It always cracks me up that Shao's goddamn warhammer with a cinderblock on it somehow rather than realistically sending your body crumpling across the arena into the ground...it makes you do a Looney Tunes dizzy dance 😆 🤣
Beat him a ton in arcades when I was a teenager, his AI typically does 1 of 3 moves at mid range. You want to duck almost the entire match and react based on what he does. Fireball - duck it without blocking Ground dash - ducking block Air Dash - Uppercut then run in with your characters best dial-a-combo (air dash can only hit you while ducking if you block) Back to ducking and repeat. If he gets you to the corner you need to eat some damage to get out. Duck but don't block and uppercut him when you recover (followed by running in with dial-a-combo). You recover faster if you don't block his attacks in the corner.
From suffering against Young Geese to suffer against the nightmare UMK3 Shao Khan where from two hits is half HP and without glitches is almost hard to beat him.
Or dropkick teleport spear target this was the only challenge he put up so far that's pretty mild. He should put the babality shaokahn in mk9 challenge now THAT is damn near impossible.
@hatch450sx3 na Shao is super easy in MK9. Pick any teleport character, ideally one who's teleport isn't an attack (like Raiden) and just stay full-screen. Wait for the hammer throw, teleport, punish, go full-screen. Or, if you're confident in your blocking, you can walk right up to him and just continually cross-up punish him. He will always try to punish with his hammer swing upper, will miss, and while he will occasionally armor thru your attack and smash you, overall, if you're using a character you're familiar with, you will win easily. The counter-zoning method is way safer bc you don't risk forgetting to block his X-Ray.
Yeah, it's weird watching pro players struggle against a boss that's easily exploited and whose exploits were widely known in the 90s. To those who don't know, UMK3's AI is a joke when you realize you can literally make it do what you want it to do. It has canned responses to your inputs that it does 99% of the time, so you can make it walk into your counters pretty much at will.
@@mad0jester At a glance Jade seems worse because she could insta-aura and get a full combo where other characters would, at most, get a jump kick with no follow up. But her AI fell to the exact same teleport shenanigans every other CPU opponent fell to. She really wasn't any harder than any other character. The UMK3 AI is literally, "If player does X, counter with Y." You know it's going to do Y. So counter Y with Z. With Smoke, jump back with kick and immediately tap forward as fast as you can. If they go to throw a projectile, hit LK to teleport into harpoon for a full combo. Rinse & repeat. In the rare case they don't throw a projectile, don't teleport. Land and jump back again. Kahn will try to counter your projectile with his own no matter what. If you knock Kahn down once and then throw a spear/harpoon/ice ball as he stands up, he will never block if you time it right. All this was common knowledge back then, and there's many videos from old school players demonstrating this. It's not to knock anyone. I'd have to warm up to the rhythm before I'd be able to go a full arcade run again, so I don't blame people who don't even know the moves (especially since the inputs evolved drastically over the years so even if you do know modern MK inputs, it won't do you any good in the original trilogy.) I mean, even if you are used to play fight games, the speed and momentum of old arcade games are totally different. Sometimes you start playing like you would normally play your MK11 for example, and end up feeling like it goes 10 times faster and the timing is off.
With Robot Smoke, the back jk would make the cpu use a projectile more often than not, making an easy teleport punish, jk to throw. The jump kick and throw punish did as much damage as a regular combo and was super super easy. After match 3 or so, the cpu would input read you and destroy you if you fought it like you would a normal person. MK2 was similar in after a few wins, input reading everything you would do. So if you crouched down and let them get close, you could jump back, and it would make them jump at you. In turn, you could roundhouse or uppercut them out of the air.
Man... those are mostly kids who never grew up with the arcade games. I'm 42 and was 10 when the first game came out, and I've been playing ever since. They need a grizzled veteran to hand Shao Khan his butt back to him.

Duck, uppercut when he does upward knee. Spear on standing up animation. Combo. If he does normal shoulder charge, spear because he is likely to do it more than once. Then combo. Even if you take damage, if you land something once more than he does, you'll have more health and he'll die before you do. Do it twice. You win. Works on all towers.

Shao Kahn can easily be beaten in a few ways. This was one I used to do. But another is abusing teleport punch with Sektor or Smoke. And I believe every single character can Uppercut -> run -> Uppercut repeat him to death. This is what I did on the Genesis, and in other versions as well.

9:28 “so I heard Scorpion’s a tech here, so” then proceeds to highlight everyone but Scorpion. Then says “I’m getting used to the the d-pad” while playing on an arcade stick. Then says “ Let’s play some Tekken!!” This guy is so confused!!! 😂😂
Props for him for sticking it out I ain't going to lie though bro look too stressed on the sticks
Why would you lie? Such a dumb saying.
@@PayneWewton Whats the lie? Indeed he was rusty & stressed out as well. But he had an actual strategy, thats why he won.
Scorpion or smoke for the win every time. Just have to get him knocked down once. Once Kahn is on ground, run up to him smash LP a couple quick times then spear, uppercut, run up him, lp,lp,lp, spear, repeat.
How did you go to a gaming conference and find ppl who've never played a fighting game in their life? Those first few competitors were absolute garbage
The DONK sound was the best addition ever. Needs to be unlockable in the newer MK games.
havent played this in 25 years lol but from memory, UMK3 Shao Kahn was easy... MK2 Shao Kahn on the other hand... 😵
It's stuff like this that baffles me when people say MK9 Shao was the hardest Shao. Like I figured him out. But getting bodied looped in the corner is pain if you're not spear-cheesing.
I love how Justin and me had the same reaction to Tiger's age. I'm 37, Tiger you look FANTASTIC sir!
Why thank you! 🤪
I love these challenge videos, mah dude! Very fun to watch 🍻
