The "You wouldn't steal a car!!" ads actually led to more piracy happening, because people saw them and were like "wait... I can pirate content for free?"
I'd like to second the "don't mess with Disney IP" advice. A few years back a couple who had lost their 4 year old asked Disney if they could put Winnie the Pooh, her favourite character, on her tombstone, and they said NO. Plus their lobbying efforts are the reason copyright lasts as long as it does on an IP in the States. They don't mess around.
I’ve always been terrible at art but when I started making zines I enjoyed making them so much! They r punk and ur channel inspires me too keep making them!
I'm a collage/mixed media artist, so I have studied up a bit on fair use, etc. Your zine looks so cool and I love seeing this video! I appreciate you getting the word out to people. FYI, if you want to mess with Disney a little and get away with it- the original Mickey Mouse, who was called Steamboat Willie, is free to use now because his copyright expired this year. :)🐭
i know you’ve talked about different genres of zines before and have a video on perzines but maybe sometime you could do a video talking about and explaining all the zine genres that you know of? that would be helpful for me and probably others :)
Oh my god. I felt like you read my mind. I've been thinking of making a zine for a long time now, and just last night I was wishing that somebody (especially you) would make a video about copyright. Thank you so much.
I really enjoyed your video, and it provided me with the information I needed. Thank you for creating it, and for the companion zine - I plan to get it. I am new to zines and am currently brainstorming ideas for my first one. I am considering creating a perzine that will include stories about how I am the "black sheep" of my family. I have a question: if I refer to family members like my mom or dad as "Mom" or "Dad," is that a problem? Also, what about aunts or uncles? I have several, and although they are related, they are different from each other. If they read my zine (which is highly unlikely), they would know which family member I am talking about. These stories require mentioning family members by their relation to me, or the stories would not make sense. In other words, I cannot call my dad "Bill," but I could call an aunt "Aunt [fake name]." I will not be using my legal name in these zines, as I do not use it anywhere where it is not legally required. I have not decided whether to use my pen name or the name I use on TH-cam, but either way, only some people in my immediate circle would know who authored the zines. I can think of only one person who might know some of the stories, but they have never met any of my extended family.
Thanks for watching! And welcome to the zine community ✂️🫂 I’d say you’re fine to refer to your family. I talk about my parents in my zines all the time and they don’t even read my zines but even if they did I doubt they’d sue me for it. If you want to change names of family go for it!! Whatever helps you tell your story (which you are allowed to share) Like I said I’m no law expert I’m just giving general tips. I talk about my family a lot in my zines and literally no one bats an eye. Use your best judgement on that. If your family is potentially vindictive, I’d lean on the side of changing names and relations to you. Don’t overthink it! Your story is valid and you should tell it without fear. Have fun!! Your zine idea sounds great 👍🏽🖤 I know a lot of people who may read it will be able to relate
okay so... does this mean i can't shit on my former boss from my old job anymore...because damn that company was screwed up...and that's a huge impact since it's the fricken food industry ...sighh
I am making a zine where I recommend music so I am having the album covers in the zine. Would that be against copy right, and would it be best to like trace over it or try draw it myself to avoiud that?
If you think you’d be making tremendous profit off it or claim the images as your own then I’d avoid. But if you draw your own versions that’s totes fine!! You can probably even get away with using the actual album covers if you say “inspired by” the artists. But just do what you’re comfy with!! ☺️
Except when you make it in adobe. It's not yours 😆 I'm sorry, just joking (i'm making a zine about this). But... thank you very much for making this video!! It's very helpfull.
where. did. you. get. that. shirt?! need
I made it! It’s available in my shop in the description 🥰

Omgg no way 🤣

they have zero shame 🤦🏾♀️
Good thing Winnie the Pooh (classic non red shirt version) is Public Domain as of a year or so ago
i have probably 15 zines in the works right now so that shirt speaks to me on a spiritual level
one day we’ll finish the zines we set out to make…one day 😔🤙🏽
I’ve always been terrible at art but when I started making zines I enjoyed making them so much! They r punk and ur channel inspires me too keep making them!
Best thing I’ve heard all day!
Keep making those zines 😎🫵🏽

We’re making it out of jail with this one! 😅 That was really informative. Thanks for sharing 👍🏽

Of course! It’s in the works ;)
(editing just takes foreverrrrrr lol)
@@brattyxbre no rush at all! you are the best!!!
what is funny is the anti piracy ad got sued for piracy because the music in the ad was stolen🤦🏻♀️
Someone told me that and I couldn’t stop laughing 😭😭✋🏽
If you use Word for your text, you just need to do (c) and it turns it into the copyright symbol.
Awesome tip, thank you 🙏🏽
so so so excited to grab the zine and the shirt :D
wooo! can't wait to open the shop again april 5 (i'm folding zines as we speak!!)

This is SOOOOOOO helpful. I’ve made three zines now. REady for number 4. I love this!

What an excellent video! Thanks for all the info Bre. I can’t wait for your shop to open so I can order this zine. Have a great weekend.🤗🌸
Thank you for watching! It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you, I was glad to see your comment. Happy weekend to you, too 🥰♥️♥️
you're so real for this, i hugely appreciate your passion for sharing zines resources it is so useful and so legendary
Thank you so much for this!! Super helpful as I usually do digital zines :)
thank you for making this!!
okay so... does this mean i can't shit on my former boss from my old job anymore...because damn that company was screwed up...and that's a huge impact since it's the fricken food industry ...sighh
You can as long as you change the name of your boss (I have zines like that and no one really cared lol)
I am making a zine where I recommend music so I am having the album covers in the zine. Would that be against copy right, and would it be best to like trace over it or try draw it myself to avoiud that?
Same with button pins as well, i'm assuming i cant just directly take the image i'd have to majorly alter it
but I am assuming single lyrics of songs are fine

Damn, I remember that 2000s commercial.
2000s were weird, y'all.
Fantastic tshirt, and informative video!
Thank you kindly
I deliver algorithm food. 🤩
That commercial... the music in it was used without permission
Meaning they pirated for an anti-piracy ad
Hi i just commented on another video talking about zines with Canva. Maybe they shouldn’t
sell their zine if they have protections eeek
Maybe!
The nicolas cage obsession is so real
I’m not obsessed!!!! (she lied)
Will you be posting this copyright zine on your site so that we can purchase it?
It’s on there :)
thank you for making this!!
No problem 😉
