Who would win if in some alternate reality Vito and Michael were to go head to head? 🔥🥊

Vito and Michael Corleone, are both the personification of power, wealth and intelligence. 2 of the MOST iconic characters in film history, brilliantly played by 2 of the greatest actors of all time, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. These characters are the epitome of what having an extraordinary amount of power actually looks like 👑
But the question always comes up, who was a better don? Both excelled at gaining power and expanding their empire and sphere of influence. Both ended up learning how to pull the strings of power to their favor ⚖️
So, it really is a difficult question to answer subjectively, unless you have a clear bias towards either one, you certainly can make an argument for both of them from a first glance. That’s why in this video we will be extensively analysing Don Vito and Michael, comparing them through some key categories that by the end gives us a superior and more logical answer to this question, to who was the "Better" Godfather 💎
So who is Vito Corleone? Don Vito Corleone was the founder and the patriarch of the Corleone crime family. Vito came to America as an orphan and slowly clawed his way up to be one of the most powerful and revered individuals of his time and even beyond. Vito’s big break came after the “olive oil war”. Where he ruthlessly dethroned the previous boss of bosses, by cunningly getting his very own caporegimes Emilio Barzini and Frankie Five Angels to betray their don. The classic, “divide et impera”. Through his intelligence, wit and cunning he was able to reach the heights of power and wealth and pass down his legacy to his son. Vito was the epitome of what a powerful leader is, he is the representation of what and how men of extreme power are able to strive and pull the strings of influence. But what differentiated Vito from other powerful individuals, is that he had a very strict code of honour that he would never break, he set limits to how far he would go depending on the scenario. As Machiavelli would have put it, he was both feared and loved.
Who was Michael Corleone? The youngest son of the don, Michael Corleone had always tried to stay away from his fathers shadow and wanted nothing to do with the family business. Michael was very intelligent, he inherited most of Vito’s strengths, and with his education and military experience, he really was on par and some would argue, an even better don than his father. Michael started off as a very moral man, always looking down upon what his family was involved in, however, after the series of events we see in the films, Michael begins to understand his father’s philosophy, and begins to transform into becoming just as ruthless as Vito, sometimes even going past what Vito deemed to be too far. But as a Don, Michael almost made every right move possible, allowing him to carry the family and ensuring its survival. After conducting this analysis, and really trying to look at this not just from our own bias, but from the lens of individuals far more wise than us.
In the end we have finally come to a solid conclusion. A definitive answer that has never been truly answered with the depth we just went through.

Who Do YOU Think is the "REAL" Godfather? 🌹💭
Another Question for You....
If You were a "Mob Boss", Who would you currently be?
Would you be a don Vito or are you closer to Michael or even Sonny?
But what I'm even more curious about is seeing which of you are actually Fredo’s!
Let’s actually find out ⬇
bit.ly/MafiaDonQuiz
No question for me, it is Vito Corleone. He gave earned respect. This is why he had such loyalty. He was the one who mentored Michael into the business.
I shouldn't be spewing this out before watching the video, but in my own opinion Vito excelled at his conception of what an "old world" mafia boss should be. Family and friends oriented, listening to the little people in the neighborhood, having moral lines he won't cross. Michael, on the other hand, is new world. Cutthroat, somewhat cartel-like, anything for the sake of expanding his business and power even at the cost of family and friends. They're stark opposites to each other.
Excellent analysis
Salute Don Corleone
Michael never backstabbed or betrayed family or friends..
@@adrukova1407Uh, he had a prostitute in the family killed and treated like a piece of meat to ensnare the Senator,
“It’ll be as though she never existed.” Vito despised treating people like that even if they were at the bottom of the barrel, and he also hated the flesh trade.
@@cha5She wasn’t in the family, just a random hooker. Vito would not have done it. He couldn’t bring himself to have Carlo killed. He let Michael do it. Michael was better suited to be a don for the 50s and 60s. Can anyone imagine Vito having Fredo killed? Trained as a Marine, combat experienced, Michael was totally ruthless. Unlike his father, he was not a forgiving man. “Betrayal cannot be forgiven.”
