The Nautilus 5711 might be one of the most desirable watches by Patek Philippe. Having been designed by famous watch designer Gerald Genta, its been a fan favorite since 1976. It was created to compete with the Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet which was released in 1972 as the world's first luxury stainless steel sports watch. The Nautilus' popularity is UNDENIABLE but due to its status, it also comes at a premium. For Patek Philippe fans out there everywhere, surely, there must be some other way to get a piece of Patek without the hefty price tag. Wow, thanks! I get as many requests about Patek watches as I do about Rolex and I thought it was time for this one ;)
Two thoughts:
1. The original datograph represents (to me) the biggest deal out there at the moment. Arguably the greatest chrono ever made, and selling for 38-40k for a full set. It's the best watch I own, and it kills me to see hype pieces eclipse it in price.
2. I can understand why someone would opt for a hype piece over a less-popular Breguet, VC or IWC, and not just due to them being less flex-worthy. Lots of these young guys throwing down 60k on a 5711 can't REALLY afford it, but due to how liquid the watch is, it becomes more of a quick rental which can be sold if/when that money is needed. A slower moving piece like a pp dual time is a watch someone 'owns' as opposed to simply 'buys' for a short period of time.

Roman Thankyou again for great insight in the watch world.. please continue to show watches you feel will open our eyes to what is available and more important exposing watches that most of us would never know about or see. This will allow us to decide for ourselves if we love it or not. I will never buy a watch that I don’t love or one that gives me a smile each and every time I look at it. Your so right when you buy a watch you have to feel something about it.
Thankyou and please keep doing what your doing.. your helping a lot of watch nuts to expand their knowledge base.

The watches are beautiful and eye-catchy. These are watches to buy, keep and enjoy per your personal taste. These watches may also reduce your chances of getting "jacked"/mugged when wearing them out in public.
Great deals were to be had among mid-range priced watches also during COVID. I got two chronographs, a Zenith El Primero and JLC Reverso, for $8000 total, and the list for these two was $30,000. And a Grand Seiko even at full retail is always a great value.
Every good collection needs a Reverso, that's a great pair of chronos you've got! I've got two in my watchbox as well - a daytona and datograph.

Hi Roman! Watched this video 2-3 times already. As you have mentioned in this video to put things into perspective which I have learned from you. I have seen the new OP41 selling at SGD13k+ and saw a AP Huitieme Chronograph selling at SGD9k+, the market just doesn't make any sense.

Great format Roman, your insight with these high end pieces is so spot on. You talk so casual when handling these out of the ball park time pieces.
I picked up another 5960p for 38 which is just a steal for that watch
But you have to also tell your viewers that these pateks are pretty dainty and can and will break , long wait times from stern agency etc
Almost all my pateks broke at some point and I’m not hard on watches

Roman Sharf, Rolex Question? In what order did the SS Sports dissappeared/held back from the AD's cases in the last 3 years. Daytona was first years ago, no debate. Then people wanted GMT Master II , they disappeared from AD cases. Then Subs, Deep Seas, Seammaster, Explorer 2, Explorer 1, Milagauss, Skydweller. Now most Yatchmasters are gone from cases. Are the Yatchmaster 2 next? What was the real order and why?

IWC da Vinci , gst models which I own the perpetual calendar and the salmon dial slit second are some of the Best Buy’s on the market in complications, especially with the curt clause easy adjustments. A value of a watch isn't measure by how many complications it has, its value is dictated by the demand. If everyone in the world wants a Nautilus and it only has a chrono vs a grand complication that nobody wants, well, who is going to buy the grand complication? Its MSRP is just a price put out there by the manufacturer, doesn't mean that people will pay that amount. To take an undesirable model vs a desired model is an apples to oranges comparison.

Lol these dealers buy in at 15-20% of the retail price and resell at half price of the retail.. dress piece really should be avoided buying brand new from boutique. The moment u step out of the shop, it's immediately depreciated by 70%

Its kinda weird when you teach people not to follow the hype but wearing a rm 11-03 on your wrist. Anyway, very great options you have. I have my 5164A patek and purchased it before the hype. Now Im in thinking very hard because friend of mine ask me to swap 5164A with his 5205G grey dial and Daytona white ceramic.. value wise, its actually no brainer, but...

The problem for me specifically is that I do not like anything under 40/41mm which generally equates to newer watches. Newer bigger watches that have great value are never going to be from those big brands. Its only going to be JLC's, Zenith, Hublot and Ulysse Nardin. The problem with those is even buying at that great value, if ever sell it youre going to lose even more.

5980 $100k hahahaha just ridiculous. This watch is already ridiculous at list new to comparative models from other manufacturers Rolex/AP when new at release.
I bought one cheap over the counter in the store pre-owned in a trade. The wear on the band compared to any Rolex Sports models is crazy the Rolex bands are made so much better at retaining it’s tightness and quality. I was completely blown away, I’m sure u have seen plenty of what I’m talking about. So many of these watches these days are all about the hype u know better than anyone else. Perfect example the 5980 when that watch came out and I was fortunate enough to buy one nobody really knew what they were or that was a Patek on my wrist at the time thinking they only had watches on a straps lol unless you were in the business end it was way before Instagram. These were truly watches older generations wore like my Dad

What's happening to the Calatrava's these days? I got a sense they've flatlined on value appreciation, or maybe I'm not picking up on the right signals which is possible.
Had my eye on the classic 5196G 001 (white gold) for a couple of years now. Prices have been pretty flat but good ones in the EU have crept up by maybe 10%.

Rolex real sales data is very secretive , we know the Rolex price will exceed inflation in decades to come even though you may see so many Rolex on the table in secondary market.
Luxury Cactus not true many public publications list Rolex production at 1 million watches a year world wide there is more information out there just because you don’t know whatever you’re talking about started going to these shows in my early 20’s I’m in my 50s now so I’m gonna guess I know a little bit more about this than you. Of course it’s privately held company still just like all authorized dealers must buy whatever they get when they get their shipments but we know what it’s American stores deliver in US pretty much. How much old stock dials and other parts could be reproduced if you knew someone working there or had specific pieces that need something it’s definitely happened before seen tooo many head scratchers.😎
