  • This video shows the steps taken after the initial installation of the Monoprice 3D Maker Select V2 printer (product 13860). Specifically it shows how to get the wire guides secured and level the printbed, how to heat the extruder and install PLA filament, and then how to print your first print off the micro sd card. These videos were created for educators and were designed with the following learning objectives:
A-Tell how a 3D printer homes its axes, which is how the
printer determines its zero position in x, y, and z.
B-Identify the stop switches on the 3D printer
    C-Level the printbed
    D-Install PLA filament (the plastic)
E-Start a print job stored on the micro SD card
F-Decide if a print job needs to be restarted based on how the
first and second layers of plastic print
This video was undertaken as a volunteer effort by William J. Ashby, PhD of Sumo Robot League for Communities in Schools Augusta.
Sumo Robot League helps kids build their own international mini class sumo robot, code it, and compete. Sumo Robot League sells kits, trains coaches, and organizes tournaments including a national tournament held every year in Augusta, GA.

Thanks for the review. I'm glad I watched before I purchased. Seems like a big pain in the rear to get set up.

Thanks for all the comments. I made this video as a favor for a school so unfortunately I don't have access to do another video. I appreciate the comments and want to reiterate a few. Yes you do want the filament slightly smushed. When I slide a business card, I get this result by looking for some real drag on the card as it goes between the extruder and print bed. This is more than just feeling that its rubbing against both. If you are going for that subtler feeling of it touching both the extruder and print bed then you should use something thinner. Flavius brings up a good point about keeping the x-axis assembly (the part that goes up and down on the z-rods) square to the z-rods. You can get away with a little tweaking and being a little off, but will definitely have problems if you shift it so that its too far from being square. I've always just eye-balled this. I'll be adding a square to my 3D printer toolkit. Thanks, Flavius. Thanks to you all for the comments.

Actually you did wronng calibration, when u turned that screw rod from right side u basically angled the z axes so the head will print reclined in angle, that rod screws from z axes are first who need to be leveled, u can do that with any square measure tool u put near the right rod from z axe untill hit that square measurement(u place square under the rod that hold hot end) then u go near left screw rod and put ur level under the left rod who keep hot end and manually adjust the left screw rod untill it reach the square, then u start and level the bed. Because if u tilt 1 screw rod from z axe and the other one it stays a bit upper or down , entire y axe that hold hot end will be walk in angle. And second mistake is to use that thick card that have like 1.2 mm thickness to lvl head, if ur nozzle is 0.4 and u set to stay at the thickness of ur card leveler , is basically no adhesion from that 1.2 mm height when fillament drop down. Get a thinnner glossy paper for lvl.

This surface sticks too well. Set the level with paper in stead of a business card and heat the extruded up a little more and give a little more heat to the bed. We use these at work and they make great solid prints if you do it right.

just got my first one ever and the z axes trick worked perfect now i need to buy better filament ...im shure the filament is bad it keeps getting clogged up (probly a very old filament as the person i got it from had it setting around a long time had dust everywhere).

The extruder is too far off of the print bed. It needs to slightly smush or flatten the filament onto the print bed. Like others have said, use a post it note or piece of copy paper instead of a card.

I wish they would make the bed levelling process a bit easier... I am actually looking to purchase this Monoprice printer next month because it looks so well constructed, and for the price, you can't beat it.

If you want to do everything wrong when first using your Monoprice 3d printer watch this video!I feel like your video is a complete misrepresentation of how to set up your printer. The instructions clearly state that you need to go to the extruder setting and advance the filament, after the hot end is heated up, not force it through. Also leveling the bed with a piece a paper not business card. Also if you just go to quick setting and click preheat pla/abs it gets your printer up and running.
