I heard Chet Baker Sings at a friend's house many years ago, then found out that he was a phenomenal trumpet player after. I was moved by the deep melancholy in his singing. Upon reading about his life, it became clear that the sadness he wore on his sleeve whilst performing was all too genuine, making his performances so naked and poignant.
I saw him interviewed once and asked if he'd do an autobiography. He replied that he probably wouldn't, as he couldn't imagine anyone believing it.
RIP Chet, the Prince of Cool. 🎺

I really wish Chet sung more. I’m not a huge fan of the trumpet (he’s good, no doubt about that. It’s just in general, I don’t like trumpets). I feel like he should’ve played a different instrument, like the piano or the saxophone. But then again, I’m not really into jazz, so what do I know?

i watched the hauntin biopic born to be blue with the fab Ethan Hawke but also never knew much beyond this song.
So very heartbreaking and chilling, filled with idk what exactly but mesmerizing and also so effortless ❤.
RIP to the unique sounds of Mr. Chet Baker!!!

This is so true. Not only was he a great singer with a one-of-a-kind haunting voice, but his improvisation skills were insane as well. The ability to hone the skill of less is more to create melodies that stick with you is just something that I could never do in my experience with jazz so far.

Beautiful song. You can see he is missing a teeth (perhaps a blue eye). He was in a fight in Italy due to drugs. Even with this sad event he still performed a stellar performance. He could switch from what ever state he was in to an incredible performer in no time. RIP Chet

No...Chet lost that teeth when he was a kid. It’s difficult to notice because he rarely smile.
Then he was jailed in Italy for false drugs prescriptions.

Chasu you are absolutely right on both counts - the lights and the teeth. The lights burned a performer and often would actually blind a performer back in the days. Sadly, Chet sustained serious injuries to both teeth, mouth as a whole and I believe his ribs (unconfirmed). It showed some strength that he overcame this attack to return and bring us many more years of jazz master performances on disc and stage. Very sad ending in Amsterdam however in May 1988 - I believe a plaque marks the location of his home there.

    My funny valentine
    Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
    Your looks are laughable
    Unphotographable

Is your Figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little week?
When you open it to speak
    Are you smart?
But don't change your hair for me
Not if you care for me
    Stay little valentine stay

To Miss. Silvia Buratto. I think you right Miss. Silvia. Chet was a tormented person, that it the reason he was so talented and his voice so sad and sexy. I recommend to you and all the Chet's fans " Concierto de Aranjuez" with other great musician like Paul Desmond, Jim Hall, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd and Roland Hanna, it is a wonderful version of this magnificent piece.

@@aquarianfirehorse667 don’t disrespect people with drug issues, it’s a very serious and difficult illness that very little people overcome. And it was especially harder in the time Chet was alive because hard drugs didn’t have the stigma around them and understanding of them that they do now. So yes although it is unfortunate he died from drugs his talent was not “wasted” and drug addiction is a very difficult thing to overcome
