  • Guide to upgrading the SSD in the HP Envy x360 13-ay0008na 2020 and other models using the 13-ay0000 chassis.
    This system takes an M.2 2280 SSD of the PCIe NVMe type as standard
    For this system I would upgrade to an M.2 2280 NVMe drive, such as the WD Blue SN550: amzn.to/3fFjGW9
    Tools used for this repair:
    Screwdriver Set: amzn.to/2zxS1pv
    Pry Tool: amzn.to/3btOw0t

    Things that I did with that laptop right away:
    - Update the bios (fans was kicking way too often before)
    - Replace the realtek wifi card by a Wifi 6 Intel
    - Repaste the cpu, the thermal paste they used is garbage sadly. The heatsink is very tiny, so a very good contact is essential!
    20°C cooler, stable and very fast wifi.

      I am a Dev, I run Linux on it (Fedora to be correct) and it works fine.

    obviously this gentleman knows his stuff and also it's obvious in the video that it is fine to so.. but if you are watching this video for guidance.
    Please disconnect the power and battery first before removing any component of your laptop.
    also it is good practice to press the power button for moment to let go of any residual power(while all sources of power is disconnected of course including usb).

    • @jasonthirded
      @jasonthirded 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @BrueComputing
      @BrueComputing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is ever thus! When I disconnect the battery I get comments telling me there is no need to disconnect the battery. When I don't I get comments telling me I should.
      Typically I do, just got the sequencing backwards when filming this one. If you have shutdown the system properly (not put it to sleep) then it SHOULD be safe to do the SSD install with the battery connected, but it is good practice to disconnect it if possible.

      The Ryzen APU is soldered to the mainboard, so the option for doing this would be to swap out the entire mainboard for one with a more powerful processor. Probably wouldn't be cost effective though as a Ryzen 4700U/16GB DDR4-3200 mainboard for one of these isn't going to be cheap.
