      Eric o has greater diagnostic skills then I think he even realizes. His techniques can be used in many different repair scenarios that don't include automobiles. He's a master at how he decides to troubleshoot his logic is excellent.

    • @jaredtate873
      @jaredtate873 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I agree. I started watching his video during COVID, I was looking for ways to set myself apart from others because I was scared of losing my job. Couple years later I’ve tripled my income and gotten recognized as an assist for the team. Eric o is a special dude, I’m greatful he’s taken the time to make so many videos

    • @JohnRodriguesPhotographer

      @@jaredtate873 for me I've always been a shade tree mechanic. Well until recently. I'm an older guy so with that age comes the day when you can't twist a wrench as well as you used to. I spent 30 plus years in IT primarily operations. I have a lot of troubleshooting experience with digital systems. And I've learned a lot just watching his troubleshooting technique. I'm also learned modern automotive terminology. Helped me out a lot with a minor warranty issue on my car. When they told me what they were going to do I was able to respond to them in their language which surprised them quite a bit. I also understood what they were doing. I also mentioned that several years back I forced a manufacturer to accept the return of a new vehicle under lemon law without the help of an attorney. Essentially I was telling him you got three cracks of fixing this problem and then you're going to give me another car.

    Dear Mr O, I hope that you and Mrs O may consider this suggestion. its been 3 years since SMA paid it forward to Marie's friend Amber. She has probably completed her schooling to be a nurse by now, and is out there caring for the sick. Many of us who follow your life from a distance consider that effort to be one of your finest hours, and to watch the unveiling video again still brings a tear. If you think that the moment is right, why not ask us, your fans and larger family, to chip in a buck or 2 to help get the young lady with stealership rust bucket on the road to her future life and career in an SMA approved reliable and safe rig. I hope that the O family understands how much you do for us, all 690 thousand of us, and nothing would make us happier than a little chance to give back. thanks again.

      Wish we knew which stealership. Then we could forward Erics video and they would say, hey didnt we screw a young girl over by selling her a 2010 very high mileage Taurus thats totally rotted out. We better undo that deal because the money we made aint gunna be worth getting flamed on social media.

    • @richardthomas1743
      @richardthomas1743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@ctbale1 And it may come to that. I think and hope that the stealership is going to be in big trouble because the car apparent has a New York safety inspection sticker that was issued by the stealership that sold her the car. I really hope that causes them to lose their inspection license. I think that a stealership should not be allowed to inspect their own vehicles. I think that Eric may have given the young lady the number to call and report them.. Many years ago I had a rusted out clunker come into the shop. The people had just bought the car and it had a brand new state inspection sticker on the windshield. The new owner was complaining that the car felt "loose" on the road.. As I went to pick the car up on my lift the seats started to go up but the body hesitated by about 2 inches.. The car was completely rotted out including the frame where the steering box was supposed to be attached. Steel brake lines were curled up and pinched off at 2 wheels and of course an array of other issues.. I called and asked that a motor vehicle inspector come to the shop. After they saw the condition of the car they scraped the sticker off from the windshield. The car left on the back of a flatbed truck. I told the DMV inspector that I could not let that car go. it was a danger to the driver and a danger to others on the road.. My family was some of the people sharing the highway with that wreck that was waiting for a place to happen. In good conscience I had to report it.

    It was very kind of you to assist the young lady Eric. I was not treated so nicely by a ccar salesman once. I was 18. Fortunately I had the guts to stand up for myself, and the dealership owner also listened to me. Turns out he had grief with the salesman that was dealing with me, & was one complaint to many. The salesman got the sack and I got my money back. I said nothing, though smallish town syndrome kicked in somehow and his behaviours became known to the other yards. As far as I know he never sold cars again. I dislike people who take advantage of others. I dislike even more people who take advantage of the vulnerable people, young people and elderly people!

    Eric O... Wins Man of the year for helping out that girl. I hope she gets the help she needs. Thank you for standing up for people getting ripped off. Starting to really hate the lick and stick it shops and car dealers. They know what they are doing. Let's hope they see reason, Eric, I have no doubt you will flat out crush them if you have to blast them on the internet.
    I live in PA. Bought a car that was rebuilt. Looked a million bucks. No outside or underside damage. Didn't know how bad it was until I had to change a burned out turn/marker light. (Got pulled over for it, warning). That was when I discovered that instead of replacing the entire radiator support and headlight brackets... They fiberglassed and bondo them back together. PA lemon law didn't apply, because it was 'rebuilt' and sold that way. So, the idiot dealer... Also special inspection station, slapped their own sticker on it. Well, I called the State Police DOT unit. They investigated and BAM... No more license for inspections and they lost their dealer license too. Me... All I asked for was for them to replace the part. They refused. I did it myself. It was a $50 part (aftermarket) and took a day for me to fix. If they went that far into the car to 'bondo' it back together, would it be that much more to undo 8 bolts to fix it? Cutting corners to save a buck. The amount of glass, resin and bondo on this part was disgusting and more than $50. They lost their business over $50.
    I don't have any sympathy for the car dealer.. Just like I don't have any sympathy for some @#$_&--((!!!?!:';!+;_--_$#$&-+(-& dealer who screwed over that girl. Nail him to the wall Eric!!

