Congratulations!! A few years ago I bought a lightly used very low mileage 2014 FJR1300A with the gorgeous candy apple red metallic paint. The original owner was an older gentleman that had injured his shoulder and could no longer ride the bike. I was in the right place at the right time and found the FJR for sale in absolutely pristine garage kept condition and with the color matched top box included. I also have a beautiful pearl white metallic 2014 Honda VFR800 deluxe which is a great machine with a very sweet V4 engine. But the FJR is my favorite for many reasons including the power, handling, looks and comfort. I do wish it had a very tall overdrive 6th gear for a more relaxed interstate cruise. But the 5 speed is just fine. In Sport mode she pulls relentlessly and passing other vehicles is instantaneous and effortless. Nothing wrong with the dash from my POV and in fact I prefer the mix of analog and digital gauges. Guess I’m old school at 62 yrs. I fitted custom Corbin saddles, a taller windshield, and a set of Michelin sport touring tires, all of which are a must IMO. Overall a fabulous motorcycle and a bit of a sleeper since I rarely ever see other FJR’s on the road. Subbed. ☮️

I couldn't agree more. I just bought a 2023. The only thing I added was a GIVI trunk, which I leave off when I don't need it and a phone mount. I had an 05 before this one which I also loved, but I'm pleased with the updates Yamaha has made to the bike. It is in my opinion one of the greats.
These are great bikes except for the seat that's the one thing that needs upgrading it you really want to cover the miles in comfort. I have a 2019 that I bought used which has just about every factory upgrade including the extended fairings, frame sliders, Yamaha comfort seat (that isn't comfortable - trust me), upgraded aluminum top-box rack. Yamaha Top Box with the passenger seat back-rest. It is a bike that handles really well is an absolute rocket ship. I've done a 2500-3000 mile trip two up on mine. Really good value for money. Maintenance is also easy as you note. The dash gives you all the information you need. I added a bracket for a Garmin GPS on mine. I hate adaptive cruise control - normal cruise control is perfectly adequate. You will enjoy this bike.
I've owned two FJRs, a '15 and a '16. Sargent seats have worked well on both. Wait until a holiday sale and get them at a steep discount. They're a terrifically comfortable seat.

I have an Ex Police FJR 1300. All I have to add to this video, is that I am so happy with the analogue dash clocks on the 2012 model. I think that big swinging needles across easy to read clocks, are just fine when you need to have your focus on the road ahead. After all. the road ahead becomes the road behind you. very quickly on a bike like the FJR from Yamaha. Nice video Mark

I had a 2006 that I put 32000 miles on before selling it. It was still like brand new when I sold it. Amazing bike. Absolute rocket if you spooled it up just right, fast always, and massive torque. The only thing I didn't love was the stiff throttle spring, which I believe they fixed and people fixed on their own....
I hope to see you do more vids on this bike. Maybe let us know after some time with it what you think, what you find yourself riding more between the bikes you have and if you are able to stay comfortable and happy with it. After riding on and off since 1969 and owning ten mc's, I currently own a 2011 HD FLHTK, a heavy touring bike. At age 75, I'm not as strong as I used to be, so I'm thinking of selling the HD and buying either a Councours 14 or an FJR 13. It's hard to find 2016 and later FJR's in good shape, but if it means flying across the country to get one, I''ll go for the FJR, due to its having cruise control. I have carpal tunnel, so I need to rest my right hand occasionally, and with my OCD and Anxiety/Depression, I wouldn't be confident with a mechanical device for a temporary throttle lock. With other passtimes no longer available, I really value my time spent on two wheels. Thanks for the video! [John in California]

I own a 2016 FJR in the UK. I have ridden to Germany, France and around the UK with my son as pillion. He is 6' tall, and we have a fully loaded top box and panniers. This weight makes no difference to how it performes. It is effortless. It's absolutely brilliant. 🇬🇧
I too. Have bought a 2023 in May. upgraded from an older honda st 1300. I have been looking for a back rest option for my wife. had a corbin seat with the doughnut back rest on the honda. My wife really misses it. could you possibly tell me what brand that back rest is on your's. It looks like a great option. I could not wait for the break in process to be over. So at 800 miles I changed the oil and gear lube, and was able to let the big dog go. It is so smooth and comfortable i some times forget to check the speedo. triple digits come pretty fast. Hi Jerry-Thanks for your note. Happy to share some information about the backrest on my FJR. It was installed by the original owner, and it was ordered from a company called, Pirate's Liar. The cool thing is this back rest is perfectly matched to the same texture on the seat. It is well made for sure. This company specializes in special aftermarket accessories. Hope that is helpful.
What’s different between FJR and ST ?? Just curious since I have an ST and would look at the FJR once I’m done with the ST. Problem is Hondas as so damn reliable that who know’s when that’ll be ?
@@GodzillaGoesGaga Biggest differences would be. 1. The engine-the ST has the V4 while the FJR has an inline 4. Horsepower on the ST is around 118 while the horsepower on the FJR is around 142. Yamaha still makes the FJR while Honda no longer makes the ST.
Rented one in Munich back in 2002 & did a 2 week tour of the Alps. Wow, very fast bike. Wanted to buy one back in the USA when they arrived. But my 2 weeks on it I found that it had one big downside, the engine gave off too much heat for me. Ended up getting a 2003 BMW 1150 GS. Hope they fixed the engine heat problem.

