- Addis Ababa to Afar Semera, Ethiopia. I began the most intense journey of my life to the Afar region of Ethiopia which is the hottest place on earth. This turned into an incredible adventure which unfortunately became quite dangerous towards the end. Get ready for a crazy 3 videos from my time here in Ethiopia as I head to the Danakil Depression.

The air conditioner to ben, '' you're my biggest fan''
GREATEST INVENTION EVER
th-cam.com/video/IhutbKVtJCY/w-d-xo.html
@@BackpackerBen I'm not a great fan of AC, even when temperatures hit 40c in Madrid. Gives me a cold and comsumes a lot of energy. Still I'm a great fan of your vlogs. Watch out Bald and Bankrupt!
I love this Afar content! I've spent several months there researching the geology while camping in the desert with the locals, and I can't wait to get back. It's such an amazing drive from Addis to Semera, the Afar definitely has a piece of my heart. It's truly a wild place!
If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from and how did you communicate with the locals?
Moreover, what was your experience like?
Watching this from an AC room feeling privileged. Hats off to the Ethiopians
never taking water or cold air for granted ever again
most of ethiopia are not hot,the capital adiss ababa no air condition needed because it is little bit cold city but this part of the country is very very hot, other cities have normal weather, ethiopia is huge country by land

Ben, I used to be extremely adventuresome, but life changed my focus. I thank you for your videos as it inspires me to get back out there! Have fun and thank you, once again.
Oh Ben you're baking! can't wait to see the next video. The end "oh dear indeed" 😷. Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏽💖
Most challenging place I’ve ever been
@@BackpackerBen oh wow, you'll always remember ethiopia then 😀 be safe!
Africa is awesome m8! Ethiopia one of my favs places! Food, people, culture? Lucy hotel hey! Do u know why many hotels in Ethiopia ( specialy the afar triangle) are named? Well, there is a very famous skeleton from an asthralopitecus, discovered in the 70’s in the afar triangle in Ethiopia. Huge discovery to track back who we are and where we come from. When archeologists discover her, they where listening to “ Lucy in the sky of diamonds “ by the Beatles. There fore the name. I had the honor of seeing lucy in a museum in Seattle some years ago! There u go! Nice vid m8
You guys have got an amazing level of endurance to hardship. Did you not consider flying to Semera? Thanks
Expensive! Plus we prefer a roadtrip 😎
damn that is hot. As a Canadian, I won't complain of the winter. Enjoyed your video! by the way, Tanzania (Arusha and Dar) do have traffic lights at major intersections.
I will also NEVER complain
Good to see you Ben. As always, amazing content. Rog.
🤝thanks man
Hello Dear Ben. Seems like you enjoy Afar even though it might be tough :). I recommend Dini Hotel in Sammare. Very high standard and good service. That's what I choose in my trip to Sammara!
Amazing vlog. ;D And I am ur new subscriber
Thanks 🤩
Hi Ben. Could you share name of company they fked up so hard at the beginning?

Loooool. Honestly a good decision

Those locals are incredible
YES

Noted ✅
41 degrees isn't that hot. It was the same temperature in Bagan in Myanmar sometimes even 43.
That’s horrible as well
Ben, after this travel in Ethiopia, you are going to get the master in patience. Keep on! 😂
I will keep it going 😅
Drinking game, drink everytime Ben says "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus" in his videos. 😅😂

Thanks for watching
Love how Ben is so real with his comments.
🤝
We hit a heat index of 50 degrees celcius one year, and me and my brother had to work on our roof, it was a do or die situation, because rain was coming and we needed to shingle our roof because our house caught on fire and we had to replace the whole roof, anyways I almost got a heat stroke, my nose started bleeding and wouldn't quit for two weeks, made me think it was the fiberglass in the insulation and shingles, because after we finished it went away, damn that was the hardest work I ever did in my life and I think it took a toll on me.
I once took the bus (national express i think) from Brighton to London, Cambridge, Liverpool, Edinburgh and finally to Glasgow. The bus broke down twice. Had to wait hours for replacement. The same thing happened when i took the bus to dover to go to paris. Shit happens everywhere (not only in Africa😅). That said, you're one though traveler to go through Ethiopia at this time. Would be glad to buy you a pint or two if you're in Addis.
Three of Ben's hair turned into gray during this video😂
honestly it was HELL HERE
Afar region in addition to its proxmity to the equator is the lowest elevation point on earth thats what makes it very hot....
Another interesting spot there is the salt mountains..
Yessssss and I went 🙋🏼♂️
Ethiopia 🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹 a blessed country 🙏
Agreed
Ben how people live here Jesus Christ. Praising Jesus everywhere you go Ben the Almighty blessings upon you ✝️✝️✝️

i am really enjoying your videos you're doing here in Ethiopia .... i have been in Afar a couple of times its super hot but there are nicer Hotels in Semera like Ruftan or Ardi.... you would have a nice and comfortable rest if you booked there
I stayed at ardi the second night in semera 🙋🏼♂️ GREAT AC!

