It's not computer precise. That is obvious because of the pressure differences and the alignment issues. It's clear that it is a specialized pen that is probably for calligraphy. Now saying that, the cursive is beautiful. You can tell it's hand written just from the "e" letters alone. But I wouldn't be mad at all if someone handwrote me a letter using this method. It's lovely.

I taught a girl a few years back. First time I saw her struggling in English class, I walked over to see how she was getting on, and saw her handwriting and was instantly taken aback. Never seen anything like it. And she was so casual about it - like it was no big thing. Page after page, the exact same perfect script. Easily readable, but totally elegant and unique. I checked back and there was never a "slack day" - it was as if a computer was printing reams of the exact same font. She might not have been top of English class but I'll always remember her handwriting, and I can't even remember who WAS top of English that year! XD
I have a friend just like that. Her handwriting was so beautiful. Not fancy but always perfect. Her father made signs, i bet he taught her how to write so beautifully. It just came natural to her. I do remember her name.

My Dad made me write, copy poems etc, but it didn't do me much good, being a boy. Boys seem to lack that care, that attention of detail, at this age. The only reason my own Dad had excellent handwriting was because he would get his hands smacked at school if he didn't practice hard. Later I became an artist, before I taught at a school, and suddenly all I ever wrote in was block capitals. People say I write incredibly neatly, and my writing is very readable, but it's just serving a purpose (to be clear) and it's "accurate" because of my artistic skill (as an ex-illustrator). But it's not unique, or beautiful, in any way. Incidentally, that girl who I talked about above, we used to collaborate. She loved my sketches that I'd leave lying around my desk, and one time she brought her book to me and asked me to draw her a soldier walking in the snow, because she'd written a poem about war (in her amazing handwriting). Afterwards it became a ritual, rather annoying at times, but her English book could have been put in a gallery, with our combined efforts. Great handwriting always impresses me. Every year I always look forward to finding out who those hidden unsung talents are out of the kids in the class, and I always sing them praises because of it.
That is the most perfect handwriting I have ever seen. It is a shame that schools here in the states no longer teach cursive. It is elegant and stylish. I wish we respected this a bit more.