This is one of the year bikes that had the second gear recall. Engine had to be removed from the bike, completely disassembled, new components installed, then reassembled, and reinstalled in bike. I personally would not buy one of these bikes that had this recall. I have a 2015 FJR 1300ES. FJR is a great bike.
I have a 2015 FJR1300A..It's been flawless...Hear stories about clunky shifting but mine seems to be buttery smooth. I use Lucas 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic oil. I have Yosh R-77 slip ons with power commander..The Yosh slip ons are 50 state legal so bike is not loud just a nice rumble...Dyno 134 at wheel. Love the tune of the motor with great low end and a sportbike like top end hit. I'm 72 so don't play ricky roadracer but still love to twist the loud handle once in awhile. As I've gotten older love the electric windshield, cruise control and heated grips..Also love the shaft drive..I had a 2012 ZX14R which was great but tired of the chain maintenance..It's the Liquid Graphite color which in my opinion looks great..
You're right about the 2nd gear recall. Many owners traded their recalled FJR's for other bikes. Some guys opted not to undergo the recall. I shopped around for a dealer with a competent tech to complete the work. That was shortly after the recall was announced. Since then my 2018 has continued to run perfectly. The 2nd gear recall is something to consider in 2016-19 FJR models.
Yes indeed. After 650 miles of riding, the computer is providing an average of right at 45 MPG. I am pretty impressed with that, given the performance nature of this bike. Really enjoy it so far. Thanks for your question.
I have a 2019 and I average 45 also at 75 mph. If you spend the day in the canyons, I have gotten mid 50's. Weird how is is dependant on your right hand! LOL It is so fun to ride, it is hard to not give it an extra twist...because it always responds! Great video Mark!
i love the fact my 2018 FJR runs on 87 octane. Non-enthanol gas provides noticeably higher mileage. Also, I've found that my 2018 fuel gauge indicates less fuel then is actually available. During a long haul trip I missed a fuel stop and ran the fuel meter down to the point it was flashing. After several more miles it went blank. I finally rolled into a gas station and filled the tank with 5.4 gallons (6.6 gal capacity).
Hi, very nice review! Have you heard anything about any gearbox issues in this particular model? I heard from some repairman, that it's not so reliable as the previous one with 5 gear transmission and the cost of repair is actually brutal if it breaks

Thanks for your question, Brian. The Honda Transalp is a very solid and more than capable mid-size adventure motorcycle. When the opportunity came up to purchase this used FJR, I believed I would ride it more than the Transalp. It's that simple. Hope that helps explain it....Cheers.
I have the 06 FJR Yamaha im having troubles with a thing called a spider bite which effects the electronics is there some way of trying to get it fixed S4 and S6 if I turn the bike on raise the screen then start her everything works different story when I just turn the bike on and just press start the blinkers are on the high beam light is on its blue no headlights have you got any ideas on how to fix this issue thanks for your help and time from Australia 🦘🌏
Greetings from Wisconsin. Thanks for the question. I have not encountered any electrical connection issues. However, there is some great information on the FJR Forums about this issue related to the period of FJR bikes your mention (2006). From what I read on the forum, cutting out the S4 and S6 and re-soldering the connection was one route. Another was to disassemble the connections and use a conducting lubricant to improve the overall electrical health. I hope this can get you pointed in the right direction. Please let us know how it turns out for you.
2014 model..full coolant change is a pain..full fairing off and dash board if doing it properly..dont even mention the rear suspension linkages ..suspend bike in mid air..hacksaw bolts off unless you want to take off exhaust manifold..apart from that a great bike to ride..

As an owner of Gen2 and Gen3 FJR1300 I have to say the Gen2 dash is much better and easier to read

Thanks for your question, Brian. The Honda Transalp is a very solid and more than capable mid-size adventure motorcycle. When the opportunity came up to purchase this used FJR, I believed I would ride it more than the Transalp. It's that simple. Hope that helps explain it....Cheers.

I have the 06 FJR Yamaha im having troubles with a thing called a spider bite which effects the electronics is there some way of trying to get it fixed S4 and S6 if I turn the bike on raise the screen then start her everything works different story when I just turn the bike on and just press start the blinkers are on the high beam light is on its blue no headlights have you got any ideas on how to fix this issue thanks for your help and time from Australia 🦘🌏
Greetings from Wisconsin. Thanks for the question. I have not encountered any electrical connection issues. However, there is some great information on the FJR Forums about this issue related to the period of FJR bikes your mention (2006). From what I read on the forum, cutting out the S4 and S6 and re-soldering the connection was one route. Another was to disassemble the connections and use a conducting lubricant to improve the overall electrical health. I hope this can get you pointed in the right direction. The cluster was redone in 2013 not 2016
Would like to see the gauges updated and adaptive cruise control on this bike. The TFT on the Tracer 9 GT+ is nice.
Those would be nice additions. And the price would move up a little. ☹
@@MarksGarage17 that’s why I’m looking at the Tracer over this. Gauge looks too outdated and no adaptive cruise.

Lovely bike to ride but a nightmare to work on.
2014 model..full coolant change is a pain..full fairing off and dash board if doing it properly..dont even mention the rear suspension linkages ..suspend bike in mid air..hacksaw bolts off unless you want to take off exhaust manifold..apart from that a great bike to ride..
