts of songs. VP is entirely independent. They arrange, film concept, set design and building, edit, first mix, production, lights... all of it is them (PattyCake Productions which is listed a lot of the time, is run and owned by Lane Stine, a current VP member and Tony Wakim, a former VP member). Songs go off for a final mixing by Ed Boyer, who does the mixing for the 'Big Three' acapella groups - VoicePlay, Home Free, and Pentatonix - as well as so much more. They also do not copyright claim their videos as they actively enjoy reactor interactions. Before I get to recommendations, it's worth noting that although not all of their older songs have them, most of the stuff from the last couple of years has captions, though it usually takes a day or so after the videos are posted for them to be added. Turning on the captions is worth it because sometimes there are funny notes (see VP's cover of Nighmare Before Christmas's Oogie Boogie Song for a prime example) Also, it's always worth it to to watch the video credits. The rock tenor's name is Eliezer so it's shortened to L- E. He's one of the founders and he and his wife are expecting a son I believe right now. If you thought this was awesome I can't wait for your reaction to Valhalla Calling.

The next two videos you should do.... "Drunken Sailor" (Voiceplay) and "Jack's Lament" (Geoff Castellucci). Geoff is their bass. He has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. Most times they're in the video with him but in a couple they were the background vocals. "Sound of Silence" and "Jack's Lament" they are background. The names started because of the way people misspelled and mispronounced his name. So when he did "Way Down" he was 3 janitors and a supervisor. And the names stuck. He needed a name for his 4th clone in "Ghost Riders In The Sky". He liked the name Daryl so that's how he got his name. In "Folsom Prison Blues" the line up is Jeff, Geoff, Daryl and Jeoph. With appearing in the balcony at the end. This video was done in a real prison.
Do get into their older stuff too. Oogie Boogie's song is a beautiful example of Geoff getting into the vocal basement only to pop into his higher range awesome

Really well done, but on the lighter hearted side and the featured artist is Ashley Diane; I think it’s interesting to hear how they blend with a female voice (and hers is stunning). Must recommend Pentatonix as your 3rd acapella group. It is because of their success is tied to Voiceplay and Home Free. PTX won the 3rd season on Sing Off in 2011. Home Free won it in 2012 and Voiceplay placed well in the 4th season, so no matter what group you choose, you cannot lose! Check out Daft Punk Medley By PTX. They won their 1st grammy spending $400 to make the video in their closet. I subbed for more acapella!!!

Fun fact Anthony wasn't the original featured singer, the original featured singer got sick and couldn't make it. So they called Anthony up and asked if he wanted to do it. Obviously he said yes learned and recorded his part and a week later was in Florida filming with them. Anthony lives in New York.

Voice Play is a phenomenal a cappella group. They’re my 2nd favorite a cappella group (Home Free is #1). Love Voice play and how they perform these iconic songs, and exceptionally well, too! They’re the more theatrical a cappella group in that they do the sets, hair, clothing/costumes.
If you would like to be introduced to a different artist(s). If you want another different style, check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhart. She’s probably like no one else you’be heard. She’s recorded this song, and “Creep”, Black Hole Sun” and other songs in a totally different style. She has an amazing voice.

You also really need to check out Geoff's channel. He also does brilliant covers but they're not strictly acapella but they're bleeding awesome.
He often uses instrumentals. Seems to like using his solo stuff as a chance to stretch that part of his talents (and arrangements). If you check his solo stuff out, he is the one responsible for ALL the instrumentals. Plays them on the keyboard but uses plug-ins for the other instruments. The exception being his cover of "Folsom Prison Blues" where he pulls out his harmonica. He, like VoicePlay, is entirely responsible for the direction, editing, arrangements of each video. In some cases with a static camera angle, his wife did the filming. For complex 'make-up' he brings in the guy who VoicePlay uses - especially when it requires added beards or hair. And Eli often helps him set up the lights.
I'll echo many with the suggestion you check out "Creep" from VoicePlay for a different feel. But their "Bruno" is really fun! For Geoff's channel, try his latest from 'Nightmare Before Christmas' even though Halloween is over - "Jack's Lament"

This was filmed in one of the abandoned stores of a mall that is now commercial space that is used for a production studio the beat boxer and a prior member co-own and operate.
Layne and Tony Wakim, who had been the baritone when Layne gave up singing and switched to beatboxing own the production company. Tony was with them approximately 2009 to 2017.
After the Sing Off tour he decided he wanted to go into the production side for the most part and he and Layne opened up PattyCake Productions. It is based in that old mall.
They had to sneak in and check it out to make sure it would have the right camera angles . The following day, Layne called Geoff and he was pretty worried. The police staked out that store - apparently somebody saw them breaking in the following day. So they had to film this really fast - get in and get out.
The rest of the mall is pretty well developed but the store is still in a decrepit state. Just a fun little behind the scenes factoid.
One of my favorites that has not been mentioned is a medley. It is Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. It covers about 11 different boy bands going all the way from my time (I am in my 70s) through the 90s boy bands that my son listened to and beyond. I don’t know why it cheers me up so much. It’s a combination of just really rollicking good music and the silliness of them trying to channel all these boy bands of totally different eras.
Another group you may want to check out is The Bass Gang. It is made up with four bass singers that found each other through the Internet during the pandemic. They decided to collaborate even though they lived in different parts of the world. Two of them live in different areas of the US, one is in the Czech Republic and the youngest is in Egypt. One of my favorites is Yellow Flicker Beat with Colm McGuinness collaborating with them. You might also really enjoyed their silly cover of Hooked on a Feeling because they collaborated with Tim from Home Free.
They frequently feature guest artists. Their videos up through now have been only digitally green screened. Three of the for were able to meet this summer in the Czech Republic to do four songs based on Disney movies. Sadly Marwan was not able to leave Egypt as the governments did not feel joining his friends to record a song was a legitimate work reason😡. They are still fairly new, having met maybe three years ago. Marwan, the youngest is only 19 years old now and is phenomenal. (In the song that they did with Tim, the other three are drinking wine but Marwan is limited to a juice box because he’s not legal yet😂.)
Each of them also has their own solo channel, and Peter, who is an opera singer also is a reactor an analyst.