People might find it hard to believe but my dad also had this kind of beautiful handwriting. He used to help me out with some school applications when I was young and all my friends and teachers used to be amazed by how good his handwriting was.
I learned cursive 30 years ago in first grade (Germany), and a year later a classmate let me borrow his coligraphy pen because I liked how beautiful it wrote. He came back after I'd used it a bit, and I told him how pretty the writing was thanks to the pen. He told me it wasn't the pen, I was the one who wrote that. That is one moment I still reflect upon today.
Your handwriting is literally art! 😍 It surprises me how in English-speaking countries people don’t write in cursive and kids don’t learn it at school. In France, we learn it from the beginning and the teachers make us use it more than non cursive. We all grow up using cursive more often or we just mix them up.
Education in the UK was hijacked by the Elites back in 1994. They managed to install an Education Minister who did the bidding of the private investors in the 1% who wanted to "buy" the Education system and turn the 90% of UK schools that were government (state) run and turn them into for profit "academies". Along with the takeover, came HUGE reform to the education system at large. The changes were compulsory, even for most private schools (not Elite schools - mind you), and were to be adopted immediately. Some independant private schools had 3 years allowance before they had to switch - the Elites didn't want to annoy the upper class by causing stress for their sons and daughters who were already starting their GCSE's. But the changes basically removed almost all creative endeavors (Art, poetry, music, handwriting etc) and instead of teaching towards "appreciation", they were forced to teach "regurgitation". Spelling and grammar mistakes were no longer punished in the standardized tests. In short, it was the "dis-education" of Britains kids. The last thing the Elite want, is a well informed, critical thinking, creative youth! My then English teacher wrote a letter to the Minister of Education warning him about the consequences of the changes, and asking who no practicing education representatives (such as himself) were consulted first? Well, he got his answer. And he retired exactly 3 years later and became a playwright, and started a dramatics group and toured Europe and the UK. He refused to go back to Education. Today in the UK, over 80% of schools in the North are "Academies". In the richer South, it's a little less around 65%. But within the next decade or two, it will be all. My Dad went to school in the 1930's and he had the most beautiful script, as did all students of that era (not many left alive though unfortunately). The kids took it as a half hour lesson every day, for four years, and if they made a mistake they got their hands thwacked. Of course, that was then, but today in the majority of state schools - the entire system is unconcerned about the kids ability and results come the end of their education - OTHER than hitting those magical targets to get more funding from the taxpayer to give a return to whichever multi millionaire elite "bought" the Academy. They even changed the entire grading system so now "D's" count as full passes, essentially giving the green light to kids to pass who, just 20 years ago, would have outright failed because they don't have the accepted standard of education. The dumbing down of Britain. And America. And Australia. Scandanavia is destroying us in Education, and the Elites have zero interest in adopting their amazing systems. It goes against their agenda.
As an asian child growing up in UK , my father would make me practice hand writing . After the regular school home work , extra math problems my dad provided . Then after that he would make me practice hand writing, my dad had beautiful handwriting , but nothing come close to yours . Yours is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Haha, same here. My dad once told me sister and me to each take a volume from the encyclopedia and copy a passage. When we were done, we had to give it to him to inspect. He looked at my sister's, who writes tiny, and said, "Good job, you may go play." Off she went. Then it was my turn. I write HUGE. He looked at it, said rewrite it smaller. So I did. And again he said to write it again smaller. I had to do that 3 times before he was satisfied and I could go play. Haha. And my father had neat handwriting too. And yes, this video is calligraphy, not cursive.
I have written in cursive for 40 years….now I’m wondering if I can learn to write like this! It’s beautiful. Being a lefty I’m already at a disadvantage but I may have to give this a try!
When our kids were in grades 1-5, I was shocked to see just how little they taught this. Last week one of our sons (in his mid 20s now) asked if I could teach him how to improve his cursive writing technique. I told him I’d be happy to whenever he wished. Mine is nowhere near as picture perfect as this… this was exquisitely written!
This happened longer in the past than today . By 6th grade for me we didnt need to use cursive anymore. Im 36 btw now. By 15 computers with aol online were common.. by 19-20 i got my first smart phone i didnt write much anymore. Writing hurts my hands now. And i lost all ability to do cursive because i forgot mostly.. Its just how things arr now today for a lot of people. I talk abiut this in person and there are tons of people like me i come accross
In a global world, it would be careless of one to lose the ability to write in cursive. I see my kids having to almost have someone translate cursive writing to them exactly because American public schools no longer care how one writes, not even in print. My son's 1st grade teacher answered my concern for my son's penmanship with these words "it's about what they write, not how they write it." I find that lazy. Both are equally important. What one writes won't matter if it can't be read.
Cursive writing teaches eye hand coordination, trains the eyes to read left to right, and teaches how to calm down the brain. When schools eliminated this subject for young children, dyslexia, poor reading skills, mental illness, and attention disorders skyrocketed for this demo. Hey, it's far better to place kids on psych drugs for the rest of their lives than to teach a passé skill.

