This would be great if it was finished, i love the extreme cartoonization and how everything seems alive, specially when the cog building slammed in.
Exactly it looks like a classic warner brothers cartoon come to life with gags running everywhere, it animated and has a lot of things going on, the original/current one seems static in comparison now.
The mini games look really fun as well if they were completed, especially the pinata one (i don't have accenting on my keyboard please forgive me spanish speakers)

Yes and it does has the Roger Rabbit/Bonkers feel with Fleischer Studios' surrealism and a lot of wild and crazy slapstick from cartoons by Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, Robert McKimson and Jim Tyer ! mixed with SpongeBob and ChuckleVision !
so this game is pretty much one big acid trip

Such wasted potential. The switch to Unity from Panda3D would have been a big leap in what the original engine could do. The world looks a lot more lively than most cartoon related video games I have played. A highly ambitious project and if Disney green lit and funded the project it COULD have been the next big thing. What a shame.

Little did they know that Winnie The Pooh, Roger Rabbit and Bonkers D. Bobcat were going to be NPCs in Toontown 2.0. alongside Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, Daisy, Chip, Dale and Pluto.
If this is ever released, I honestly don't think it can replace our Toontown: Rewritten. It's the ORIGINAL toontown (Of course, with a few differences)
Many of us grew up playing, or played when we were younger, so it's more known to us.
If this is released, it will be pretty cool, don't get me wrong. Just saying.
However, it looks pretty cool :3

It's a shame, I really was hoping Disney would start with making some more MMO games.... would love to see a Star Wars Rebels MMO and a Toontown 2 become a reality :/
Since all of their MMO games did shut down rather recently, I guess they are at least going to wait a bit before they make any decisions if they want to get back into the market..... but I doubt it'll happen anyways.

Man! This looks like so much fun!! Imagine if this version of Toontown had all of the same exact features from the original (Racing, Golfing, turn-based cog battling, cog hqs, etc) while ALSO including all of these updated graphics and concepts. It would have been mega successful, for the original was highly popular and it didn't have any of that other stuff. Disney missed a gold mine with this :(
I really like the how the buildings were animated, and changed depending on what was going on. Cogs take over? They all cower and shake. Brilliant! Wish TTR had that, haha.

7:14 years later, this would be added into ttr.
Even though there's difficulties rebuilding a game from the ground up and hosting servers in general, this still seems like a really ambitious project that unfortunately went to waste. The concept art tells me they went above and beyond making this game the Toontown they had envisioned without the technical limitations. I wouldn't mind seeing some expansion on it.
The more I see of this, the more I think this went and became Epic Mickey.

Don't you think the Game Over screens were a little Macabre for Toontown? I mean the first one tricked me with the sad trombone and your toon shrugging like "i guess i messed that up" which i thought was going to be it but then there's a violent explosion and you die. The second one... do i need to say anything? 14:12 The fact that the describe the doodles being "Ground up" is the real kicker.

That'd be cool to see but the amount of work is just substantial. It might seem doable but once you really realize you're trying to make an MMO from scratch it gets hard to keep going

This game has so much potential. It's a shame the project was shut down.
id keep the old art style or change this one. its in that awkward stage where the visuals dont age well it just looks old and ugly. toontown still looks fine because it aged beautifully this one just looks too try hard. like the idea tho. also i think they just need more playgrounds and different cog hqs or factory things. those are the most fun id like to see it come to pass.

Toontown Online, at most, lacked the stretching, squashing and exaggerated action that classic cartoons had; most of the time everything would be direly stiff, besides cog interaction with gags and some odd bits, due to the technology available to create the game and the hardware it had to run on.
The game seemed to sell itself visually as a crude 3D tech demo rather than a cartoon, really.
With the Unity demos though, it shows very well that Disney was looking for better ways to express the liveliness of cartoons that Toontown fell short of. Honestly, I would buy membership for a new Toontown game being made by the same people who made these demos. I don't buy membership for any MMO unless it's worth playing, and while Toontown and Club Penguin are still crappy with it and limiting without it, I'd bet my money on a faithful successor... as long as it isn't a mobile app.

Despite club penguins fail on mobile i wonder if they will try this, but with schell games. The fanbase is very alive.

Nice work once again! I was right to say you deserve more subscribers. I like how we spent years wondering about those things, then you came with the most obvious solution of just asking old TTO staff for it, and they simply said yes... It's like everyone were thinking like adults, then you came with a solution only a little kid would believe in, and it actually worked. That's so amazing and funny.
Also, it's so cool to see toontown 2. It also shows how much of an early stage it was on, so many old textures or models with no textures at all, etc. Looks like it was stopped at a very early stage.
I love the moving buildings, it's like on "who framed roger rabbit", and the fact that they get scared of the cog building, and go to sleep at night... It's just so amazing.
And the doodle planet thing had a jellybeans jar backpack!!!
Also that message when you lose the game, I assume it was just an inside joke between the developers for the prototype, but it reminded me of the rabbits in cosmetic tests.
By the way, roger dog almost fainted when he saw that video. I'm gonna sue you if he gets an heart attack out of exsitment! :D

here's a theory I've made towards a reason they stopped. I think it's because it would be a huge detailed game. if it did make it to glory it would take years and it's a detailed game meaning you would need a good computer to use this as this prototype is from 2012-2013? it's 2016 and some of our pc struggle so there's my theroy
I'm fairly sure the reason they stopped with Toontown is because they wanted to focus on Club Penguin which was a stupid move.

Yeah, but we're talking about if Disney were to make TT 2.0 profitable, it would have to be able to work on an average family computer since they were targeting a younger audience, and most kids don't have gaming PCs.
In fact, I was using a 2003 laptop (Dell Inspiron 600m) up until about 2 years ago when I bought my current desktop, which is leaps and bounds ahead of my last computer but still pretty much average, because it's what I could afford as a 15-year-old. Even then, that's still a bit older than TT's target audience, even if those of us who grew up with the game still like it.
I bet if they did reboot ToonTown, they would see a significant rise in profit.

Man, and this was just the prototype! It's so cool! That Hypno Owl will be a character when I start to animate.
When was this in progress again? The graphics already look great in the main game, and it's mainly using old models. The shading just makes it great. Although, the pinata belt and doodle minigame graphics are underwhelming in comparison. Interesting ideas, though. I have to use that cog cosmetics thing as some kind of halloween special. Thank you very much for sharing this with us!

This looks awesome, although I think the moving buildings make the scene a bit too busy. Smaller objects moving around like in the original game would probably be better, but the amount of interactivity is great. Are there any people developing it?

I'm not trying to say it should be better at this stage but if Toontown 2.0 is to be good you have to leave behind a thought of Toontown 1.0 was absolutely perfect because the gameplay of Toontown 1.0 is not great at all and I think if someone goes through with it, they can't be running solely on nostalgia. overall Toontown 1.0 had potential but lacked deep mechanics that would have made it more enjoyable and whoever is developing it should realize this and overcome it.

The open world-ness and buildings was really reminiscent of the Sly Cooper game series.
Honestly I don't think this game would've gained enough popularity to stay afloat but who knows. It looks like it would take a lot of processing power from a computer and the demographic its targeted at probably don't have a PC strong enough to support running this game. :(
Because it reminds me of Sly, it looks like a game that would be payed for to play, but not like membership: like Minecraft I guess? Thats an awkward thing for an mmo game like TTO2 though.

Personally I think there are too many animations and stuff going on to make it distracting and confusing. It may look cool but I feel like there way too much detail and stuff, I kinda prefer the simple Toontown we have now, but this would be cool to try.