@@cha5 For real. One of the reasons Vito disliked Solozzo was because he ran a prostitution ring.
It's Vito, because Michael had help by his dad, Vito had it to learn by try and error
Beautifly said.
Yes but Michael eventually evolved
no, Clemenza showed Vito the ropes.
@@joshtheegotist you are way wrong with that, im going to use your own example to show you, clemensa was the one that told him they needed to pay don fanuchio the money because thats how things works, thats not teaching, do you saw vito saying to Michael you need to do this/that because thats how things are?
Also, Vito literally helped every single person who was willing to kiss his hand and call him godfather, even the people who could barely offer anything in return. He does even more in the book. (He helps a poor woman avoid being evicted with her pet.) He sends his consigliere across the country to personally help Johnny Fontane, a washed-up singer who couldn't sing anymore. He takes in an orphan kid because he was friends with his son Santino. And he was never overly harsh with his family, no matter how unfit they were, which was arguably his biggest weakness. Vito wanted to become a powerful man so that the pezzonovantes (bigshots and mafiosos) couldn't push him around. Michael wanted to be an emperor and to have sons to carry on his royal lineage. This question is a no-brainer to me. Vito is the Godfather.
During Vito’s life in the mob he lost a son.
During Michael’s life in the mob he lost a brother, a wife and a daughter.
Michael had his brother murdered, drove his wife away and because of his lifestyle his Daughter Mary got caught in the mix and got killed. He didn’t lose anything in my opinion.
Vito was witty and compassionate. Michael was smart and vicious
Vito had to also be smart and vicious to create the empire.
I don’t think Vito would ever have his own brother killed
Fredo not only put Michael’s life at risk but also his wife, unborn child AND children’s life at risk… I would not have forgiven that either 🤷🏽♂️
yes, i think you're right, Michael are very brutal but not without his sense, most of close people that killed in his order is because they betrayed the family!
If he was convinced that the brother of blood was no longer a brother of heart ... then oh yeah - he would have eliminated the enemy.
He did what he had to do. You would’ve done it too if you saw the bigger picture.
And besides, In Part III it shows that it was a very hard thing to do and he suffers because of it.
Then he’s not as good. Morale senses it was terrible, a ruthless mob boss it was the tough and right move.
Me and mom had a conversation about who we thought was more ruthless between Vito and Michael. I agree that Michael was more ruthless than Vito because Michael killed within his own family, Vito did not. Vito held his family higher than power because he witnessed the decline of his family as a child. Thus once arriving in America, Vito made sure he furthered his family bloodline.
That's because nobody in Vito's family would betray him...whereas Michael's own brother neither loved nor respected nor feared him enough not to betray him....
Both of them were losers vito said to Michael he made no apology for taking care of his family when in fact the way he took care of his family got sonny killed and the way Michael took care of his children got his daughter killed
Both were losers the way vito took care of his family got sonny killed the way Michael took care of his family got his surviving brother murdered and his daughter killed not a good legacy to leave behind
ANSWER: Young man Vito Corleone.
Happy Birthday Tomorrow to Don Vito Corleone. Thanks for the video
Vito Corleone was born Dec. 7th. At the end of Godfather II, when you see the old family getting together (with Sonny still alive), Mike announces he signed up for the Military. Mike did this because the Japanese had just bombed Pearl Harbor. That was December 7th, 1941. While I won't use the derogatory term Sonny used to described the Japanese, he did say "the nerve of them. And on Pop's birthday too." Pop was Vito Corleone. And if you meant Happy Birthday to Marlon Brando, his birthday was earlier; April 3rd, 1924 to be exact. 😀
Vito. He knew how to keep peace with power while being fair. I give Mike a close second b/c he was a war time Don.❤
This is my favorite channel, down to the narrator’s voice. It’s kind of like a lighter version of Don Vito’s voice.