#VoicePlay isn't afraid to go where a Cappella doesn't usually go. That's part of the amazing thing about them. They're kinda like Ren in that they are independent and just do whatever a song deserves, even if it's not typical.
This is part of a metaphorical trilogy for them. The first is Warriors with a couple of members who are no longer with the group, this and then, unbelievably, Dream On with a different guest artist. All are fantastic.
For something completely different their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me is exquisite.

Eli short for Eliezer (Ellie) rhymes with jelly. For 25 years of VoicePlay history, Huldra Dracos channel has all the past and present members. Cesar, the newest member, joined the group when J. If your channel is bringing Voiceplay to more people - more power to you! This was their third with the 'post-apocolyptic' look, first was their cover of 'Warriors' (!), then 'Dream On'..! I will second the requests for 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'Creep', as well as 'In The Air Tonight' - any of their Halloween-themed songs, as well as their Disney medleys - you can't go wrong! Anthony first appeared in 'Just Sing' (you really need to have captions on, to see who is who), it was done as a fund-raiser during lockdown, with a lot of both former members and collaborators - then we saw him next in 'Golden Hour'..! 😁
No kidding! TH-cam suggested a reactor to me who started doing Voiceplay and Home Free last week. He had EIGHTEEN subscribers. I told him the same thing, that doing VP and HF would bring him more subscribers. And as of yesterday, he topped over EIGHT HUNDRED! His name is "Honest Jay," and he's really funny. He looks like he''s in pain from all the goodness sometimes! VP and HF will do that!

Fun facts about videos mentioned her by others. Anthony appears in Golden Hour. The lady in the video is Tim's wife Kathy. Both their videos for Halo and Drunken Sailor have former members of the group, when it was called Four2:5. Scott Porter (Halo) went on to acting and starred in the series Friday Night Lights. The drunken sailor in the video is played by Eric (I think that's his first name.) Buckner, called Bucky. He is also from Four2:5. Bucky is in the VoicePlay Mini I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

You really need to listen to Creep. Totally fresh vision of the song, and gorgeous. Cesar takes a strong role, and you'll finally get a sense of some of his strengths. You've seen their big epic stuff - I don't think you've seen their humor yet but Moana and Little Mermaid will begin to open that side -

Be prepared for a floodgate of subscriptions. I, like many here, subscribed immediately when you did a second #Voiceplay video. You seem like you're about to go down the rabbit hole and I, for one (and all the rest of the VoicePlayers) are going to absolutely live for your reactions as you get to know the guys, the group's story and their endless supply of wonderful music.
A quick note: 'Eli' rhymes with 'jelly' - it's short for Eliezer, rather than Elijah.
They release at least one full length song per month, sometimes two. They also produce 1 to 4 'minis', just shorts that are excerpts of songs.
VP is entirely independent. They arrange, film concept, set design and building, edit, first mix, production, lights... all of it is them (PattyCake Productions which is listed a lot of the time, is run and owned by Lane Stine, a current VP member and Tony Wakim, a former VP member). Songs go off for a final mixing by Ed Boyer, who does the mixing for the 'Big Three' acapella groups - VoicePlay, Home Free, and Pentatonix - as well as so much more. They also do not copyright claim their videos as they actively enjoy reactor interactions.
Before I get to recommendations, it's worth noting that although not all of their older songs have them, most of the stuff from the last couple of years has captions, though it usually takes a day or so after the videos are posted for them to be added. Turning on the captions is worth it because sometimes there are funny notes (see VP's cover of Nighmare Before Christmas's Oogie Boogie Song for a prime example)
Also, it's always worth it to to watch the video credits. On occasion there is something to see during the credits (See Hellfire, Drunken Sailor, or Hall of the Mountain King for the best examples here).

"Drunken Sailor" (Voiceplay) and "Jack's Lament" (Geoff Castellucci).
Geoff is their bass. He has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. Most times they're in the video with him but in a couple they were the background vocals. "Sound of Silence" and "Jack's Lament" they are background.
The names started because of the way people misspelled and mispronounced his name. So when he did "Way Down" he was 3 janitors and a supervisor. And the names stuck.
He needed a name for his 4th clone in "Ghost Riders In The Sky". He liked the name Daryl so that's how he got his name.
In "Folsom Prison Blues" the line up is Jeff, Geoff, Daryl and Jeoph. With appearing in the balcony at the end. This video was done in a real prison.

Must recommend Pentatonix as your 3rd acapella group. It is because of their success is tied to Voiceplay and Home Free. PTX won the 3rd season on Sing Off in 2011. Home Free won it in 2012 and Voiceplay placed well in the 4th season, so no matter what group you choose, you cannot lose! Check out Daft Punk Medley By PTX. They won their 1st grammy spending $400 to make the video in their closet. I subbed for more acapella!!!