Their brains cant calm down if they tried to and here we are with an unprecedented amount of anxiety disorders, suicide, tics (Tourette), you name it. Sad state. Please explain to me why cursive is needed in a world where nearly everyone types in phones and computers and will in the future rely entirely on voice recognition software to communicate. Yes, cursive can be beautiful to look at, but at a time when schools have already cut Art, Music and Civics classes to the bone, do they really need to budget for classes in cursive writing instead? The world has changed, like it or not, and having the ability to write a lovely handwritten Thank You note isn't on most young people's agenda. Particularly if they have to spend hours in the classroom learning it when they could be learning something that will prepare them for the real world.
This is major skill from relentless practice. I've been doing calligraphy for years and don't have anything near this type of control. Absolutely amazing.
I'm not sure but I think it may be one of those liquid lead pencils. Those pencils write a really dark black rather than the grey you usually see from pencil lead. It takes a little getting used to because it feels weird on the paper as you write. Another reason I think that is because it is crazy hard to get the thick and thin lines necessary to give the copperplate look like this.
@@desperatelyseekingrealnews It's still a pencil rather than a copperplate nib, which splays when you press to get wider lines. It's not obvious to me how to vary the line width so much with a pencil.
When I was a kid in the 50s and 60s we had a wonderful teacher who taught, 'Penmanship', he called it 'Copperplate', I love writing to this day, thank you Mr Badham.
Notice they're not writing fast - that shit takes time to make pretty. If he was taking a college professor's notes in class I doubt it would be this perfect.
Much like most skills, this is probably something one will have to practice and practice in order to get even close to this good. Like calligraphy. Also, the type of pen/pencil used will make a difference. Nice work.
In the 1930's my mother won an award for her penmanship. She kept it for years along with her practice books. The art form always fascinated me because it is so basic and yet so beautiful. When I was a substitute teacher in the early 2000's one thing I notice was that students handwriting was mostly illegible.
i think its mainly because the tech age basically made writing in your homework and assignments a thing of the past. now kids are printing their homeworks and sending it in via the internet. covid spread that process even faster. when i was growing up i learned standard writing like everyone else but when we learned cursive it was only for like 1 or 2 years and then once it was over it was a weird transition to going back to standard or keeping with cursive. and it ends up just being a jumbled mess as. I write in standard but my letters definitely connect at points like im still writing cursive for some letters and its a habit i never got rid of. my writing is horrible.....its the definition of chicken scratches. it looks like i was trying to write with my off hand
@@RavagHer I don't fully agree. My school put a lot of emphasis on writing in notebooks and my classmates handwriting was mediocre, at best. Other than that, it has quickly become worse due to the pandemic, as you implied.

It's bcz today ppl have regressed to being illiterate once again. In my time the only ones who couldn't write cursive script were those who were still learning their a,b,c's in kindy to grade 1. Students are not as smart today with their technology, as those who went to school decades ago. Also when I see on public transport what young ppl are watching on their mobile phones, they watch ridiculous cartoons, games & really silly things. That's far from educational. They are not watching anything useful. When I read online, I notice hardly anyone can spell anymore. I find spelling mistakes everywhere actually. Spelling was drilled into us, not now though. This is so sad.
It's called cursive. Everyone use to write that way. It looks nice but this person would have died of old age before finishing a book report. They quit teaching it so people can't understand how to read old documents.
Amazing this is done with just a pencil. My grandmother was a teacher and this reminded me of her writting. Every so often ill find something like a recipe with her handwritting in pencil just like this. Inspiried to practice myself ❤
This is exactly how I was taught to write when I was at junior school in the 1970’s. I recognised the tails on W and V, the formation of lower case B and the shape of S. My handwriting is so nice I have been asked to write the place name cards for several weddings. Sad that schools don’t teach these kind of skills anymore.
Yes it is sad, it’s an art form for people who can do it well (I can’t, mine is forced cursive).I still hand write in cursive though when I must hand write.
God damn. That’s beautiful writing. I had a friend, a guy, which made it more surprising, that wrote incredibly perfect also. He printed me a list of a few contacts and phone numbers I needed, but it was just as gorgeous as this is. Just goes to show that people will always stop and watch a “master” do their craft, doesn’t matter what the craft is.

This style of handwriting is still popular in Vietnam until now, especially in primary school. Many parents send their children to classes to practice writing this and then participate in many "Beautiful handwriting" contests organized every year. Me and some of my friends love this style so much so we usually write it although we are 22 😆😆😆
Lmao true, when i was a child, my mom sent me to a handwriting class. Unfortunately, i'm currently 21 and all i do is typing on PC and phones, so i forgot all the handwriting. Oh well, so much money poured into classes all went to waste 🤡, even college doesn't require me to handwrite anything. 🗿
@@sweetmjful Yes, we do use Roman letters in writing, our language is based on Latin letters after all. BUT we have some weird calligraphy style with Latin letters OR Chinese letters. In the past, we used Chinese characters i think but after the French occupation (of course, it's always the french, JK😂) we switched to Latin letters. P/S: i'm not 100% sure, i'm just your average dumbass student so take this as a grain of salt.
@@sweetmjful The Vietnamese's own script called Chu Nom, is no longer popular. It is only used in the art of calligraphy or you can see it in ancient temples and pagodas. Currently, Vietnamese people just use Latin letters in daily life.