💯🌹
Huh, I think it's more of an inbetween version of Aldo's voice from the games, the inbetween of Andrew Pifko and Rick Pasqualone
The one thing Michael had in common with his father was integrity in the area of marriage. Neither one ever cheated. Even when Michael and Kay separated he stayed chaste.
Except by marrying a peasant girl with blackmail and getting her killed.
This is true but even in relationship to marriage, Vito never HIT his wife. It’s not becoming of a Don to lose his temper in that way, in my estimation.
Except Michael just married some peasant girl with threats to her father and got her killed with that. Not much loyalty on his side.
But Vito had to eliminate just 1 don in power to gain control
Michael had to do that when 5 Families were around, and Courtroom Drama and all that. Just have to keep that in mind as well
What a happy coincidence. Just watched The Godfather last night.
There are teachers, and there are students. Vito taught his son the basic. Michael took it a step further and cemented his fear up front.
The fact that Vito raised Michael to arguably be better than him is a great achievement. One that Michael could not match. Vito is the best.
This is the WrestleMania that we've all wanted, but never got xD
Yes a full break down of Machiovelli
Both excellent Godfathers for their generation, the old and the young, you can't compare them.
Indeed! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👌👌
Michael was fortunate to have the counseling of Vito. Vito learned everything by trial and error
I agree 100%. Vito was more analytical than he gets credit for, most things he learned through trial and error like you say, or watching others. It's all he had.
That’s true 👍🏻
Can't choose. Love them both.
Absolutely.
In this video we will finally answer this heavily contested question, a question that has and will continue to spark heated debates 🔥
This video is darker in lightning than godfather triology.
This match up is perfect and analysis of these two iconic dons.
It’s not about who is better because we learned of Vito towards the end of his life. His son Michael displayed a part of the younger version of his father when Vito. They did a excellent job displaying the genes for certain minds in who can understand patterns.
Spot On! I thought Vito was the true Godfather when I began watching this video. And it was for the reasons you said. Somehow Vito did what he had to do And kept his family together. Poor Michael had become a empty shell when they killed his first wife.
No doubt about Don Corleone.
2 different eras hard to compare based on that
I love em both ❤️

Its really hard to decide Don Vito or Micheal would be the better 'Godfather' as both of them shine in different era. Like Father Like son👏😉
Michael would make a better ruler or political leader. His worldview was more expansive than that of Vito!
Don Vito, no doubt!!!! #1
Definitely would love a full-fleshed out video on Machiavelli and his premise
Michael really could've used Vito's advice and guidance over the years.
They both are independently great in the course of their achievements and very different modus operandi. ❤
VITO. I loved the older Vito with Brando and the younger version with De Niro.
Micheal have the hardest Circumstances and the hardest challenges
From what I can see, most of the people who are choosing Vito over Michael are doing so based on personal feelings and likeability of the character.
Michael was far more cunning, ruthless and ambitious. He was thrown into the trenches out of nowhere, thrown to the lions and he adapted perfectly. He stayed at the top and took the empire to unimaginable heights.
Vito had more wisdom and built everything from scratch (even though Clemenza showed him the ropes). People loved him and he was a far better family man.
In terms of business however, Michael was an objectively better don than Vito.
Exactly!!! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👌👌
Vito outsmarted the enemies that Michael would inherit from the grave never forget that
What do you mean
@@corvus3692 Vito knew his enemies better than Mike ever could because of the years he had dealt with them thus him being able to instruct Mike on how to get them all even though he would already be dead
Sollozzo was correct
"Let's face it, with all due respect the Don was slipping. Ten years ago could I have gotten to him?"
Crucial mistakes:
Complacency - he wasn't properly guarded
It was a strategic mistake to refuse Sollozzo - Hagen was right
Sending Luca Brasi to pretend to be a turncoat wasn't going to fool anyone - his loyalty to Don Corleone was widely known. Michael wouldn't have made those mistakes
Vito wouldn't have made the mistake of marrying a Gringa like Kay Adams or killing his own brother. The two things that absolutely brought Michael down. Simply by mastering being both Loved and Feared, Vito was by far, the BETTER Don.
