This week, I combined my two kitbashed podracers and a model kit of Anakin’s podracer to build one large Pod Race diorama.

I think something that would help with the feeling of speed is dust clouds being kicked up by the engines and maybe some "speed lines" coming off the pod racers themselves.
I always appreciate you mentioning the safety steps you take. You see to many people glossing over some of the hazards of the hobby.
Watch those bindings... they could make your hand go numb for hours.

In an absolute sense, fins open right would make a right bank. However, the pods are moving relative to each other. The Anakin pod is doing what we see in the movie a couple times - hard jank followed by a slam forward to get around the pod in front of him.
I came to say this too, if Ani was banking left, the left airbrakes would be opened up 🤓😶 your explanation is perfect though
The pod race in one of the first Star Wars movies is still one of my favorite scenes!

unpopular opinion but I honestly think the phantom menace is the best of the prequels
I think that its better than Attack of the Clones. The ‘dating’ scenes between Anakin and Padme are so cringe. But Revenge of the Sith is still my favorite out of all three prequels.
The patrons really did well this time and the addition of the fiber fill for dust was amazing. Maybe you need to update this model already.

the air brushing makes it look like they're flying over mountains way down below them. I think that could be a useful technique for future dioramas.
At some point there should be a public gallery for all your dioramas so that they can be enjoyed in all their glory.

In addition to it being the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace, it's also the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars.
That was just a pleasure to watch, those glowey noodle lights just take that build to a whole different level.

As nerdy as theis sounds, Anakin's pod panks to the side the pod is tirning, like if he turns to the left, the fins open on the left side

I just did my first model yesterday and completed it! It is a WW2 U.S. Consolidated B-24J Liberator. I think I could have done better but for my first model, I think it’s pretty good 👍
Phantom Menace had some rough writing but still had more creativity, designs and worldbuilding and ideas then all of the SW sequels
This is incredible work, as always, Boylei! And your motion-effect on the base really sells the scene! Not too bad for an 'experimental' idea . . . .
Though "The Phantom Menace" has its detractors, one thing that I appreciate about it is the now iconic Pod Racing scene; mainly for the inspiration that the basic concept provided for modelers of Science Fiction subjects.
Though Anakin's Pod was the only one actually kitted, (I would have also liked a model of the one Sebulba used,) the idea of Pod Racing has inspired thousands of scratch built examples that are as unique as they are canon-compliant - like the two you have framing Anakin in this scene. I suspect that even diehard "Star Wars" fans would be hard-pressed to realize that your designs are originals that weren't actually in the movie.

Awesome. On earth, increasing the drag by opening the fins would pull the aircraft to the right. I don’t remember how it was in the film. Either way, who cares? It looks great!

The streaks on the backdrop look odd on their own, but in the context that the eye or camera is following the fast vehicles, it gives the impression that the ground is zooming past and streaking the camera lens, very nice.

Boylei I'd love to see a war of the worlds model I think Pegasus still makes to giant models but thy can go for a pretty penny.

Given me a good reason to watch the movie again. Cool. Kind of inspired me to finish off my "Luke in the trench, Death Star" diorama I started - that was to have a blurry effect, I built the small scale Revell ships but got stuck on how to proceed with the scene.
You have some great ideas. (Like the kid's Lego pod, by the way.) 👍

The Pod racing was the only redeeming quality of that movie. Am i the only one salty there have been tons of fast and furious but we cant get a single spin off pod racing movie?? Loosely set in the starwars universe but just 95 min of a racing circuit across a galaxy would have been SICK!!
0:39- See….. I never really hated the movie!?! Obviously there is always going to be something wrong in any movie and the whole “he was able to damage Anakin’s pod racer without literally tens of thousands of eyes watching them and most likely most of them watching him directly because he was already concerned to be the star” was very ridiculous! But what I hated the most was Jar Jar’s character! And even more so once people started with that stupid a$$ joke about him!!! His existence ruined every scene he was in!!!
Ah, the diorama is beautiful but personally I think the speed lines don’t work. The rock colours were beautiful before. Maybe the cotton wool dust effect being kicked up would’ve been better.

Bandai water decals do indeed suck a little. HOWEVER. There's a third party company called Delpi Decals that sells rather nice water decal sets for, at the very least, most Gundam kits.

I get what you mean by the “finicky” nature of the kit lmfao, so many of these older, non snap fit models are hard to work with and ultimately aren’t as fun as something like gunpla or even bandai’s own Star Wars line. You did great as always regardless, looks amazing!
They can literally still make a podracer movie and nobody would complain, that's how good the concept is. Why they still don't I have no clue.