One of my classmates had the most beautiful cursive writing (self-taught) and not truly a calligraphy font, but his own artistic approach to penmanship! He was also involved in drama classes and our teacher always asked him to create the school posters for the current play being performed at our High School. I will never forget his writing, as he signed my Senior Annual 50 years ago, last month! Gee, time really flies! 🤯
Though this is beautiful handwriting, and I'm impressed with the stroke achieved with just a pencil, I'm confused by the use of the word "cursive" - this is calligraphy style rather than traditional cursive, as evidenced by the stand-alone capital letters written in a traditional block style. When you actually write in cursive lettering, the capital letters are joined to the lowercase letters and look quite different. I've been told by some that they can't read them because they look so strange (think of the Q and X cursive, as an example). Also, there is no forward bump on letters like E, L, or H so the downward line joins seamlessly, that's a calligraphy style.

@@kingagha6140 a cursive writing master would always be slower than printed writing master since the length of each cursive letters is always longer than its printed counterpart and when writing cursively, there are stresses in the letters themselves that would require writer to slowdown to some extent. Let say that there exist a cursive writer and a printed writer who have reach full potential of writing, the printed one would always be faster since printed letters were made to be simple and practical.

It may seem to some educators like an unnecessary skill, but it’s creativity and art, which can be just as stimulating as technical courses in my mind. But thank you for this video. 🇬🇧. I went to school in the early 1960s. We were taught this from age 5, using a quill pen and an inkwell. It’s not difficult. It helps to be naturally artistic but anyone can do it. When I started work, in a Government Office, all our official files were written exactly like this.
I was taught a different type of cursive in Portugal, it´s hard to explain but it looks beautiful when someone really skilled does it. Lots of students back in the days had really pretty hand writing, those days are for the most part gone.

This is exactly how cursive was taught when I was in primary school. It is an art. It's too bad children today cannot read nor write in cursive. I made it a point to teach our 2 children. They hand write in cursive, thank you notes & Christmas cards.
They dont do it anymore? I remember doing it in the fourth grade being told to only write in cursive and well did for like one month. The 5th grade came around and nobody bothered doing it anymore.

In the US, you learned one of four different styles of cursive, depending on when you went to school. Spencerian, Palmer, Zaner-Bloser, or D'Nealian. The above is a calligraphy script, which was not taught in schools.
Quite different from American cursive, which we still had to learn and use when I was in school. But this is beautiful. Glad people are keeping cursive alive.

If there's a spine in the way like a wire spiral from typical notebooks. Small stuff like that. It just seems generally nice penmanship is elusive to a lefty. Not saying it can't happen as the most beautiful I've ever seen was a lefty but those are exceptions and not the rule....oh and the weird lefty word writing slants... lol. Yea, this video or gorgeous penmanship in general is a heavenly unicorn for me.

I love a great pen too. I visited a Mont Blanc store and the salesperson complimented me on my calligraphy skills. I don't know calligraphy. I was so flattered. Little did I know the pen was over 1K!

I followed this tutorial EXACTLY step by step, went out and spent $38 on the exact same professional grade mechanical pencil, got the premium grade carbon refills and upgraded the paper to Hammermill museum quality, acid free, 60 weight "feather" paper. I now have a beautiful, framed piece of expensive paper hanging on my stairwell that looks like a 5 year old wrote all over it.
Everyone starts somewhere! If you keep it up and put your 1,000th attempt next to your first, you’ll probably be shocked at your improvement! Maybe practice on less expensive materials in between, though. :)
Indeed. None of my 3 children know how to write in cursive. They all use print. And, their writing is barely legible in print. It's sad. In elementary, we called writing in cursive "penmanship". In 5th and 6th grade, we learned calligraphy. When my children watch me pen a letter or card, they think my writing is an art form. I suppose it would look that way to them. To me, it's just ink or lead on paper.
Part of it is having a stack of paper underneath the paper you are writing on if you want this result just having one sheet of paper on a hard surface would have different result , my father-in-law writes like this . You should see his collection of different inkwells and pens , he tried to teach me how to write like him but couldn't come close . Very nice penmanship by the way 👍

