Eliminator is not only full of more techno music ideas but the songwriting was different as well. Interestingly enough as you listen to the playing you still hear Billy throw in all the little blues tricks. It's the album that made me want to play guitar for sure.
Same here. I was born in 79, and Eliminator is the first memory I have of someone playing the strings off a guitar. Those fills and licks have rolling around in my head for decades.
Nice interview Josh! Billy, you da man!!! I wonder if Billy remembers a harp player from a Memphis bar in 1986. I got off stage, went to the bar, got a beer, turned around and there was Billy. He said " sound pretty good on that harp boy" .... what a compliment. Billy told me he never heard anyone blow a harp like that. He asked me if I was with the band, and I said no they pissed me off. Billy told me I could play with his band any day of the week. I don't know if Billy remembers that, but it is a moment I will cherish forever. Thank you both. I really enjoyed the interview.
The majority of the Rock & Metal albums produced and recorded in the 80’s have always held up the test of time! So happy I got to live through this musical decade!
As a lover of Blues Rock and House/Techno, digging into Eliminator in 2022 is an actual Retrowave experience. Wish there was more disco/rock fusion 👏👏 If someone out there’s got an 808, I have a Les Paul lol
I've waited decades for BFG to do a real Blues album...he dances around it; gives us a little taste, but you know he has a REAL electric Blues album in him....
I wish that they could really happen Billy gibbons John fogerty kid Rock Eric Clapton I really wish those guys could come together and play and make a CD as those guys are awesome keep your health and keep playing music do you guys are also
John fogerty Billy givens kid Rock Eric Clapton it would be awesome if they all got together and then played the blues and made one hell of a CD that would be awesome
ZZ top Billy gibbons I would like to see John fogerty Eric Clapton and kid Rock all performing their songs and blues I would like to put them bunch of guys on one CD I think that would be the coolest thing ever if they could just make that happen I think that would be the awesomest thing ever
It's kinda funny that Mr Gibbons dances around the subject of drum machines/ samplers of the day but never uses the actual word(s). I can hear the Linn drum machine (California) and the trigger-able Simmons drum sampler/synth (from the UK) and the various keyboard synths of the time in the Eliminator recording. I do know that they actually used the Simmons setup live , back in the day, because I serviced their Simmons live kit (with no schematics, I might add), the very same day they played in Vancouver the same night, sometime back in the 80's(?). There was also some live sequencing or recording playback , maybe in Rough Boy and other tunes, if I remember correctly from watching the gig from side stage......hey, it's only three guys!..kinda like Won't Get fooled Again, by the Who live, where I saw Townshend adjusting the pitch on a Revox B-77, 2 track tape recorder, side stage with all the arpeggiated synth stuff (ARP 2600?) on it. How else could you pull that off live, accurately?
Billy is the total class act . No swearing needed by him to connect with his fans. God bless the Reveand Billy F Gibbons
I wanted a deeper talk about I Need You Tonight. That song is one of the best ever made. Beautiful guitar playing with that magical bass playing.

no mention of linden hudson????....do the research.
That's exactly what I thought.
If it wasn't for Linden Hudson there wouldn't be Eliminator
I suspect the lawyers get in the way. Their settlement might preclude it.
Great interview. Willy Gibbons is a solid guy.

Waiting for Linden Hudson to enter the chat.

John fogerty Billy givens kid Rock Eric Clapton it would be awesome if they all got together and then played the blues and made one hell of a CD that would be awesome
Why Is it I can’t hear the music?

Yeah, so? The songs are great dude, stop overthinking it. If you enjoy it why try finding reasons not to?
Sadly, it wasn't. Billy and a guy named Linden Hudson wrote most of the album with engineer Terry Manning also playing synths.
TEJAS IS THE BEST
Way Cool! 👍👍
