I am really glad they didn't punch out the body mount holes in the body they way they do on the beetle bodes. I always run hidden mounts. I am adding this one to my collection now.
I love this kit and many others , however in recent times tamiya PS paints have deteriorated to the point of falling off shells at the slightest bumps and rubbing off entirely at exposure to oil or fuel , tamiya don't cater to nitro racers , but vw buses are awesome .

Would it help to coat the body with Tamiya Semi-gloss clear Spray?

You don't "need" any to run the car with 540 power. They're fun to have, though.
Personally I'd use the body and wheels on a nice nitro chassis .