I can write cursive, but not like it is done here. So Beautifully done, a true art of Penmanship. Cursive was taught in school when I was growing up. It was just what everyone did. I'm almost 68.
Me to. I am 58. One thing I realize about the younger generation, is that they don't hold pens, or pencils like we do. Like in this video. I bet they couldn't read shorthand either.
I’m 50, was taught cursive in school, a time when everything was written this way. It isn’t taught in public schools any longer… Scary to think people will one day be incapable of reading our own Declaration of Independence, or any old document word-for-word, without a translator
Your handwriting is very lovely! I was taught the McClain method of handwriting, back in 1965. It is a little different to your style, but both are quite easy to learn. I used to teach ESL in South Korea. We were told to print, because English cursive writing was difficult for the children to read. So I taught the children cursive handwriting. Don’t know why TH-cam suggested this or why I even started watching it but once I did I couldn’t stop. I thought at first it was fake because it was so perfect, especially with the light and dark in each letter. To be able to control that pen like that is amazing.

They still teach us how to write cursive in elementary school. Now in high school we still use it for formality in essays and school plays. You can really see the beauty in the letters. It’s nice to know who to write in such form.

My Dad made me write, copy poems etc, but it didn't do me much good, being a boy. Boys seem to lack that care, that attention of detail, at this age. The only reason my own Dad had excellent handwriting was because he would get his hands smacked at school if he didn't practice hard.
Later I became an artist, before I taught at a school, and suddenly all I ever wrote in was block capitals. People say I write incredibly neatly, and my writing is very readable, but it's just serving a purpose (to be clear) and it's "accurate" because of my artistic skill (as an ex-illustrator). But it's not unique, or beautiful, in any way. Incidentally, that girl who I talked about above, we used to collaborate. She loved my sketches that I'd leave lying around my desk, and one time she brought her book to me and asked me to draw her a soldier walking in the snow, because she'd written a poem about war (in her amazing handwriting). Afterwards it became a ritual, rather annoying at times, but her English book could have been put in a gallery, with our combined efforts.
Great handwriting always impresses me. Every year I always look forward to finding out who those hidden unsung talents are out of the kids in the class, and I always sing them praises because of it.

I learned cursive 30 years ago in first grade (Germany), and a year later a classmate let me borrow his coligraphy pen because I liked how beautiful it wrote. He came back after I'd used it a bit, and I told him how pretty the writing was thanks to the pen. He told me it wasn't the pen, I was the one who wrote that. That is one moment I still reflect upon today.

In France, we learn it from the beginning and the teachers make us use it more than non cursive. We all grow up using cursive more often or we just mix them up.