    Just want to say that i've been following you for the last year. I went back in your videos and started watching from the beginning where you were more shy on the screen. Amazing the progress. You deserve every little bit of your online success, alot of work behind it and i really appreciate everything you are teaching us. Not cutting corners and explaining the best you can. Alot of mechanics are keeping stuff for themselves but not you. It really helps me do stuff myself on my vehicules and save lots of money. Again, i am really thankful for what you do.

    I find the brake job videos to be the funniest. You can do brake jobs with your eyes closed and don’t have to think so you just go on little rants and funny sayings. It’s funny as hell.

    Absolutely awesome of you to give her the number and advice! My gf bought a Jeep without asking me to look at it… went down to the dealership (large one, not buy here pay here). Told me we’d be back with the state police. She had her money back in an hour and I got off my ass and went looking for one for her instead of putting it off and her going out and buying one randomly without me (I hate looking for used stuff).

Keep it up because you have taught me a lot and I appreciate it. Love the TaDa! With the Brakleen. It never gets old. Thanks for all your help and hope all the best for you and your family.

    Eric, the soft spot heart hidden by your shirt, is actually visible on your sleeve, some type of funky reflection, but the fact remains that a damsel in distress, has a friend @ South Main Auto, believe that he sees his own daughter through that customer. Little known fact, Eric was, in a former life, a formidable member of King Author's Knights of the Round Table. The internet is his modern day sword, truth is his shield.

    Hello Eric, first time viewer here. Rainman Ray and Watch Wes Work have mentioned you (in good terms before). I am a 70 yr old supposedly retired mechanic in Land Down Under. Your rust issues are something we don't generally have in Aussie Land. Agree with all your work but with one exception. Ray, Wes and yourself just push the pistons back in. Because I don't know how long it has been since the brake fluid has been changed (meaning amount of crud likely to be in piston bores), I put a line clamp on the flexible brake hose and attach a vacuum bleeder bottle (just to hold the fluid) and with its hose on the bleeder nipple open same bleeder nipple and then depress the pistons back into their bores. As you would be aware, that way any crud in the caliper goes out via the bleed screw instead of having the possibility of going back to the ABS valving. At the same time I can see three things; is there is any air in the line, are there are any "gooblies" in the fluid (meaning calipers really need to come apart to clean out the crud inside) and also see the colour of the brake fluid - the more discoloured it is, the older it is and the more it needs to be changed - I have 2 pressure bleeders, one used only for DOT3 and the other for DOT4 (I know - I am getting fussy). I am sure you are aware of this technique but am wondering why you and many workshops don't use the technique I mentioned. Only takes me slightly longer, maybe another 3-4 minutes per side, but I protect the ABS unit from possible "crud" incursion. You have a good name in the TH-cam community and I see where other YT creators have been thankful for your input into issues that have had them perplexed. Regards. Bob Hudson

    I've only watched a half dozen of your videos and I really don't give a rats when the lighting may not be correct. You have an actual job to do and you are providing me with free quality entertainment so I am very grateful for that and if you don't have a good camera angle or shitty lighting, I don't care and looking at the number of Subscribers you have they likely don't care either. Just keep the videos coming when you are able and *Thank You* for taking the massive amount of time to edit and upload what you do. 👍👍👍👍👍
    Your battle reminded me of my daughter's 2009 Nissan Micra K12. The rear slave cylinder decided to spew its guts up in a shopping mall carpark. Got a local shade tree guy to fix it and it took him over an hour to get the guilty hub off. Now this car had been service by the Nissan Stealership from new and *every* Service the brakes had been ticked off as checked. On the last Service they were told there was an intermittent noise in the rear (drum) brakes and the Service Manual had the ✔ beside Brakes Inspected. The shade tree guy brought the parts round and one of the shoes had been installed wrong at the factory and had worn down the shoe so the edge was razor sharp and there was untouched brake material on the opposite end of the razor part of the shoe. I know what virgin disc and shoes look like because I made them when I was younger and I know what it looked like straight out of the oven. Discs got sanded to thickness if necessary but shoes didn't. In 14 Services they clowns *never* checked the brakes and it took an hour to get the hub off because the shoes had worn the inside of the drum down about 3mm (1/8") and it was stuck behind the lip.
    What was surprising was I never heard any metal on metal noise during the times I drove it. And my daughter only heard it intermittently. So instead of a cheap shoe change she got hammered with a bill that was 10% of the car valuation instead of 3%. It is so hard to get a good mechanic but I have managed to find three so far on TH-cam. Eric, Ray, Wes and I bet there are a shitload more out there. If only I could find someone like you in my part of the world. Apologies for the long rant and *Thank You* for the videos.

    Hi Eric. When I was working in a Ford dealership in the early 1990's, we used to push a wheel stud into the drum brake assembly on Ford Taurus's to gain access to the brake adjuster. After removing the drum with the rust ridge, we would reinstall the wheel stud. I always enjoy your videos and show many of them to my students, take care.
