@soundprovideos Trying to record vinyl sets connecting this to my pioneer djm-450 but still hearing external audio like conversations, fingers snapping etc. Even when input level lowered. Turned mic power off on tascam but still same issue. Any advice?
Tip. If you're recording a sequence of sounds you can hit recording by double pressing to recording your sound and then press record again to pause the recording. This way everything you recrd will be on one stem. If you press the Stop button that ends that recording completely and will start a new recording and time stamp when your record again. Hope that helps?
Holy Hallelujah!! I've got over an hour now trying to track down how the heck you adjust the input recording level on this thing. One after another in depth video but not one of the dang videos showed how to set that dang record input level. I did it a year or so ago but was trying to record my band the other day and all I got was a horrible distorted recorder even after putting the recorder in a separate room with the door closed. I know I recorded TONS of stuff with my 100 watt tube Marshall amp a year ago VERY loud when testing out pedals, pickups, etc. and had the input level on like zero. But the other day all I could find was the -db in the record menu which didn't do jack. You are a life saver my friend! Thanks so much 🤩
emach07, the User's Manual describes how to adjust the recording and playback levels; it is simply not that hard to find out how to do it, unless you are a "I don't read manuals" kind of person.
@@youtuuba Well when I have 20 things all plugged in while I'm in my basement all set up, turned on, and ready to go the last thing on my mind with what seemed like a straight forward simple recording device, is to turn everything down, off, or on standby and go back up stairs to read a dang manual. So I guess that puts me in the "I don't read manuals" kind of person category but thanks for the 1 year later lecture lmao
@@youtuuba 9 out of 10 I find an answer on YT videos within seconds for most things. So I was just a little irritated having it take so long for this device. And sure, if I could look back now and know that would have taken that long, I would have looked in the stinking manual. But thanks again for your nonconstructive criticism
Unless I missed it, this video does not address a common complaint about this DR-05X product. Namely, although is has a "MIC/EXT IN" jack, by "EXT IN" they don't mean "Line Level" external input. This is not addressed in the small, multi-language manual that comes with the product, and the extended/full manual on the TEAC website barely mentions it; brief mention is made that if recording from an external source that is NOT a microphone, the signal level might be high enough that the recording has clipping distortion even at the lowest recording level setting; their recommended solution is to reduce the level of the source signal, which is not always simple to do. A common solution is to purchase an external attenuator, or attenuator cable (Amazon sells several for about $20), having at least 20dB of attenuation, 40dB is possibly even better. Another solution is to use the "headphone" output of the signal source (rather than its "line out" jack), which should have a volume control that can be turned way down to achieve the same kind of attenuation.
starting off didn't bring me the language selection. it rathe says "file not found. make sys file. Are you sure?" which is not discussed in this video.
Hello, I used to have DR-05 for 10 years, then it went dead. So far I was satisfied with the product. The only downside was interferences with my mobile phone. Is this solved with X model?
Thank you! Mine doesn't have "manual" recording levels but I used "limiter" to help dial I the input volume.. I tried using Auto, and it just distorted all my audio.. thanks for th3 video!
Hey there. Great video on the Tascam DR-05 X. I need to know about overdubbing on this product. I need to quickly get to it because I am familiar with the old Tascam DR-05, but this new and awesome product has overdubbing. Can you give me more information about this in a video? Thanks.
I am doing it at the moment on the dr05x. Well it's from an old tape deck but I would imagine it's the same. I am using 2rca into stereo 3.5 and putting it into the mic port. Make sure the input levels are low as it will overload.
I would like to understand better how to delete a song or a file that you just don't want on there anymore. I noticed that some of the ones I have chosen I can delete and other ones I can't seem to figure out how to delete.
What is this device used for. Who uses this type of device. I only ask because I was gifted one by a gentleman who was clearing put his father's house who had just passed away. I know they are about £100+ in the uk. Same model as what you have here.
@@soundprovideos thanks for the info. I have one and had no idea what to do with it. I will probably sell it. Don't think I'll get much for it. But I'm sure it has some value to the correct person.
I'm a songwriter, and when I am working on a new song, I record with it, so that when I come back to it later, I can start right where I left off. Also, it can record a pretty decent demo for a band. Also, I have recorded sounds of nature for foley work.
So my understanding is this is just a track and the recording goes on a SD card. If i recorded rhythm guitar to a click track then played that while playing and recording say another rhythm guitar on another dr 05 couldnt i keep adding and playing like this for 10 tracks?
Does it have monitoring option, I'll record the guitar first then I'll send it to headphone and start to record vocal. Does monitoring and recording work at the same time?
Hi, I found you video very helpful. You said, if you wanted to listen to playback externally, just plug in your earphone. Can I do this using external speakers? Also, can I record by plugging the DR X 05 into a standard radio through the headphone port. Thanks for any feedback you give. Rob.

I bought the DR -05 some years ago for less than $50 and it came with the usb cord and SD card. This is $90. doesn't come with anything. Lucky to get it in a box.
Is it multichannel? Can you load a stereo music track onto it, for use as a guide/backing/accompaniment track, and then record a vocal track on it? How about multiple, non-destructive takes?

Not ONE of these DR-05x videos addresses the AutoTone/ToneSecs/ToneVol in the record menu. And the unit manual is fucking worthless as far a a lot of things go.
Note: The DR-05X SD card slot has been flipped 180deg since this video was made. The SD card should now be inserted contacts-down.

Can you charge rechargeable batteries with the Tascam?
I don't believe so, the USB power connection only powers the device
very informative, thanks.
Does it have an audio output to connect to a video camera?
Mine same model has a 3.5mm stereo output which can monitor the input.
Is this good for recording dj mixes off the cdjs 2000 n2?
How do you get rid of beep between recordings during playback

Yes, but it's just for electret mic - the battery voltage.

Does the microphone work in other devices? If so, check the input on the DR-05x.
Turn it on.