Education in the UK was hijacked by the Elites back in 1994. They managed to install an Education Minister who did the bidding of the private investors in the 1% who wanted to "buy" the Education system and turn the 90% of UK schools that were government (state) run and turn them into for profit "academies". Along with the takeover, came HUGE reform to the education system at large. The changes were compulsory, even for most private schools (not Elite schools - mind you), and were to be adopted immediately. Some independant private schools had 3 years allowance before they had to switch - the Elites didn't want to annoy the upper class by causing stress for their sons and daughters who were already starting their GCSE's. But the changes basically removed almost all creative endeavors (Art, poetry, music, handwriting etc) and instead of teaching towards "appreciation", they were forced to teach "regurgitation". Spelling and grammar mistakes were no longer punished in the standardized tests. In short, it was the "dis-education" of Britains kids. The last thing the Elite want, is a well informed, critical thinking, creative youth!
My then English teacher wrote a letter to the Minister of Education warning him about the consequences of the changes, and asking who no practicing education representatives (such as himself) were consulted first? Well, he got his answer. And he retired exactly 3 years later and became a playwright, and started a dramatics group and toured Europe and the UK. He refused to go back to Education.
Today in the UK, over 80% of schools in the North are "Academies". In the richer South, it's a little less around 65%. But within the next decade or two, it will be all.
My Dad went to school in the 1930's and he had the most beautiful script, as did all students of that era (not many left alive though unfortunately). The kids took it as a half hour lesson every day, for four years, and if they made a mistake they got their hands thwacked. Of course, that was then, but today in the majority of state schools - the entire system is unconcerned about the kids ability and results come the end of their education - OTHER than hitting those magical targets to get more funding from the taxpayer to give a return to whichever multi millionaire elite "bought" the Academy. They even changed the entire grading system so now "D's" count as full passes, essentially giving the green light to kids to pass who, just 20 years ago, would have outright failed because they don't have the accepted standard of education.
The dumbing down of Britain. And America. And Australia.
Scandanavia is destroying us in Education, and the Elites have zero interest in adopting their amazing systems. It goes against their agenda.

As an asian child growing up in UK , my father would make me practice hand writing . After the regular school home work , extra math problems my dad provided . Then after that he would make me practice hand writing, my dad had beautiful handwriting , but nothing come close to yours . Yours is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Haha, same here. My dad once told me sister and me to each take a volume from the encyclopedia and copy a passage. When we were done, we had to give it to him to inspect. He looked at my sister's, who writes tiny, and said, "Good job, you may go play." Off she went. Then it was my turn. I write HUGE. He looked at it, said rewrite it smaller. So I did. And again he said to write it again smaller. I had to do that 3 times before he was satisfied and I could go play. Haha. And my father had neat handwriting too.

I have written in cursive for 40 years….now I’m wondering if I can learn to write like this! It’s beautiful. Being a lefty I’m already at a disadvantage but I may have to give this a try!
When our kids were in grades 1-5, I was shocked to see just how little they taught this. Last week one of our sons (in his mid 20s now) asked if I could teach him how to improve his cursive writing technique. I told him I’d be happy to whenever he wished. Mine is nowhere near as picture perfect as this… this was exquisitely written!
This happened longer in the past than today . By 6th grade for me we didnt need to use cursive anymore. Im 36 btw now. By 15 computers with aol online were common.. by 19-20 i got my first smart phone i didnt write much anymore. Writing hurts my hands now. And i lost all ability to do cursive because i forgot mostly.. Its just how things arr now today for a lot of people. I talk abiut this in person and there are tons of people like me i come accross
In a global world, it would be careless of one to lose the ability to write in cursive. I see my kids having to almost have someone translate cursive writing to them exactly because American public schools no longer care how one writes, not even in print. My son's 1st grade teacher answered my concern for my son's penmanship with these words "it's about what they write, not how they write it." I find that lazy. Both are equally important. What one writes won't matter if it can't be read.
Cursive writing teaches eye hand coordination, trains the eyes to read left to right, and teaches how to calm down the brain. When schools eliminated this subject for young children, dyslexia, poor reading skills, mental illness, and attention disorders skyrocketed for this demo. Hey, it's far better to place kids on psych drugs for the rest of their lives than to teach a passé skill.

Their brains cant calm down if they tried to and here we are with an unprecedented amount of anxiety disorders, suicide, tics (Tourette), you name it. Sad state. Very hard times for us parents of the first generation to have been born using the internet to navigate.
Please explain to me why cursive is needed in a world where nearly everyone types in phones and computers and will in the future rely entirely on voice recognition software to communicate. Yes, cursive can be beautiful to look at, but at a time when schools have already cut Art, Music and Civics classes to the bone, do they really need to budget for classes in cursive writing instead? The world has changed, like it or not, and having the ability to write a lovely handwritten Thank You note isn't on most young people's agenda. Particularly if they have to spend hours in the classroom learning it when they could be learning something that will prepare them for the real world.
This is major skill from relentless practice. I've been doing calligraphy for years and don't have anything near this type of control. Absolutely amazing.