@@gatekeepercreative Michael wasn't brought down, though
@@DanBeech-ht7swBoth died at home in luxury, the difference was Don Vito was more loved. Don Vito was slipping,he should have told Sollazo he would think about it, much better than saying no outright. And Luca Brasi was very loyal to Don Vito,so that was another mistake. Having Fredo drive him was a mistake as well.
Does anyone think Vito used this as a way of getting rid of Luca? Luca was loyal but I think Vito was very wary of him and in that respect used Luca? Just a thought. Vito must have known Lucas story wouldn’t be believed.
I just finished listening to the audio book of the Godfather and the prequel the family Corleone. Both books have lots of great back story about Michael and Vito that aren’t in the movies. The main difference between the two is that Vito had to work with his sons and protect them as he rose to power while Michael was on his own running the family for most of his career. He only let Vincent have power when he was totally ready to retire
Amazing analysis!
Commentary and insight is top tier.
It depends on the personal priorities.
Under Vito, Family flourished.. Under Michael, business flourished.
Under Vito, family AND business flourished. Under Michael, family destroyed, business flourished to new heights.
@@user-wk8mw6to2g that's why I mentioned priorities... Michael cared more about building than his Family.
So in the game of opinions Michael is the better Don for folks who place more value in business than family.
@@EAGLESLIFEVLOG agreed. Michael took it to unprecedented heights. Can't ignore that.
Enzo The Baker was the most duplicitous man to ever come out of Sicily. he was the man behind the man behind the man. He wielded absolute power & no one suspected, except maybe Don Vito when he learned of Enzo's mysterious appearance at the hospital. urinating to disgrace your enemy is what might have given him away, he was the essence of old-school. he tipped off Michael to Hyman Roth's plan to kill him. the message was disguised on the birthday cake at the Havana party in an arcane Sicilian code.. Enzo was not there but Roth's inexplicable order to the waiter to show everyone the cake saved Michael.
Expand on this please
@@shayadayan3343 Expand? its just made-up bullshit like the movie, its fiction not reality. i think that Clemenza was really a fat ET from Venus & Michael;'s son left the blinds open so he could have his parents killed because they wouldn't let him have ice cream. Don Corleone was Luca Brasi's gay partner & Michael's wife was born a man.
???? Bizzare but intriguing
As much as I love Michael, I love Vito more & it is really tough to outshine your own father that established the foundation and built the family up, especially for Mike.
I dont think one is better than the other, I think they grew up in different times… Vito - he had to pave the way for his future family to survive/live. He refused to be like others around him and pretty much saved the community or at the very least was a saviour for them. Michael - had to do the same to some extent yes, but had the benefit of already being in a country where he grew up in and to some extent accepted. He was given privileges through his father’s sacrifice and had an example of how to move.
We don’t know enough about Vitos own father to know what example Vito had and how they lived as a family, only that he brokered no BS and told the local don to go F himself.
Both were great in my opinion.
No your rong

Michael was definitely more viscous and cunning, Vito was smarter in the sense of he could read people very well and could see trouble. They were both perfect for their time and years they were godfathers
Exactly!!! 👊👊✊✊👏👏
The problem with Fredo was that he was smart, but he was also weak. He was blinded by ambition in that he wanted what he hadn't earned. Instead of learning from his mentors in Las Vegas, he treated himself to entitlements like fooling around with waitresses who were supposed to be working. Therefore, he threw away the opportunity to prove himself. Michael did earn what he had by paying high prices like the deaths of Apollonia and his daughter. He proved he was smart enough to learn from his father and consult him often.

Everyone who took part in 'The Godfather' should be rated as the best actors of all time. Brilliant movie. Brilliant acting. Brilliant directing. Brilliant book. And Brilliant shooting and even the mafia in New York got on board?
Vito make friends and allies. Michael just killed anyone in he way, which is why he died alone and despised.
Michael would have defeated Vito. Michael would have taken it further then any sanity.
