Mortal Kombat 1 is such a goofy game looking back on it, Kano has a 360 motion, Sonya had an infinite, and Reptile is not only a fusion of Scopion and Sub Zero, but is also damn near impossible to get to without mastering the AI; Love this game

Compared to MK2's AI, MK1's AI is pretty manageable, MK2's AI can get lost in a barrel full of acid and its parents left wondering why it hasn't come home for Christmas Dinner.

He trolled me by setting it on max difficulty before I came in the room and tried to get me to beat it. I threw the controller out of frustration (again, kid) and I was grounded for like a week after that and told I was never allowed to play his game system again

I was an MK head while other folks were mastering Street Fighter. I started with MK2 for a reason, though. The difference between the first game and the second game is so great that it might as well be different series. I enjoy the early games in the series mostly because of the story and lore. Once they got to MK4, everything went downhill. One day, me and Justin will have to play MK together; we'd be evenly matched, I think.

There were five chip versions of MK1 that I know of. Each one made the game harder and fixed exploits. I don't think Reptile came until the third chip.
I always picked Liu Kang because his fatality is super easy (360, no button) and it somehow qualifies as an uppercut for a stage fatality. This is extremely important in a game where there is barely any diversity in moves, looking cool isn't a thing, and you can't cheat to pick a boss.
My friend & I mowed so many yards every weekend to take the bus & play this cabinet at the ice rink or the movie theater depending on the day. Ppl would be quartered up 10+ deep to take on winner. We helped keep the MK team fed & the local bus service running lol
You can't slide sweep Shang Tsung in general because he's floating in the air. Also you almost had the Goro loop to easily defeat him. After knocking him to the ground immediately freeze him as he kips up. The punch chain is a CPU cheat. When it does it, the character stays in place unlike a player, who moves back.
I know a lot of people used to like the SEGA version more, bc of the blood code, but the SNES version looked closer to the arcade version, than the SEGA version did.
BTW, Justin, any chance that you could do a video of Primal Rage?? This was the game I used to play in the arcade whenever the Mortal Kombat arcade was backed up. It was one of my favorite fighting games of all-time, and I recently bought the PS1 version, which looks really close to the arcade version.
I remember when this came out in the arcade and you were like a god if you could beat an endurance match and there are 3 of them. People would stand in line just to attempt to beat them so you could get to Goro.
This was pretty much an updated version of Pit Fighter to cash in on Street Fighter 2's success. Imo, the Shaw Bros style kung fu atmosphere was perfect for MK; it really lost its way after this

For me, the Endurance matches were always the hardest part. In comparison, the fights with Goro and Shang Tsung were much easier.