@@theresasmith7230 In another comment, the creator said it's a Camlin Klick Pro 0.9mm mechanical pencil.
I'm not sure but I think it may be one of those liquid lead pencils. Those pencils write a really dark black rather than the grey you usually see from pencil lead. It takes a little getting used to because it feels weird on the paper as you write. Another reason I think that is because it is crazy hard to get the thick and thin lines necessary to give the copperplate look like this.

It's not obvious to me how to vary the line width so much with a pencil.
When I was a kid in the 50s and 60s we had a wonderful teacher who taught, 'Penmanship', he called it 'Copperplate', I love writing to this day, thank you Mr Badham.

In the 1930's my mother won an award for her penmanship. She kept it for years along with her practice books. The art form always fascinated me because it is so basic and yet so beautiful. When I was a substitute teacher in the early 2000's one thing I notice was that students handwriting was mostly illegible.
i think its mainly because the tech age basically made writing in your homework and assignments a thing of the past. now kids are printing their homeworks and sending it in via the internet. covid spread that process even faster. when i was growing up i learned standard writing like everyone else but when we learned cursive it was only for like 1 or 2 years and then once it was over it was a weird transition to going back to standard or keeping with cursive. and it ends up just being a jumbled mess as. I write in standard but my letters definitely connect at points like im still writing cursive for some letters and its a habit i never got rid of. my writing is horrible.....its the definition of chicken scratches. it looks like i was trying to write with my off hand

It's bcz today ppl have regressed to being illiterate once again. In my time the only ones who couldn't write cursive script were those who were still learning their a,b,c's in kindy to grade 1. Students are not as smart today with their technology, as those who went to school decades ago. Also when I see on public transport what young ppl are watching on their mobile phones, they watch ridiculous cartoons, games & really silly things. That's far from educational. They are not watching anything useful. When I read online, I notice hardly anyone can spell anymore. I find spelling mistakes everywhere actually. Spelling was drilled into us, not now though. This is so sad.

This is exactly how I was taught to write when I was at junior school in the 1970’s. I recognised the tails on W and V, the formation of lower case B and the shape of S.
My handwriting is so nice I have been asked to write the place name cards for several weddings.
Sad that schools don’t teach these kind of skills anymore.

He printed me a list of a few contacts and phone numbers I needed, but it was just as gorgeous as this is. This style of handwriting is still popular in Vietnam until now, especially in primary school. Many parents send their children to classes to practice writing this and then participate in many "Beautiful handwriting" contests organized every year. Me and some of my friends love this style so much so we usually write it although we are 22 😆😆😆

BUT we have some weird calligraphy style with Latin letters OR Chinese letters. In the past, we used Chinese characters i think but after the French occupation (of course, it's always the french, JK😂) we switched to Latin letters.
P/S: i'm not 100% sure, i'm just your average dumbass student so take this as a grain of salt.

One of my classmates had the most beautiful cursive writing (self-taught) and not truly a calligraphy font, but his own artistic approach to penmanship! He was also involved in drama classes and our teacher always asked him to create the school posters for the current play being performed at our High School. I will never forget his writing, as he signed my Senior Annual 50 years ago, last month! Gee, time really flies! 🤯

Though this is beautiful handwriting, and I'm impressed with the stroke achieved with just a pencil, I'm confused by the use of the word "cursive" - this is calligraphy style rather than traditional cursive, as evidenced by the stand-alone capital letters written in a traditional block style. When you actually write in cursive lettering, the capital letters are joined to the lowercase letters and look quite different. I've been told by some that they can't read them because they look so strange (think of the Q and X cursive, as an example). Also, there is no forward bump on letters like E, L, or H so the downward line joins seamlessly, that's a calligraphy style.

@@kingagha6140 a cursive writing master would always be slower than printed writing master since the length of each cursive letters is always longer than its printed counterpart and when writing cursively, there are stresses in the letters themselves that would require writer to slowdown to some extent. Let say that there exist a cursive writer and a printed writer who have reach full potential of writing, the printed one would always be faster since printed letters were made to be simple and practical.

