Pinetop and Johnny Johnson are legendary pianists! Wonderful men who forwarded much great music to us all. Memphis Slim went to Europe and others stayed in America to entertain and amaze audiences everywhere with recordings and brilliant performances! Thanks for posting this video. We've lost Pinetop and Johnson now but will always have them in spirit and recordings like this one!
Ninety-six year old "Pine Top Perkins" performance from 2009. I think that man has probably forgotten more than I know. Hat tip boogie woogie man Mitch Woods.
When you bring a 96 year old legend like Pinetop who lived and breathed the era of boogie woogie, you don't let em, wait, you let him do his thing . He young at heart. ❤️
Pinetop Perkins was the best. He passed not many years back at 97 yrs. old. He traveled everywhere and was a legendary piano player. I saw him a few years back at the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, AR. He's legendary.
Played with Top for several years on and off ( see picture ) Kindest Humblest man I've ever known. I am truly blessed and privileged to have known him and Willie
Just so wonderful to see this man playing like that. Music is something that stays in your heart and mind. Those of us who do play a bit, never stop. My mom was 92 when she passed away and she could still sit down and play music.
You Tube needs more good music like this. It's great to have others who can play what ever to join end play. If any could dance to this music could join end. Thanks. I live n Florida but good to hear good music. Thanks Again. I love that Boogie Woogie. It's GREAT
If I could play like Mitch I wouldn't get anything else done because it looks like so much FUN! I just love this stride piano and boogie woogie, as does MOST of America! Long may you run!
You can't tell them nothing at that age! What an absolute treat this video has been. I really love the way he is looking at the band all the time making sure everything is tight.
CityGov That man smoked cigarettes and ate Macdonalds till the day he died! Had the great pleasure of seeing him play a few times at the broken spoke just a few years prior to this.
This is great Mitch. I've loved Pinetop since I first heard his stuff on the radio in Indy back in the early 1990s. I lived in Indy for 14 years and spent a lot of time at the Slippery Noodle watching some of the best blues acts in the world. That made me pick up the bass guitar and then the Fender Strat with a Blues Deluxe amp. The blues are the best.
R.I.P Pinetop. You left us a treasured legacy of your magic. It cannot replace your existence in our lives but be trusted that your presence is etched in our hearts and souls for eternity.
Seeing a human being ROCKING at 96 years of age... I love this species! NEVER quit! I got a grandma age 96, sharp as a tack! I know a farmer, age 87, still gets out on his tractor in the summer heat! Loving life and what you do will delay death til YOU'RE ready.
In my 20's, I was asked to dance by a gentleman in his 70's. The band started with some Cumbia music, then changed to Boggie Woogie music. Holey Moley! I could hardly keep up with the man! He was tossing me all over the place! Had a line of women waiting to dance with him and he danced with them all! Never seen so many happy women!. What a gentleman........
WHAT CAN I SAY .. sitting in a motel room in Melbourne stuck here for work and then I find this ..WOW WOW WOW THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH !!!! Cheers from Olly
When he puts his cane down and hits the "shave and a haircut - two bits", you know things are about to go down! His delay and play style shows his expertise and love for music! RIP dear brother.
Music is about enjoyment. This piece gives me (almost) as much enjoyment to watch as it seems to give you all to play. A truly wonderful clip. Thank you ever so much for posting it. I can only watch in absolute awe
Wow, Mitch...just seeing this for the FIRST TIME. So sweet, so amazing, so timely. Love how he just moseyed out pre-introduction....and you handled it with your usual finesse. You made me fall in love with you, THEN Miss Hadda, and now Pinetop. What a gift you bring to ivory-lovers!
I have had this video on my favorites for a long time. I enjoy it more each time I watch it. Thank-you for posting. How talented you all are. Awesome!! :)
I stumbled on this while watching Little Richard, when I lived in California we went into S.F. one night with some friends and Mitch was sitting at the piano of a near empty bar. We drank and sang all night around that piano, he's a great guy. He was 'Mitch Woods and the Rocket 88's' then. Glad I found this. Tip o the hat Mitch.
Totally enjoyed this moment in time! Pinetop did everyone proud! Just wish that if someone was doing some sort of mix down, that they wouldn't have drowned out Pinetop with the volume of the guitar.
I would never have known about Ole Pinetop, Mitch, Henry, or Mark if I hadn't picked up a Blind Pig sampler on a whim. I gave that disc one spin and said to myself, now that's what I'm talking about.

My Grandmother used to bang out the hits until she passed at 94. God Bless!!
You can't tell them nothing at that age!
What an absolute treat this video has been. I really love the way he is looking at the band all the time making sure everything is tight.
I also noticed that, glad to see someone else made the same observation, I thought it was a sign of a true musician.

I saw pinetop at a club in Cleveland in about 1996 - celebrating R.L Burnside's birthday. What a show, two legends playing together.
Mr. Burnside was a homegrown bluesman. Loved him doing music for Soprano's .