Agree, its Vito though did waiver between the two. Michael went to a very dark place in the end. He waited like a snake in the grass to kill Fredo, an act that would have horrified Vito. He became extremely dangerous to those around him. I'm not sure where Michael's loyalty lay, it didn't seem to be with his family like his father. All he had was power. I'd like to hear your take on Machiovelli.
Michael did everything Sonny wanted to do, but he did it in a more calculated way. Vito made the entire family and grew it to the powerful force it was before Michael took over. Michael had both his father and Sonny in him as they were both dons. Michael is the greater Don because he had everything.
The Godfather & Favorite Son
1. Vito was more a godfather than a businessman. Michael was more a businessman than a godfather.
2. Yes, Michael expanded the family business, but I don’t think he could’ve built the business from scratch like Vito. Certain life experiences at a young age forced one into a level of toughness and courage that became more innate in Vito.
Well, here's the issue. Could Vito succeed in Michael's position?
Thanks for the video ❤
Totally agree CM with Vito as the winner. Vito did start it all pretty much on his own in a pretty tough environment fraught with pitfalls. Michael had Vito to advise him...a huge and powerful advantage. Michael built upon what Vito initially established but he take some bigger losses. Even though Vito lost his son in a costly war, Michael did lose his family in many ways, something that would have been inconceivable to the don. Vito was much more in touch with everyone being seen as compassionate man, jovial and approachable. He was successful in achieving that very difficult balance of being loved and feared. Michael was feared not so much loved.
Please do a video on Niccolò Machiavelli
Vito made better decisions and was more patient. Michael later took the business to another level yet he was more paranoid about the people around him.
Can you blame him with all the Betrayals that he endured?!
@@UnexpectedWonder No I can`t blame him.
Vito built his empire during a time when all the other families were also starting from scratch, so there was little to no competition. Judging from no response for Fanucci. Vito knew at the end of his tenure that the other families were looking to take the Corleone territory, and Micheal was going to be tossed in the deep end when he took over, and he was going to sink or swim.
Absolutely! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👏
They're both are incomparable. I'll choose Vito because he built his organization brick by brick.
This one is tough...
Definitley agree Vito is the best and REAL Godfather.
Before I watch this video, I’m predicting a tie.

Vito, spreading power to build more of it.
This is by far one of your best videos. Brilliantly Detailed. Here’s How I would count it.
Michael: Intelligence, Ruthlessness, Machiavellian, Art Of War, Fear, Facing Difficulty.
Vito: Leadership, Love, Respect, Achievements, Reign, Vision.
And As a Tie Breaker, Family-Wealth Category Goes To Don Vito Corleone. As He Held Family Above All.
michael was better than vito
just as vincent was better than michael
but again had vito not prompted michael about the barzini meeting he might not have been able to see a trap there
vincent was not featured for long enough to be able to bear a comparision with the 2 dons before him
however vincent saved michael's life from joey zasa's helicopter attack
I agree 💯
Everything started with Vito, his ability to read everyone made him the true Godfather
Considering Vito taught Michael everything about being a don...Vito 100%. He built their empire from literally nothing..not even a green card.
Let me put it this way: if I had to face one of them, I'd go with Vito. Vito has clear lines he won't cross. Michael doesn't, and regularly does things Vito would be appalled by.
Also as the video points out, Vito would actually try to earn my respect. Michael would see me as a pawn.
I'd trust and respect Vito more than Michael, Michael is corporate in his thinking. To him I'm an asset,to Vito I would be considered someone valuable and a friend of the Family.
I give the edge to Vito as IMO he was loved and feared. While IMO Michael was feared. I also look at the way they both handled mistakes made by Fredo. Vito was shot 5 times and almost died while under Fredo's "protection" but there is no indication of any resentment by Vito against Fredo. Michael was betrayed by Fredo. However Fredo was duped by Roth and said he did not know Roth would try to kill Michael. Yet Michael could not put the betrayal behind him and forgive Fredo and eventually had him killed. That killing haunted Michael later in life. He would have been better off handling Fredo as Vito did.