41C??? Come to SoCal in the summer (Inland Empire) That's normal! Also, thank you for another amazing adventure!
Us english are not use to hot weather as we usually don't get over 30 and even then in the U.K that feels like its 45
Why you blame everything if you don't want too travel in Africa stay in UK I saw a lot of video it's boring
Saw a lot of videos and it’s boring...yet you still watch 🤪
Wow that was so cool!!! next time u went to semmera Cheak out Ardi hotel u will be amazed by there service lucy is an old place not for u bro ... semmera is the hottest n coolest city in dessert 🔥😎
I stayed there the second night 😁
You have more stamina than me.
where's the next day? 🤔
40 degrees C is pretty normal here in Romania during summer months, but this happens usually in the cities, where all the cement and asphalt absorb that heat.
That’s mad! Never knew that
@@BackpackerBen Totally, at the tarmac level there are periods where you can measure up to 55 degrees C. Now that's too much, you can't last for hours wondering the streets, it's exhausting. However, bear in mind that not all heats are equal. Major key is humidity. If it's low, you can take it fairly well, but if it's humid (75% +), like I believe it is where you are...it's a nightmare. Humidity is the key.
It's time to plaint trees 🌴🎄 Ethiopians
Wooo You’re crazy.... you guys 🔥 so you going cry ...😂😂😂. Good luck guys you will be okay 👌. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy watching your video. My cousin took the dream liner bus. Try it next time. I am sure that the only thing is more money .
Thanks for watching 😬
I want to visit this place . Thank you for sharing this . Where is the 2nd part?
Second is on my channel 👍
Thank you . I am so jealous with your travel experience in Ethiopia 🇪🇹. I am Ethiopian and I don't known half of what you know :(
Keep going . I enjoy your video .
Hi Bro.Afar is my families home. They are from Elidar.Glad to see you @home.
thank you!!! :)
42°c Oh my God ! I can't leaving this place
crazyyyy
The hottest temperature recorded on earth was in Pakistan 🇵🇰, at Jacobabad 57
Dude, you complain a lot and took the fun out of it. I know you are traveling on a budget but you get what you paid for. It's not fun to watch you moaning about a car and hotel. Respect for traveling to Afar. Hope you have a great time at the Danakil depression and ertale.
That was a $350 tour. Everything you seen there was included in the price. We were promised 2 AC cars and a hotel that was NICE. As you seen we didn’t get what we paid for lol. Hence why I can moan
@@BackpackerBen Then moan about it somewhere else :) Why should I spend 15 min of my life hearing about your car problem :)
I like most of your videos and you are a likable person but I was expecting better content on your trip to afar. See the below TH-camr version of a road trip to afar.
th-cam.com/video/9LiQJXoy9Bs/w-d-xo.html
time to get off the bus 🚌 & start walking 🚶🏻 🇪🇹
NOOOOOO CHANCE
Oh, and I'm in North East Kansas, not too far from Kansas City, and we had an English dude come here one year just to experience the heat, he was bicycling across America and he got on the local TV News here and said "Yep, it's extremely hot here, hard to deal with because of the humidity that's involved too".
oh please don't show the bathroom ....ah
I show it all 😎
I hope your skin is ok mate. Sun screen don't mean shit over there
mate i went through an entire bottle of 50+ in 3 days LOL
"...Oh god. Oh Jesus." 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha. I just came here to comment and ask if anyone has counted the number of times ben has said "Jesus"
Thanks for sharing your travels, love it
❤️💚❤️ stay well stay safe
Thanks you ❤️
I really enjoyed your video. Great channel. ⭐️💕
Greetings from Albania. 👋🏼🇦🇱
Albania! Wow! Love this thank you 🙏🏼
Oh Jesus what is that at the end? Now I feel you.
Rust 😟
Dude complaining 50% of all his videos. Its part of the adventure enjoy it man! or choose companies who offer better services.
Another 🐑? I paid $350 and basically got scammed. We paid for 2 AC cars and a 4 star hotel. Would you been annoyed? Or be a typical pushover?
@@BackpackerBen May be you hooked up to the wrong ones. There are registered tour agents who offer best and professional service with the money you already paid. Anyways good luck and enjoy your stay.
That was the most reviewed and recommended one here. So many bad ones. Had to go with this one and was still bad. Someone needs to start a legitimate one
Even most of the locals will not even drive in the mountains late at night
But after watching most of your Ethiopia videos it is nothing like i thought it would be
What is the state and federal government doing for these people? They are citizens and that must count for something.
Ben you now know that Ethiopia is not in the first world. We do the best of what is available
absolute legends, huge respect
The Afar people love their environment because that is where they were born.
Yesss
the breaking of the car was unfortunate, u have pass it away from the camera I think.
i`m loving Selam and her random peeks
Follow her TH-cam 😎
Me too ! Cute !
Ben, it looks like you are going to melt in Afar😂. You could have flown to Semera and save yoursel the pain of the road to Semera. As well, I think you cheaped out on the hotel. There are tons of better hotels in Semera. Up the star please:-) Looking forward to the rest of your time in Semera. At least they have a functioning traffic lights unlike Addis😂
That hotel was included on the tour 😩
Whos here from tiktok?
legend
I like salam she’s soo funny look at her face behind
Benpacker Ben Can You Come To Djibouti And Somaliland. Both Countries Are Beautiful And Have Also A Long Beautiful Beach Lines And Sea Called The "Gulf Of Aden
ON MY LIST :)
Yes, traveling by road in Africa is a big headache. Ethiopia is no different. The roads are atrocious. They invite tourists to visit the country without building infrastructures and allowing people to import reliable vehicles. Take it easy bro.
thanks man
Ben you must know Ethiopia really well.
Did you get a refund?
You're glowing, getting lots of vitamin D.
Maybe she's freezing her "ovaries off".
They gave us $20 back 😆

Hahahaha hope you will miss all of that and want to come back again. After all this kind of stuff is the one which makes it memorable of your strip otherwise it will be boring. Don’t rush because you are 7 years younger when you are in Ethiopia.
Wise words ;)
People live in poverty when they have all these natural wealth. I we get to use the solar energy to produce electricity in Afar!
We said this! Good idea
Why u angry it's happens sometimes and don't blame Africa 😕
