    Hi Gerald, great video. Thanks. I already own the godox transmitter and the flash unit for my g85, gonna buy a few more of the flashes for multi lighting setup. Just a quick note, generally recycle time ranges refer to the minimal power to full power recycle times. So 2.2 seconds will be if you use 1/1 power whereas fractions of a second for 1/128th power. Cheers

    I bought three of the Godox TT685o for wedding work. They all have an infuriating problem both with my Panasonic and Olympus bodies. When used on camera and direct the auto zoom does not correlate properly to the focal length set on the lens. If I zoom my lens out to 12mm these flashes go to 14mm. If I zoom to 14mm they go to 17mm. If I zoom to 17mm they go to 25mm. If I zoom to 25mm they go to 35mm and so on. If I use the flash like this then I get dark edges around my frame like a vignette. Infuriating! I hoped that a firmware update might fix this. There has been one so far, but it doesn't. I've conversed with other users on forums. Apparently the V860iio lithium ion powered model has the same fault. Unfortunately, Godox customer service is non existent so absolutely no joy contacting them! I don't know if the TT350o has the same problem. Beware if you are buying for on camera use!

    btw the V flashes with the lithium batteries can cycle about 0.5sec faster on full power.
    The number 1-2.2sec that Godox gives refers to the flash power selected, not the health of the batteries. For the V350, Godox gives 1-1.7sec recycle times.
    The deal breaker for the V flashes IMO is that down the road Godox may stop selling that specific replacement lithium battery, so you may end up with old, fatigued batteries.
    With the TT flash, you can always buy fresh NiMh batteries.

Sometimes it works great but most of the time the G9 disables the multi-shot option when you hookup the flash and are limited to just one shot at a time. This does not make sense and appears to be a bug with either the flashes or the camera. Not sure which.

    Hello Gerald! Thanks for the great vid! Do you still use this flash setup? I'm asking because, like you, I've been mixing Godox flashes for different brands (Nikon and Panasonic in my case), but I've had problems with Panasonic for a while now, especially once I try using the wireless transmitter part of the TT350 (or the XPro-O for that matter). The issue is that there is a noticeable shutter-delay once I enable the tansmitter function on the TT350 or plug in the Xpro-O on my Panasonic G81 (and GX81).
    I've found a Dpreview Forum thread, were many people report the same behaviour for Olympus Cameras (EM1 Mark 2) as well. It seems like there is some sort of communication issue between the Godox and M43 Gear, as isolating the bottom two pins of the flash gets rid of the delay (alas you lose TTL and High-Speed Sync)... www.dpreview.com/forums/post/61981028 (links to a post were it is demonstrated in Video)
    I think this is a fairly major issue, as freezing a subject in motion or "capturing the decisive moment" is downright impossible with this behaviour. I have not experienced this behviour with my Nikon yet (using either the TT685 or X1T-N as a transmitter). Could you try it again with maybe both your G9 and GH5, paying close attention to the shutter delay if wireless transmission is on? I'm really unsure about investing more into Godox gear, as this is a real deal killer for me, but if it was solved with more recent M43 cameras, I guess it would be ok.

    Hello Gerald! What a great tutorial. Right after watching this I got the flashes and shot an event but I ran into one problem. The playback of the images on G9 is so off, it's terrible. I shot an event last night with this setup, and when checking on camera playback, it seemed that I nailed the exposure only to find out they were about 5 stops underexposed once I transferred the pictures onto my computer. This is terrible! Very deceiving playback. I have my G9 monitor brightness set to A* (auto) and the have a constant preview ON, but I think the issue is in incorrect playback, rather than preview. Do you experience the same issue? Did you find out how to get accurate playback? It's driving me insane because I cannot find any answers on this matter anywhere. Thank you!

      Sorry to hear about your troubles. In my experience constant preview doesn't work well when a flash is attached and I thought it was turned off automatically. But that shouldn't have affected your playback. An underexposed picture should look underexposed when reviewing images. I would definitely test again and see if you can replicate the issue.

      So far they have told me to reset the camera to factory settings but that did not help. I've also been told that constant preview is not available when flash is attached (bummer). They did suggest a decent workaround though, which is to check in camera light meter, to know if the exposure is ok. Not ideal, but better than nothing. I also found out that I can view the histogram on the playback. It's very cumbersome, but decently effective. As far as the playback, I filed a claim. They told me that somebody will be contacting me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the clear info. However, I have a problem. I have the TT350o version which I was told was compatible with my new Lumix G95 mirrorless camera. BUT, I cannot get it to fire off camera using the wireless trigger! The flash is set in Slave mode (neither TTL or Manual work) on channel 1 in group A and my camera has wireless turned on and set to channel 1 and group A turned on. Nothing happens! Any ideas what could be wrong? Forgive my ignorance, but the camera should act as the Master and the flash set up near the subject should be the Slave, correct?

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. When using flash constant preview is disabled. It's kind of handy though. That way you can still see in dark environments since your flash is likely to lighten the dark scene. And it would be nearly impossible for the constant preview to accurately predict what your lights are going to do to the exposure.
      Good note. Thanks for the comment.

    • @GPadugan

      you need a transmitter. the flash itself will act as a transmitter, but you would need 2 flashes. one on the camera and one off. Or you buy a transmitter separately put that in the hotshoe and then you can have the flash off camera. the camera itself is not capable of transmitting a signal to the flash.

      If you have a moment to go to our channel and check out some of our videos, I shoot them with a G7 on my gimbal and a GH4 on my tripod. I also do portrait photography, head shots, fashion and glamour etc., and I’m really interested in the Sony A7Rii and the A7ii (due to budget) for my photography use...
      Can I get your general thoughts on if you think I’ll see a noticeable difference in my photography use? Thanks in advance!

      @geraldundone  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Adam! Thanks for saying that. That means a lot. Cheers! 😃👍
      Checked out your videos. They seem clean and well-sorted to me. No problems there. Keep it up.
      As for photography, it's hard to say anything outright, because often the gear is less important than the user, but I feel like I can tell the difference. As an owner of the G9 and the a7 III, I feel like I get better photos with the Sony. It's not huge, but there is more detail, better bokeh in some compositions, and it just feels a little richer. I feel like you might enjoy something similar between the G7 and the a7R II/a7 II. Full frame definitely has it's perks when it comes to photos.
      I'm not suggesting you can't get great photos on the G7, just that you might like the results a bit more on the Sony.