Completely different situations.
Fredo was vitos son, whilst getting shot was due to incompetence.
Whilst fredo in regards to Michael's perspective went against his family not just once twice, the second time being a power play done because of jealousy which also almost ended in Michel being whacked.
And if Mike left him alive fredo would've tried again due to feeling 'owed'
Vito was the "godfather" whereas Michael became jaded by his power which ultimately corrupted him not only in business but in his personal life as well.
I’m waiting for the books to open up before I subscribe. 😂 J/k
I'm looking forward to the video comparing Don Tomassino and Michael Corleone. "Why were you so loved, and I so feared?"
A quote from the dark knight "you either die as a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villian." This quote is applicable to all the great characters (even Michael Corleone) except vito because his concious was hundred percent on right place. No matter what happened with him but he never went ruthless like Michael. If you have read the book you will realise that even small decisions taken by vito was so thoughtful he never got carried away be it friendship ot revenge
Perfect.
I for one would really enjoy a more in depth video on Machiavelli....
It's not really a debate. In legit business, startup artists often can't run and maintain the exploding size of their new business. Large corporate managers rarely could build the company they control.
In this fictional account, it appears they both could startup and maintain. So they are just different and primarily able to adapt to the current situation.
What is the name of the song playing in the background in this video 😊
I agree completely with you, Vito is and always will be the true Godfather🙂
Vito hung the moon and stars, Michael made it bigger, but didn't have the loyalty.
🤔🤔🤔TOUGH CHOICE...THEY BOTH ARE 👑's!!!...💪💯
For me its Vito. Vito started from scratch and became the Godfather. Michael, on the other hand, inherited Vito's massive empire and needed guidance from Vito himself to succeed in his early stage of becoming boss. You could even say that had Vito not advised Michael against going to the meeting with Barzini, Michael might have went and got killed
Depends. During peacetime I would say Vito by a huge margin. His diplomacy and levelheaded approach to business would be better. Now wartime is another story. Michael is ruthless and military trained. So he was adapt and fully capable of shedding blood to achieve victory.
Vito adaptability to war was show in the oil war
@@SaddonghusseinWhen they were very low level. Michael had all the other families against him. He faced challenges Vito could not have imagined. He adapted his family’s empire to the modern world. Michael lost a daughter, and Vito lost a son (Sonny).

@TheCultureMafia could you do a comparison video between Michael Corleone and Thomas Shelby please?
Yes!!! 😁😁😁👊👊✊✊👏👏👌👌
I want to you to write a book on the theme like how to operate business as well as life from the pov of a mafia.
Vito, he started from nothing, and grew to the top. He had no wise mentor to guide him, and he kept his moral guiding light, which is excessively difficult to do.
What’s the background music?
Vito 100%. The business engulfed Michael to the point where he became cold, distant, and withdrawn, yet he assimilated knowledge from his father with remarkable efficiency.
This reminds me a little of the life of Alexander the Great. Alexander surpassed his father by far, but would not have been able to accomplish what he did if it wasn't because of what his father built before him. I would have given Michael 8 / Vito 9. That is because I would have also made it a draw in achievements, just because Michael inherited the job while the empire was in crisis mode, and he managed to use this crisis to expand.
I believe the builder of the family is a better Don. The look on Michael's face when Vito says " And at that meeting you'll be assassinated." That to me was the turning point for Michael. Vito built the empire.
It’s Vito for me although I love Michael but I believe the difference between good leaders and great leaders is that great leaders can also create and mentor great leaders. Great Dons can also “create” and “school” great Dons which is what Vito did he made and shaped Michael into the Don he eventually became; of course it helps that Michael already possessed impressive CORE elements for Vito to work with. Yet and still Michael could not be what he became without his Father. They were both awesome!!
What was the movie with Kevin Costner that you keep showing clips
My guess is the Untouchables. As far as I remember, it's the only Mob movie Costner did.
Who is the narrator? Love his voice
