Hey this is truly beautiful, I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this viedo. I'm also a huge fan of people getting out of their comfort zone and I'm honored that you share how that process looks like. Recently I started to explore the jazz vocabulary on the piano aswell and since you're open for suggestions I encourage to play with little sustain pedal as possible. It may sound counterintuitive, but it can help having the tune under control while the style of the music brings enough freedom on it's own. I personally practice counciously keeping my foot away from the pedal haha. Anyway, you can give it a try if you feel like it. I greatly enjoyed your playing! Keep it up
Gorgeous, I really love your voicings! My ear gets fatigued really quickly though by the piano sound which is way too muddy for those low rich voicings, and I really can't stand the sampled sound of the pedal- it took me ages to work out what the sound was that sounded like a cross between brushes on a snare or a snare drum resonating in the corner of the room. A real piano wouldn't make those pedal sounds because we adapt the speed we depress and lift the pedal depending on what we're playing. But I love your improvisation/ arrangement- you should absolutely make the sheet music available, I'd be interested!
Appreciate it! I'm really partial to this VST but I admittedly use the "classical" setting which has a much darker sound profile. I suppose for the more jazzy arrangements I could use a brighter setting. Had a look through your channel and the arrangement of the Rach 2 Adagio is pretty incredible by the way. Criminally underrated, that is a huge project. On the outset I'm guessing you have at least somewhat of a formal jazz background so I'm very happy to listen to any critique you might have on voicings and progressions. In terms of jazz theory I don't even really know where to start looking.
@@walnutpiano Aw, that's very kind of you! Although I've dabbled in jazz guitar, I'm really a classical pianist who only very recently threw myself seriously into jazz arranging, and was absolutely clueless about jazz piano not that long ago 😄 So I really admire your Amazing Grace, right up my street! There's very little to criticise, only the very odd voicing that doesn't have good voice leading- but it's good enough that I'd be really happy to perform it 🙂 I've got to say, I don't think I'd get on all that well with classical repertoire played with your VST- I want to hear all the individual notes rather than just a muddy wall of mid-tones 🤣