I was taught a different type of cursive in Portugal, it´s hard to explain but it looks beautiful when someone really skilled does it. Lots of students back in the days had really pretty hand writing, those days are for the most part gone.

This is exactly how cursive was taught when I was in primary school. It is an art. It's too bad children today cannot read nor write in cursive. I made it a point to teach our 2 children. They hand write in cursive, thank you notes & Christmas cards.
They dont do it anymore? I remember doing it in the fourth grade being told to only write in cursive and well did for like one month. The 5th grade came around and nobody bothered doing it anymore.

In the US, you learned one of four different styles of cursive, depending on when you went to school. Spencerian, Palmer, Zaner-Bloser, or D'Nealian. The above is a calligraphy script, which was not taught in schools.
Quite different from American cursive, which we still had to learn and use when I was in school. But this is beautiful. Glad people are keeping cursive alive.

@@sparrowsparrow7505Yes. Definitely smear marks from pencils and pens. My homework used to look like my pen leaked all over it. Then the whole pushing the pen vs pulling the pen... If there's a spine in the way like a wire spiral from typical notebooks. Small stuff like that. It just seems generally nice penmanship is elusive to a lefty. Not saying it can't happen as the most beautiful I've ever seen was a lefty but those are exceptions and not the rule....oh and the weird lefty word writing slants... lol. Yea, this video or gorgeous penmanship in general is a heavenly unicorn for me.

I love a great pen too. I visited a Mont Blanc store and the salesperson complimented me on my calligraphy skills. I don't know calligraphy. I was so flattered. Little did I know the pen was over 1K!

I followed this tutorial EXACTLY step by step, went out and spent $38 on the exact same professional grade mechanical pencil, got the premium grade carbon refills and upgraded the paper to Hammermill museum quality, acid free, 60 weight "feather" paper.
I now have a beautiful, framed piece of expensive paper hanging on my stairwell that looks like a 5 year old wrote all over it.

Everyone starts somewhere! If you keep it up and put your 1,000th attempt next to your first, you’ll probably be shocked at your improvement! Maybe practice on less expensive materials in between, though. :)

Brings me back to elementary. By 2nd grade we knew how to write in cursive. Sadly many schools don’t require it anymore.
Indeed. None of my 3 children know how to write in cursive. They all use print. And, their writing is barely legible in print. It's sad.
In elementary, we called writing in cursive "penmanship". In 5th and 6th grade, we learned calligraphy. When my children watch me pen a letter or card, they think my writing is an art form. I suppose it would look that way to them. To me, it's just ink or lead on paper.

Part of it is having a stack of paper underneath the paper you are writing on if you want this result just having one sheet of paper on a hard surface would have different result , my father-in-law writes like this . You should see his collection of different inkwells and pens , he tried to teach me how to write like him but couldn't come close . Very nice penmanship by the way 👍

Calligraphy is not cursive writing. Calligraphy is decorative writing. Cursive is much more plain.

I’m 50, was taught cursive in school, a time when everything was written this way. It isn’t taught in public schools any longer… Scary to think people will one day be incapable of reading our own Declaration of Independence, or any old document word-for-word, without a translator

Your handwriting is very lovely! I was taught the McClain method of handwriting, back in 1965. It is a little different to your style, but both are quite easy to learn. I used to teach ESL in South Korea. We were told to print, because English cursive writing was difficult for the children to read. So I taught the children cursive handwriting. Don’t know why TH-cam suggested this or why I even started watching it but once I did I couldn’t stop. I thought at first it was fake because it was so perfect, especially with the light and dark in each letter. To be able to control that pen like that is amazing.

They still teach us how to write cursive in elementary school. Now in high school we still use it for formality in essays and school plays. You can really see the beauty in the letters. It’s nice to know who to write in such form.
Sadly and unfortunately in my country they don't teach it in schools anymore 😔 I just watched the video to my grandson and he's response was (what language is that and what does it say?) 😕
